…has Borderline Personality Disorder. It is through her own personal experiences and great struggles that she developed such a great desire to help others like herself, and the insight about how she might do so. This is how DBT came into being. Through real life, not some lab. The woman deserves our great respect, and if not thanks, at least gentleness. She is one of us.
I went through a DBT program years ago, and I have to admit that at the time I was too deeply depressed, traumatized, and unwilling to have it work for me. Only now am I putting some of the concepts to work in my recovery. Recovery has to be a choice, to a great extent, I believe.
As far as Marsha Linehan and her respect and empathy for her clients, there is no one who could have more. Since this video was posted, she publicly came forward and revealed that she, herself, had Borderline Persona
DBT changed my life. This is after many other forms of therapy were failures. For those who say DBT doesn't work, it does if you choose to look at it positively and allow it to work. At first, I too thought it was just another therapy that wasn't going to work. But, I am so glad I gave DBT a chance. I am much healthier today for doing so. Believe it can work, and it WILL. Thank you, Marsha!
Marsha Linehan is MY HERO. She makes a very scary disorder look less daunting through the use of humour. She seems to have a very deep understanding of people with Borderline Personality Disorder and I'd give my left arm to be treated by her. Don't disrespect her @ curious8185- it's not your place.
Marsha makes jokes about her clients and her audience laughs. It appears that neither Marsha nor her audience respect the clients. We typically don't make fun of those we respect.
Well if Dialectial Behavioral Therapy does not work "for you", then that is okay, but why dismiss it? And if clothes was you focus, then tune into a fashion show.

I must agree that Marsha is a little annoying; however she is a very brilliant woman! And DBT is a major form of therapy! and for some people the only form of therapy that will help them heal. If I had not found Dbt I would still be stuck in my eating disorder and reliving my chilhood abuse on a daily basis so i would like to say thank you to Marsha and screw you to all you haters!

FYI: DBT is the most amazing therapy I have found. I'm not medicated and my IQ is over 120. Linehan's book is my vade mecum and covered with highlighing. I am looking for a "Lite" version for teens ad adults with milder behavioral problems.

as far as my user ID comment i am sorry. i'm not perfect...neither are you. i was assuming expatriate was associated for you w/ DBT since that was what i was focused on at the moment very intently! i do feel though, that having anything w/ an 'ex' in it isn't exactly the most positive place you could be in. even if it is as you said 'just' a USER ID. it

ex, may i ask WHY you said this??? were you in one of her programs? you seem to be bitter. also i notice your user ID isn't exactly positive... what's up?
Hmm? My ID "isn't exactly positive"? You're making assumptions about the meaning of a YouTube ID. What do you get out of that?
I find that clients who benefit most from DBT are very low-functioning, heavily medicated, often on the lower end of the normal intelligence spectrum and unwilling or unable to engage in real therapeutic work. But behavior therapies are wonderful for those with limited cognitive abilities.

there is a DBT "lite" class as well, for those who are higher functioning & more able to be present mentally and 'get' this DBT-thing w/ much practice...if they are WILLING participants in their own minds, selves. it is truly for those who DESIRE change in their lives. it isn't something you can make anyone do and be successful at. that won't work.

I benefited very much from DBT and I graduated top in my class and was not heavily medicated in treatment for my eating disorder. I feel that it is okay for you to have your point of view as to what helps or in this case does not help you, However I do find that your comment could be very insulting to someone like me who is niether low functioning, heavily medicated or at the end of the "normal" intelligence spectrum. just my thoughts! dont mean to create an argument.
Marsha Linehan is brilliant. She found a way to treat the patients that no one else has been able to help in the history of mental health care. Not only has the mental health care community lauded her efforts, many are using the therapy for many other conditions. She is cutting edge.

Hey Marsha how many times you going to change your clothes during this video? I hate that you made DBT. Everybody thinks it's a cure all and it's not

Ugh. Marsha Linehan is the most vile creature in mental health care. DBT is not therapy. This woman needs some time in the quiet room.

Apparently, the "real therapeutic work" doesn't succeed where the despised behavior therapy does. The Matrix has you.
