Johnny Funches was a Great singer ! But.... Yall aint heard nothin until you've heard Marvin Juniors, Soulful Grunts and, Groans, "Sorry to The One I Love. The Dells background harmony on this cut is unbelievable , Yall just have to hear it,
I feel like the person who wrote, "I wish I had a time machine to go back." I feel the same way! I was aroun 9 or 10 when this song was out. My family loved this music and, I love it as well!
Excellent tune! The original lead singer, Johnny Funches does this one. He had a very distinctive "nasal" voice well suited to 50's doo wop ballads. The best 50's Dells songs are the ones he sings lead on. Its a shame he did not live long enough to take the stage with the group at the rock hall of fame awards. He left the group in 61(before the big hits) to provide steady income for his family (he was married and had kids before the other guys)He worked as a foreman at a steel mill.
Thanks for your info on Johnny Funches. I always wondered who this singer was. Great voice, and I agree with you that the best Dells songs featured him, like "Why Do You Have To Go."
I LOVE THIS SONG! Been lookin for this song on You Tube. What you posted is the alternate version. Im looking for the original version. The one on the original LP "Oh What A Nite" is slighty differnt. I appreciate you posting this song.
