  • @dickieshitts there is no pay off this is "satire" of comedy... just more douchey mocking like everything now a days.

  • Comment removed

  • basically a wannabe woody allen

  • Fred's gone on record saying this character is inspired largely by Marc Maron with a little David Cross.

  • I love that character.

  • I love this character

  • Where's the funny part?

  • @erule92 I like Fred, but I hate this bit.

  • @notatinklefan

How the hell can you like Armisen and not like his signature character Nic Fehn!? That's like being a Clint Eastwood fan and not liking Josie Wales.

  • YES! The reason why I even searched Fred on YouTube was because I just watched the newest Nicholas Fehn bit and I remembered how much I love Fred Armisen! Fantastic.

  • It would be hard to have a conversation with Nicholas Fehn...

  • Oh my gosh, he IS a genius!

  • mi scusi!

  • He's doing his character Nicholas Fehn that he plays on SNL. At least that's what I think. =]

He's soo talented! Fred rocks! <3

  • David Cross does a lot of commentating on newspaper articles during his standup. I wonder of Fred is doing this as a spoof of Cross. It wouldn't surprise me, since Fred's drumming alter ego "Jens Hannemann" is a parody of all the superdrummers in the world.

Does anyone know for sure? By the way, great video post!

  • thank you so much for this! Armison is great!

  • Fred Armisen doesn't look the least bit Japanese.

  • Mort Sahl

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I had the pleasure of attending this show and I laughed so hard, well, actually, you can probably here me. Im the really annoying guy.

  • genius!

  • the thing about this clip is..look not every household in america can..take mick jagger for example, where do you think he...suppose i gave everyone in this room a penny

  • yeah nicolas fehn!!!!!!!!!! fred is so cool

  • This is still way better than his similar Nicholas Fehn character on SNL. I wish he could get back to this version of the bit.

  • he must be parodying someone, the character is based on someone...

  • i think it just makes fun of people who feel so strongly about something but really have no idea what they're talking about. It reminds me of a bunch of kids who always talk about politics in my college class

  • LOL Exactly. He really makes the idiots of today stick out like a sore thumb. Whenever I hear one of my buddies talking about politics, I just think of this and laugh because they have no idea what's right and wrong; or real, for that matter.

  • isn;t this a Mort Sahl parody?

  • I just saw this character on SNL and remembered I'd seen him do it as stand-up. And I notice that I've already commented. And that my comment made no sense. What I meant to write was: I think it's just supposed to be some silly self-deprecation. Like, he's going to dazzle us with improv and deep thoughts on the articles, and he has absolutely nothing to say. So he's pretending to be this great comedian but he sucks. Like most comedians. LOL

  • MI SCUSI

  • I LOVE this character. I wonder if Fred was inspired to do this character by a comedian who bombed who was just like Nicholas Fehn?

  • nicholas fehn is a character he plays on snl on weekend update

  • is this david cross years ago when he still had hair?

  • no his names fred armisen. he's a SNL comedian. this is a character called Nicholas Fehn

  • I think it's just supposed to be some silly self-deprecation. Like, he's going to dazzle us with improv and deep thoughts on the articles, and he has absolutely nothing to say. So he's pretty to be this great comedian but he sucks. It's cute.

  • Fred did this bit on Weekend Update earlier this season. He put on a yellow wig for it. It was pretty hilarious.

  • I've never really got into Armisen, but this is actually pretty funny.

  • jeez, he boggles the mind.

  • I'm not sure if it's a shot at other comedians or not. My first impression was just that he was poking fun at that archetypal character (often seen on college campuses) who expresses a lot of emotion about particular goings-on in the news but can't actually articulate a single original thought about it.

  • Cross made fun of this kind of stuff too. There are hundreds of these dumbass comedians.

  • He's awesome.

  • Is he making fun of David Cross' routine or is this how Fred usually does his?

  • I kind think it's a shot at Cross too. I know Lenny Bruce would have newspaper clippings onstage, but it was done well.

Overall I think it's just a general shot at "super informed" political comedians.

  • It also might be a shot at Janeane Garofalo. Fred and her dated for a brief time a few years back, and she's (obviously) very political.

  • I don't think it is, I agree with the comments that say it's a shot at people(not comedians necessarily) with a lot of opinions who don't know what they're talking about. But, if this is a shot at David Cross, this would make me sad, since I think they have mutual friends and more important because David Cross is great.
