  • Ho-lee-shit. That's amazing for 100 grand. I guess the one downside is it probably doesn't have a basement, but for 100g's who cares.

  • especially I don't like the struts : they seem to be everywhere on the frame, even when not needed.

still it is only a matter of taste

  • Massive.

Not a fan … some wood seems useless to me, I don't respond to proportions… but then it's only a matter of taste.

  • AMAZING, you are so blessed.

  • Lost Cost my butt. That is currently $155,521.65 U.S. dollars. That might be low cost if you are rich and privileged. I am tired of this idea that people can buy land and build a home for a low cost, when in fact this is out of the majorities grasp. Low cost would be a max of one years income.

  • @TheManFromAlaska You can. You'll be living in a pre-made shed from lowes though.

  • @thatbastardson Better than living on the street or in a ice box car, in fact those pre-made sheds can be insulated with expanding foam and with little modding can look nice.

  • @brickulater Oh I was serious. They have shed deals on slickdeals all the time.

  • @thatbastardson

    Haha. Good one.

  • Adorable.

  • This makes the millionaires who buy large, expensive homes wish they built one like this themselves. :)

I LOVE the rustic architecture. :D

  • that is a darn beautiful house

  • The ultimate story of how two naive people take forever (7 years) to amass $15,000 to end up building an ugly 2100 sf shack, while simultaneously getting 35 acres for nothing. (would cost 18 million where I live for the land). The inside is nice looking, but everything else is such a weird combination and cramped, and the wood is a bit wonky looking. Worse it's an eye sore from the outside looking like an old barn. I can't argue with the acreage as that's amazing. Overall still a huge value

  • there is such elegance in this home's simplicity!

  • @HiJAway, it's amazing how people with no building knowledge zero in on the homes beautiful assets. And that part does look good, but it's riddled with other hidden problems.... I'm not knocking it's worth however since that land is a great deal. Of course I don't know what land goes for in that area......

  • Thank you for stating exactly how long it took to plan! I'm guessing those 7 years included both planning and building, right?

  • Building a home out of shipping containers would be low cost, no wood to use except for front & back decks. Shipping containers can be cut & modified to have a-lot of natural light come in, solar panels can go on the roof of the structure, a gravel roof could be made to take in rain water & filtered to provide water for the houses uses. A big home like that being built out of shipping containers is economical, efficient & has a unique look than looking at that. Also, electric can be at night.

  • @wow85 Too bad shipping containers are ugly as hell and require all sorts of materials to make them seem habitable, negating the cost savings.

Fine for cargo. Shit for humans.

  • @rmcdaniel423 Actually there was a shipping container featured on HGTV network & there is a youtube clip of it. You can make them livable inside, I seen all they do is make a cement frame in the shape of the bottom of the shipping container for it to sit on. So unless u know what ur talking about, don't go replying to me running your fucking mouth thinking ur a "Mr. Know it all" b/c if u seen how homes from shipping containers are put together & built, you can do sheet walls inside if u wanted

  • @wow85 Look at a Video called "Container house" it is in my playlist of wahoo which i just made. It is shipping container complex, strong, economical & efficient, they can withstand hurricanes. If u don't like the look, they can be dressed up to look like the front of a modern apartment complex to appeal to the area. The video I am suggesting u look at how a shipping container home in australia.

  • the outside lacks character but the inside is great

  • some of those beams look mighty cracked (0.38)

  • hahaha!! Low cost? h t t p wdeska.wordpress com/opis-szopy-waldemara-deski/ That is low cost - about £5000.

  • 98 thousand is fuckin loads!!! thats still massively expensive!!

  • @moekanz How much do houses usually cost over there? 98k gbp is roughly $160k And thats a pretty affordable house for us here in the States (depending on the part of the country of course).

  • @kurumako actually for a house like this in my part of the UK it's very cheap indeed. In the desiraable areas of London the house alone without all that land would cost £500k to £1m+ garanteed and anywhere else in England I'd say about £350k. If you include the value of the land in it, well that's another case!

  • Awesome - you guys have gotta be proud of that!

  • wooww this house is beautiful!!

  • if 110k+ #s is low cost for you...need I say more?

  • great job! its gorgeous!

  • not low cost or eco friendly or even that unique..peg barns are quite common and this is a peg barn.

  • Yeah but they forgot to mention the £100,000 ' bung ' they had to give to the Planning Officer to actually get him to give them the Planning Permission to do it . . haha !!

Leastways ,thats what its like here in the part of the UK where I live. .

Bloody Planners look for any slightest thing to STOP people building, however nice the proposal is. .

No wonder the UK is so bloody short of housing. .. . . (200,000 homes shortfall every year).

  • I'd definitely paint it white or something.

  • since when is 98k affordable??!?

  • It will ONLY cost a few hundred diamonds and you soul...THAT'S ALL.. ._.

  • £10,000 for 35 acres!! hmmm iv just been looking at a plot of 12 acres for £120,000, where is this cheap land? iv also been looking at Scandinavian homes and i can build a seven bedroom with three bathroom, two living areas, dinning room, kitchen, utility room for £60,000

  • £ > $ and i still find 100k pretty expencive

  • upstair is a hall, which looks like 8 meters high, needs to much energy to get it warm, you could make a roof between easily, and upstair is atic for storage.

  • Very nice!

  • super cool! i would love to do this. i have a few questions though;

    1) how long did it take to complete?

    2) did you have to use on any outside sources like contractors or plumbers?

    3) how are you liking it and how long have you been there?

  • 98500 pounds is about R1.2 million Rand here in South Africa - you can build the same sized home or buy one made of brick and mortar for that price. With a swimming pool probably!

  • If anybody knows where I can buy 35 acres of woodland for ten grand sterling please PM me

  • @comoradh

    woodlands.co.uk

  • @dourakigia, now for a way to pull all that dirt to the U.S. ;-)

  • wow that place is nice

  • How did yall even manage to build the home your selves???

  • 35 acre wooded for 10 grand???!!! Where the F is THAT?

  • @bluesintheblood converted its more like 22k 25k but still good price

  • @keensweep still where the hell did they find that for even that price...non existent here

  • @bluesintheblood

    woodlands.co.uk

  • So where's the woodland?

  • NOPE, Not Low Cost at ALL.

  • @2000everett4 :

    well, for its size ...

  • @2000everett4 Right!, Their total spend is about $175,000 USD

  • @bvensko chop and cut the wood ur self buddy.

  • ...love the Natural look of the house...Awesome!...

  • holy shit .. my house is just as big and it coste one millions US dollar .. fuuuu.. i'm icelandic btw lol

  • @Bjarmi92 Be glad you are not Norwegian lol. Iceland is cheap.

  • @Bjarmi92

    Sure

  • 35 acres of land for about $16k USD?? That's cheap but the house is so not. You can buy homes here for $75k and some for even less. Land however is expensive. 35 acres in my area will run you about 100-200k the greedy bastards.

  • @yesiamanalien most of that is likely to be greenbelt and not permitted for building, which is largely why it took 7 *years* to get permission and build it

  • I have worked out the exchange rate, and this house is $168,000.00 USD as of December 2011. All things considered, it is cheap. In the Chicago area, you get a 2 bed room and 1.5 bath for that price in a town house that is about 30 years old, or a crappy 3 bedroom and 1 bath house

  • It's nice but not low cost.

  • LOW COST? To whom? That house is big enough for three families!

  • @terryliciareed low cost since it is a big house. n it is specially designed according to their taste. If u hire an architect and builder, the price will make u go rob a bank.

  • low cost my ass

  • beautiful home!

  • 98,500 gbp... ymm

  • self build house is real housing feeling.this is no more house it is real home.very great.wish you a lot of luck in your new home

  • Nice Barn, English!

  • What a cool house! Thanks for sharing it.

  • Absolutely beautiful. The American dream come true!

  • @sunbird77 that's just what Oak does as it dries. It doesn't affect the structural integrity of the house.

  • the best and cheapest home is a monolithic concrete dome

  • £98,500 in 2010 to build a home and calling it low cost is equivalent to Bill Gate saying his home is a bargain. LOL.

  • @sok8888 Amen to that comment.

  • Low-Cost Bugatti

    :D :D ;D

  • This is a crock of shit.

  • I LOVE IT!!!!

  • actual low-cost for a decent home is about £4000 (4 grand).

also this isn't at all sustainable, oaks?! those take a looong time to mature and can live for hundreds to thousands of years. people need to face facts collectively, we've used way way over the amount of mature trees we'd actually have needed to build all required houses and buildings, so there isn't any excuse using them anymore. plenty of places need renovated & are empty, and the rest can be made from salvage and recycled material

  • nice build but the definition of low cost seems to be missed here somewhere.

  • i wouldn't call that near low cost either!

    - that kind of building reminds me of boat building. it's like a boat upside down, on walls. from inside i mean, and traditional boat styles of construction.

  • Nice ! But... NOT 'low cost' from my point of view.

  • i dont like it

  • JOKE

  • very classy looking, nice job!

  • I clicked on this because the title says LOW- COST! I would never spend that much money on a SELF-BUILT HOUSE!! People are so affluent these day that they would call over £100,000 "low-cost"?!? Ridiculous. Keep looking... there are ways to get even more house for much less!

  • Very nice spread guys:)

  • This is SO "Better Homes & Gardens!" Unbelievable the price! I wish I had've saved back like 10 yrs ago and I would've actually been owning instead of renting by now. Pitiful, I know.

  • @recyclecongress im pretty sure they spent allot more than 98,500 pound finishing the entire thing. Plus the 10 grand for the lot, im sure they eventually payed a "normal price" for it all.

    Looks really great though.

  • Nice house but no way would I have waited 10 years for the plans to get approved. I would have submitted over and over and over again or looked elsewhere.

  • Very nice craftsmanship and beautiful.....

  • Not low cost. Pretty though, it was obviously well done.

  • I love it! Absolutely stunning! I love the low ceilings and the open airy feel! But no kids room? I mean I guess no kids, but what about when you want to have a family? I guess you just build on..........
