Elvis made the fried peanut butter, BACON and banana sandwich famous because he like to eat them. In Memphis one day, one of his buddies told him about a place in Las Vegas that served foot-long versions of the sandwich. Elvis loaded his whole gang aboard his private jet plane and flew to Las Vegas -- where the restaurant's owner personally delivered a bunch of the sandwiches to runway. Elvis never got off the plane. They got the sandwiches and flew back to Memphis.
I hav4e had a penut butter and banana sandwitch not too long ago. I am wondering, what kind of taste this have when it is fried (mine wasnt fried) but does it make the bread a lil sweeter or what..? I would try it and see what it would taste lik but if i dont like it my mom would flip if i threw it away. I mean i think i might like it but i am not so sure if i would like it. Thanks in advanced :)
Good job! FYI: I fast forwarded through the impersonations. I was looking for a recipe not comedy, but I TOTALLY think you have a great attitude! :) Thanks
Kerry I like how inventive some of your recipes are. I personally really enjoy Macaroni Cheese but sometimes I get a little bored of it, even though it is really easy to make.
I'm wondering if you can do a new Kerry's Kitchen and come up with an inventive way to make my favourite meal more interesting.
C,mon use common sense. I'm sure his Momma didn't use "A Lot" of anything as they were poor. And it was probably cooked in a Cast Iron skillet, which does make a difference. Not toasted. Basically a grilled cheese but with peanut butter and banana.
You've got a few good points. His Momma probably didn't use a lot of ingredients (but TV movies show that she cooked often for him) but it was this elderly lady at Graceland who piled on the food he requested. Also, ain't nothing like a cast iron skillet (often called a "spider") which makes food taste great!
just ot put it into perspective, a normal adult should eat less than 10-12g of fat per DAY. hahaha so if you make this sandwhich, you should be in some hefty comfort eating mood haha.
This sandwich sounds interesting, I may give it a try, but I found several variations of the "Elvis" recipe on the web after watching your video. Yours sounds more authentic, but is it as close as the King would have made them? Some recipes call for not mashing the bananas but keeping the slices intact .
I believe I used the recipe out of the book "Are You Hungry Tonight?" I have seen variations and they are OK. Coming up is Elvis' "Gold Leaf Loaf Sandwich". A belly buster!! Watch for it soon.
Will be looking forward to that new video. I have to say yours is probably more authentic than most. I would also have to assume that Elvis probably had mashed and unmashed banana for his sandwich at any given time. Won't hurt to try both ways. :) And I suggest using your Foreman grill for the bacon fir the sandwich. No fat and it comes out great. :)
Thanks. I always use my Forman Grill for my own meals, however...I was trying to cook it the way it was made for him. Back in the day, Elvis loved lots of bacon grease!
The Elvis sandwich (sometimes simply "The Elvis") is a fried sandwich consisting of peanut butter, bananas, and sometimes bacon. It was supposedly one of Elvis Presley's favorite foods in his final years.
you do know you can change things on Wiki, Kids change things on that to make fun of Elvis. He LOVED those sandwitches, he ate them in the 50s cause his mom made them for him
I know "The King" is looking down from heaven and smiling in approval. He became immortal threw his epic music and a legend because of his Penut butter Banana Bacon sandwich that separates the Men from the Boys!!!
You had me in the palm of your hand until you added the bacon. Yuuuuuuuuuuuuk. That would be nasty. To each his own I suppose. I've been hooked on peanut butter sandwiches since my late teens. I like peanut butter, banana and raisins on whole grain bread. Yum, Yum. I enjoyed watching.
Hi Kerry, I watched you making your sandwich and I just thought i make one myself. And I did it - I was thinking about you all the time - while I was licking the knife, while matgerine was melting on a frying pan. I wore glasses too. I think you look so sexy in yours.
Oh my God! I feel dirty just watching that! It's food porn! I love it! I am soooo going to make that at some point... though I'll be at the gym the very next day!
Yumm! I just attempted a healthier (although still very fatty) version of this with Soy Bacon, Ezekial bread and fried in loads of Earth Balance (non-hydrogenated vegan butter). It's sooo delicious.
According to some recipe (including the one on food network's website), about 1/4 cup of honey should also drizzle honey on top of the banana. What's your opinion of that?
Thanks & let me know! I followed the recipe that was in an Elvis book. You may want to try a variation. Do what you like best. I want YOU to become the expert in simple recipes!
You're a trip Kerry and thank you for posting this video! I had myself a peanut butter and banana sandwich last night without the bacon. I don't mash my bananas with a spoon though. I slice them in half and put them on the bread. I will have to try toasting the bread, adding real butter, adding bacon, and frying the sandwich. It looks really good!
HY KERRY! I adore the ELVIS! and with this prescription is still better! I adore this series '' Kerry's Kitchen '' I wait to be able to see videos more of this series in briefing ONE I HUG!
Now we know why Elvis was dead by age 42. Eating that everyday would be enough to kill you. It does look like a great sandwich. i gained 5 pounds just watching the video.
