Look a few comments down and there is a full list of who everyone is. As listed, the woman at 1:48 is Dr Kay Redfield Jamison, author of the wonderful bipolar autobiography "An Unquiet Mind".
CONTEST CLOSED! Thank you everyone for your excellent entries. The people featured are Ada Byron, Brian Wilson, Carrie Fisher, Linda Hamilton, Kurt Cobain, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Lord Byron, Patrick Kennedy, Britney Spears, Sir Winston Churchill, Kay Redfield Jamison, Kurt Cobain, and Sarah from Bipolar Lives. The music is by Robert Schumann. The winner of the $50 gift card is Beth, a psychology student from Tennessee.
LAST DAY TO ENTER! Thanks to everyone who has entered. The haikus have been wonderful and it is so encouraging to get such great feedback and such high quality entries. Only 15 hours to go!
Yes, you can diagnose it, but it is based on a questionnaire - not a blood test, so that is why diagnosis is sometimes incorrect. The names will be added after the contest finishes on 7/27/08 - that is how people win the $50 so the names won't be added until the contest closes.
Excellent vidio - powerful statement about the strength and creativity of bipolar people. Good work. Some of my best friends are bipolar and I love them.
Excellent idea. I'll surely try my hand at the names but I'm struggling from the beginning :D Heheheh! Nice music too. Got a pretty good idea who that is ;) Thanks!
Thanks for commenting on this interesting issue. Nobody is proven to be bipolar. The diagnosis based on reported behavior and the diagnostician's personal feel for how this behavior fits with any of the current diagnostic criteria for the various bipolar subtypes. All bipolar is opinion not fact. Statements of opinion are not actionable as libel. Nor are statements made where there is a reasonable belief as to truth, or where no further damage can be done. "Someone" would have to be Ms Spears.
So when a diagnostician - with a legitimate Ph.D. - publicly releases information that he believes "said someone" is bipolar, or that "someone" release the information themselves, it won't be considered libel...which is any repeated falsehood that can damage your career.
If such is the case that this contest is based on opinion, you should make that abundantly clear in your video. That should clear you up from much risk.
I am very sorry this is bothering you. It is not my intent. When the results are published the source information may help you see why these particular people have been included. Perhaps visit the website and see some details about these people and their diagnosis. Five hundred characters is not enough to explain defamation law but as an attorney I am confident that I have not libeled anyone. Again, I am sorry the video has offended you and I do appreciate your interest and concern.
Part of me, and I'll be honest, thinks its just a little unfair to label someone something if they're going through such a hard time and that "something" may indeed be the cause.
Yes, I understand. I blogged a lot about her when the whole thing started spinning out of control, & I believe she has been treated badly. I would not have included her before her stay in the psych ward & her family's comments re mental health. I am a huge fan & know she will do well in treatment & end up on top. I think part of the problem is whether bipolar is an insult or just a description like "blonde" or something. Thanx for giving me someting real to chew over instead of "nice contest" :)
Of course. That would be wonderful. Thank you so much! And talk about great ideas!!! It is so good you commented as I didn't know about BP Radio. Cannot wait to check it out.
Some people are confused by the haiku part of the contest. Please don't be. A haiku is just a 3 line poem. The 1st line is 5 syllables. The 2nd line is 7 syllables. The 3rd line is 5 syllables. It is a simple structure of 5-7-5
Here are some examples of haikus relating to bipolar that I wrote this morning:
Wow, I did not realise how brilliant and talented you are, my friend! Well, I do but this shows me even more of your talents ... And you're famous too! ... Luv, this is great and well executed. Fantastic concept for a contest! Looking forward to seeing more of your creations. I've been promoting your website :)
Thanks for the positve feedback. Hmmmm . . . will think about whether to add names or not - contest is inially for the prize but may be nice to leave it as a stimulus for some research - will wait and see what others think. Cheers :)

There is no proof that Britney is bipolar. So I'd take it off your video before someone sues you for libel.

btw - the plural of haiku is "haiku" not "haikus" as in my comment below. Sorry folks. Please keep them coming. Thanks!

Lithium is salt
That makes your brain taste better
But don't add too much
Bipolar Haiku 2:

Hey JD. Am tempted to ask which 2, but that wouldn't really make sense would it?
BipolarLives 3 years ago
MMM. The lady in the paining and the guy that looks like Chris Christoferson. Probably doesn't help much.
I did recognize a distant relative of mine and that charing woman, what is her name? Sarah? Maybe? The one who runs bipolar lives.
