Jimmie Johnson won the championship the next 5 years, Dale Jr. is still most popular, so Vickers won this day but Jimmie was the real winner lucky this didn't cost him the title that year.
Benny Parsons in the booth calling the race with Wally Dallenbach analyzing/announcing it would've been great. Could never stand Bill Weber. He would always try to act like the smart one in the booth. I mean, just look at the video here. It shows it.
I'll always remember this race. If I'm not mistaken this was the weekend before thanksgiving. On my Wife's side of the family we all get together the weekend before to celebrate thanksgiving. No one on her side knows or cares anything about racing. But since we were all at my house I had it on the big screen. Now I'm setting at the kitchen table with a loaded fork on pause half way to my mouth when Dale Jr. Takes the white flag. Keep in mind there's about twenty kin folk between me and the TV.
They couldve finished this race under green but because JR spun, we had the throw out the caution... Even if JR hits the wall, yellow is out. Whats the point? He is never gonna win another race! XD
@BrazilianNascarFan That was the plan. It wasn't a points deal for Brian, so I think he was originally planning on pushing Jimmie to the front again, but obviously got into J.J. I still say it was a spectacular finish. At the time, I didn't hate Johnson, but I didn't really care for him either. I was cheering on Vickers to get the win. Wow, why does Brian Vickers always look like a bad guy when he wins? In the Open, Mike Bliss came down on Brian. Here, he misjudged the bumpers.
@CarMan792 But even still, all of the drivers were mathematically eligible to win the championship at the time. The top-8 were within 1 race, but 9th and 10th were within 2 races.
@CarMan792 There were only 2 people for NBC/TNT that knew what they were talking about, and that was BP and Alan Bestwick. RIP BP, and Bestwick's with ESPN now.
@nascarfanatic2425 I agree. BP was great, funny and knew what was going on. At least they got rid of Bill Weber. I could not stand him and his cliches every race. Alan Bestwick is good and I am glad he is in the booth with ESPN and not the pit road hauler anymore. Fox has the best coverage though.
I'm sick of people saying Vickers wrecked both of them. He pulled down to help his teammate, and he mistimed it. There's no way in about 0.5 seconds he thinks of a move to wreck both of them. Very simple if you ask me.
@pacmancucumber1783 I agree dude. Vickers was trying to help J.J., and he just barely clipped Jimmie Johnson. If you look at the replay again, Vickers just barely touched Jimmie. Bet ya with any money, if Vickers wrecked Jimmie intentional, either A) he would've wrecked with them or B) Jr. wouldn't have gotten wrecked.

This is my favorite Wally Dallenbach call of all time:
"OHHHH NOHOHO!"
Classic.

"Kahne, it's not a points deal for him." Umm, IDK where you were Wally, but if I'm right, I'm pretty sure Kasey Kahne was a chase driver in 2006.

@nascarfanatic2425 I think at this point in the Chase then, Kahne was in 10th, so if he wrecked, he couldn't go any farther back.

@nascarfanatic2425 Yeah. Half of it is NBC not knowing how to broadcast a race and Wally being dumb.

@CarMan792 No arguement there. Fox is the best of the 3. It's the only place you can find DW, the Digger Camm, and it's the home of the Daytona 500.
