the ass holes that owned our stores sold us out.. it was the worst thing that could have happened most of the people that worked with me worked there for more then 20 years..
Grocery stores shutting down is a pretty severe indicator of economic malaise. It happened here in central TX in 88 after the S&L crisis. We had several grocery stores close within one year. In fact, one Piggly-Wiggley which had been under construction for over a year shut down 3 days after opening. First the furniture stores shut down... then the electronics stores... then the grocery stores. Here we go again.
Just wanted to say, Albertsons has been having tons of problems way before this economic shitstorm. I believe Albertsons was split into 2 separate companies and CVS bought the stand-alone Sav-Ons.
Dude, the price increases have NOTHING to do with demand or storms or anything.
IT'S THE FEDERAL RESERVE!!
They are printing money like it is going out of style, and that is lowering the purchasing power of our dollars. What you are describing is inflation due to money printing - pure and simple.
Don't be fooled with silly weather reports and population booms in China and India. All of that is nonsense next to what the Fed is doing.

@scopulus93 the wal marts around here all have empty shelves- i asked the manager and she said they were remodeling. I use to shop at this Riverside location even before it was Albertson's.Back in the 90's it was Lucky's and was always pleased with prices and services. When Albertson's took over the prices were still reasonable and the Luck's employees stayed. One of the reasons I stopped shopping at Albertson's due to the strike they had.As I tried to enter to shop not knowing what was going on the same employee's that Shopped with were actually calling me names and cussing me out for entering the store?
its the end of getting food for yourself, soon we will wait in lines for bread, rice and water!?! stock up now and have plenty of food, water guns and ammo!!
Uncompetitive store chain closes? This is news? The networks with their

Food prices aren't spiking because of bad weather, global warming, shortages, more hungry people, or any other lame propaganda coming from the Government. None of these problems have been severe enough to spike prices everywhere on the planet simultaneously. It is the first sign of inflation due to money printing that every central bank in the world has been doing for two years. It always affects food and energy first.
Albertsons is the highest priced market out there. We all get the weekly ads in the mail from Vons, Food For Less, Ralphs and Ablertsons, and Every store has lower prices than Albertsons. So it's no suprise that people shop at other stores. I do, you do, everybody does. Good riddance to Ablertsons! Its there own fault for putting themselfs in this situation. If you can't compete with other markets, then see-ya.

Groceries stores all over the inland empire are closing? Really? You make it sound as this is a huge issue when in fact it is not. More accurate would be an assessment that the grocery space is too overcrowded in some areas and there are adjustments being made. To me, that means the ones that remain should do better, that's all. With change comes opportunity, always.
Albertsons closed years ago in parts of Florida. There's more demand for specialty markets here like Whole Foods and Fresh Market, besides Publix has the major market share here. Albertsons was never even missed.
They keep the unions out so they can pay their workers less than other retailers, so poorly in fact that many are on food stamps & their children are in free lunch programs (we the taxpayer, you could say, are partly paying for their workers)

@SolarShip2010 You are a bigot and a fool. There is no food shortage. it's a distribution issue. If there were a food shortage they wouldn't use corn to make fuel. Your attitude is pathetic and your plan in meaningless. This is all planned. If you have been a veggie eater for 30 years and you are acting like that you still have some growing up to do. Stop communicating like a juvenile and act like a man. Anonymously threatening with violence over the internet is just stupid.
@st4ticblu3 --- If all these retarded meat-eaters would cut their meat intake in half, then the whole world would have more food and water than it knows what to do with.
But a meat-eater, having ate so much meat, their brains have stagnated in a state of sludge, therefore they cannot understand the above statement. The future is vegetarian. The rest of you do not matter to the future.
Albertsons closing is no big deal. They closed in the Mid-South & elsewhere 2-3 yrs ago. They just can't compete with lower prices like at Walmart. I believe the only way that Kroger stays open is due to their great specials they have once a week. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to afford shopping there either.
@Patriots4Liberty They get alot of their food from the same source as Trader Joes. I like the unpasturized Orange and Grapefruit Juice. Fresh & Easy will actually reduce their prices on Items just before they expire. Trader Joes claims to give Food to chairity but I doubt it, I see it stacked in carts? Greedy
Albertsons Suck. They almost closed down about 10 years ago too. But kept going from Loans, and someone else bought the company. Frankly I am surprised Albertsons have been around this long. This isn't surprising at all.
Albertson's prices are higher than most other stores in my area and they don't have anything special to offer like Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. There's an Albertson's store about a block from my home but I rarely shop there, I'd rather drive a couple of miles to Smith's (Kroger's) they have the same products at much lower prices.
Unions have ruined more businesses, especially these past few years. Every company needs to make a decent profit in order to stay in business and employ people. As the population grows world-wide, the demand for food will increase but the fertile land to grow it is decreasing. Time to learn how to plant a garden and can your food.
I actually quit using my local grocery store much in France, the Franprix, last year. They treat their employees badly, the prices are high and they stopped carrying equitable items (they have some organic still). My spouse took over and goes to the greenmarket, and the Carrefour -- which is the same company as Franprix, but they have a loyalty card and credits. We're spending less on food than we did a year ago. There are always solutions, people -- THINK! Good video, George, will share.
@slobomotion I thought everybody in Paris France ate Crossiants and Cappichino's sitting in an outdoor cafe looking like an artist and never cooked at home or is that Rome where people do that?
@valhala56 Hee hee hee hee! You should look at my vids! I am CUTECATFAITH and SLOBOMOTION on YouTube, and on Dailymotion, I am "LisaFalour." I have been here 18 years but am from Ohio (Amish-type bg) and NYC (very punk) and am a perpetual tourist here! I could use a new viewer, have a look! (The coffee is terrible in France, BTW!)
Well it is difficult for high end grocery stores to compete with Walmart. There is a Weis market in my area that has 5 self checkout machines and the other section is traditional. At the very least I think we will start to see more and more self service in grocery stores and everywhere you can imagine. Newer more efficient concepts are beginning to come online that will further remove human employees except the person pulling the levers. The economy is shaping companies in this way to compete.
I try to avoid walmart and when possible avoid buying goods made in China, although some of their products are decent, it's just that we are losing our country to them and other foreigners. So if possible, I pay more for American, it's hard to find though. Even vegetables, Canada and Mexico.

@george4title Haven't heard anything about Albertsons closing stores here in Idaho. Which, Albertsons is actually headquartered here in Boise. I'll keep my eyes open, and check this out on my end.
I am here in NY and a supermarket called Shoprite is building stores, and taking business from the high end stores like Trader Joe's, and Whole Foods.
I go to Trader Joes for everything but meat, which I buy at Smart and Final. The Ralph's by my house stopped being open 24 hours, though that might be due to theft. Food prices are going to skyrocket because of commodity prices. I shifted from Gold and Silver, to food this month. I just bought about 200lbs of whole oat groats this weekend. There are some great sights that sell survival food in buckets, different sites have different varieties.
All of the Albertson's closed down in Austin a few years back. They were always the highest priced store, it wasn't a surprise. I do miss their awesome coupon deals.
Just watching the Mick Jagger Movie "FreeJack" George and it reminded me of you, LOL.
On a lighter note the movie Soylent Green makes me thing of Wallmart, pretty soon the only source of food not from an actual real farm will be Walmart food, all the Carcingens,GMO, Petroleum byproducts made into tasty cheese doodles and Psuedo Box food.
Yeah we are being taxed & slow poisoned by good ol Wall Street, WallStreet, Wallmart-see the connection? LOL
Fresh & Easy hires primarily part-time 2nds @ that rate. . . Managers get the full time benefited positions. Everyones else is part-time help. My ex-gf works for them.
They're not closing down all the Riverside stores, are they? I hope not, I have a large one close to my home and I really like it over other stores. Is the one you were at in the vid on Arlington? I don't go to that one and I was just curious.
"Supervalu was trading close to 18 in April. Now, after falling another 15 percent last week to $7.39, the stock is at its lowest point in nearly a quarter century.
The company, which operates Albertsons, Jewel-Osco, Acme and other chains, also cut its forecast for the year."
Ironically, and this comes from the History Channel's 2hr program on the decaying US infrastructure ... if a storm event hits Sacramento and collapses the barrier inland canals ... California would have to live off the water stored in the Central Valley Irrigation System.
Chinese consumers are entering the world market for food because much arable farm land in China has been covered with enormous factory parks. They can't feed their population anymore with the arable land that they have like they used to be able to.
George Supervalu (operates Albertsons stores in Oregon and Northern California) said they are going to raise prices I believe pretty much across the board, some as high as 14%!
George, here in Simi Valley the Ralph's in the Wood Ranch Shopping Center is closing in May 2011. Of course, a new Target store with groceries opened this past October... I think it has killed Ralph's business.
But food and energy are not included when the government calculates inflation so I guess we will be all right then, huh? Since I do the shopping in my home, I have noticed food prices on the rise for the past 3 years. Good food that is, meat, and fresh fruit and vegetables.

W: Not very. He wanted money, angry & drunk, sapped of his fighting spirit.
M: G4T should've slapped SoCal's precious happy little face.
W: Mikee's a sitting-duck for dark societal forces with an alcoholic-induced
diminished consciousness.

What do you think about the food from Fresh & Easy?
Patriots4Liberty 1 year ago 5
@Patriots4Liberty great and cheap
george4title 1 year ago
@Patriots4Liberty They get alot of their food from the same source as Trader Joes. I like the unpasturized Orange and Grapefruit Juice. Fresh & Easy will actually reduce their prices on Items just before they expire. Trader Joes claims to give Food to chairity but I doubt it, I see it stacked in carts? Greedy

Albertsons Suck. They almost closed down about 10 years ago too. But kept going from Loans, and someone else bought the company. Frankly I am surprised Albertsons have been around this long. This isn't surprising at all.

If you don't serve organic quality meats, eggs and raw milk, its a useless store.
WTC7WasPulled 1 year ago

Albertsons has long since closed in Austin. There were plenty of stores to take it's place. This is more of a company thing.

Albertsons closed down here in Miami, Florida years ago. They just can't compete.
terryrodcrz 1 year ago
We lost our Albertsons a couple of years ago in Cali.
Instrumentally 1 year ago

Albertsons closed most of its OC stores several years ago. They are just one of many stores run by this chain.

The big chain stores will hold prices down until they have destroyed the small grocers and other stores... then prices will begin to rocket.

LOL

"Supervalu was trading close to 18 in April. Now, after falling another 15 percent last week to $7.39, the stock is at its lowest point in nearly a quarter century.
The company, which operates Albertsons, Jewel-Osco, Acme and other chains, also cut its forecast for the year."
Turn out the lights.

George, here in Simi Valley the Ralph's in the Wood Ranch Shopping Center is closing in May 2011. Of course, a new Target store with groceries opened this past October... I think it has killed Ralph's business.
