BTW, there are only three chord types that he is using 99% of the time and that is Minor 7th, Major 7th, and Dominant 7th. You can add to a major 7th by adding a 6th and you can add to a minor 7th ny adding an 11th. Both Major 7th's have a 9. Dominant 7th has a nine as well but can also use different combinations of the 11 and 13. That is it, that is all there is 99% of the time in Jazz or Contemporary urban gospel, just three 7th chords with a 9! .
There are patterns that you must learn that apply to all keys.
These chord patterns have chords built off of the 7 tones of a major scale.
You need to learn how to hear and play those patterns first. This guy is showing you chord substitutions on each of the 7 tones of the major scale. This may make you sound good but unless you know your basics and know how chord progression work, via by patterns then you will just end up frustrated!
try the user lypur guys,he is a piano teacher and like the guy above says he is teaching to how to fish,,lypus is a youtube user who gives you lessons for free from the very beggining,,he is a very nice guy and great teacher ,,i am personaly very happy i found him!!! try it ,,!!
Another guy trying to sell something (his reference book) on YouTube. Instead of buying his reference book and blindly using his chord substitution suggestions, spend your money to learn the theory elsewhere on the web and come up with your own substitutions. Learn to fish instead of just being given a fish.
This is a harmonization of first 4 measures of Hark the Herald Angels Sin in the key of F Major, using extended and altered melody harmonization. He explains it well but he doesn't tell you what tricks he is using to reharmonize.
It should be possible to work it out. same way you can work out the spelling of all triads in a key if you know one of them( - you should be able to do the same- in a set of 4 notes
CEG + B= Cmaj7, +
dFA + C= Dmin7
eGB + D= emin 7
FAC
GBD
aCE
bdf
if the third minor has a 7 and # 5, work out the work that spelling out and count up and down from it along the steps of the scale - should give you the spelling
Yeah, it's fairly easy to work out all the chords in any given scale or mode, but those kinds of harmonies contain no accidentals and cannot be considered complex- okay, by watching this video you CAN get a chord progression to go along with hark the herald (you can get the chord spelling/ voicing/ inversion too if you look at the hands and watch the vid a few times- but this vid is tittled "create complex harmony..." - should b renamed "one harmonization 4 Hark The Herald"
this is awesome, I've been looking for something like this forever. Do you mind telling me a keyword or two about what this is called so I can look up further details on google?

What kind of logic are you using to pick out these ESOTERIC chords? "Add 9?".
I think perhaps you're making music a bit too complex.
