  • It's actually Magicicada (Magi-cicada), not MagiC-Cicada.

  • @nickthestick26 Yes, I know, thanks. Yet I've taken the liberty to separate the prefix "magi" deliberately to highlight the word "magic" that was given to the genus because of their unique life-cycle. "Magi-" comes from the Greek word for "magician" or "magical."

  • lower age of consent laws? i live in mississippi, and i simply assumed that the age of consent was 18. maybe i'm wrong. here i am 22, and i'd rather not have anyone younger than 18 anyways.

i thought that was funny tho!

  • @SkooterBush Hehe! My attempt at that humorous comment was intended to expose a false stereotype held by some Northerners about the South. Thanks for thinking it was funny -- that was the point, lol! :-)

  • @tommiji I recently learned that the age of consent in MS is 16

  • They have come...

  • ive got them here at my house in west virginia and they divebomb me when im outside.

  • "Then they emerge to have a massive orgy." LOL that made me laugh LOL.

  • I feel bad for the cicadas :(

  • Cicadas are on the scene here in Tasmania. It has been an excellent education for my kids & myself. They're very interesting insects & do get very loud. I think ours are under ground for 7 years... One time the cicadas attracted thousands of crows & thier noise was extreme too. fun.

  • hey - don't diss the great wiki ;)

  • I like them. Cicada singing reminds me my past life.

  • i accidentally crushed one with my bike :(

i was looking back, and when i turned my head around it was too late, he/she had already been crushed under the wheel.. poor thing

  • Wow... That's great! This cicada does not crawl on Japan.

  • Hey, thanks for watching! Yes, this particular cicada is only in North America. On Wikipedia, it is called "素数ゼミ" in Japanese!

  • Oh. Thank you so much!

  • aparently you live next to o hare international. thats gotta be loud (with the cicadas and the jets)!

  • They are not cute. Those red beady eyes...ew! Funny commentary though, Tom. Next stop..Discovery Channel/Animal Planet for you! Best, Joy

  • But waait! What about Chris the Cicada?

  • well, he's likely gone by now. :-( but something tells me he had loads of fun in his short time above ground! ;-)

  • lol lower age of consent laws in the south, yes we do seem to have them often in Oklahoma, maybe every year?!

  • very dramatic footage, tommiji -- I just hope the ASPCA was involved in the making of this film.

  • lol! i'm more worried about some other folks' vids (see comment below, yikes).

  • Thank you for uploading this :)

Very interesting animals, but they're noisy buggars ;)

  • I still have my souvenier plastic replica cicada keychain that makes the sound of the cicada. Do they have any souveniers in Chicagoland this year? I want one. Buy me one. Please. No matter how tacky. I want souveniers.

  • haha, i'll look around, bro - there's got to be some fun magic cicada items, no doubt!

  • great video,

fortunately in my country an invasion like this is rare.

  • heh. well, these bugs are pretty harmless if annoyingly loud. anyhow there are none near my house in the city - i had to drive a few miles away to get this video footage.

  • way cool bro they are here in kentucky 2 or they were

  • Ah yes, there is a brood of these periodical cicadas down that-a-way. Some people eat 'em, yuk!

  • That's very intersting! I couldn't stand the loudness of the cicada masses, I guess. My ears would explode :P

  • Haha, thankfully they are quiet at night time. But all day long the males sing little love songs that only a female cicada can truly appreciate, lol!

  • The sound is very cool actually
