Here are some faults in the story. Roshi Kapleau didn't live in Japan before the trials of war crimes after WWII. And it was Robert Aitken roshi who were in war camp in Japan and read Blyth's book about Zen and poetry. Roshi Kapleau were given permission to teach by Yasutani roshi, not given inka by neither him nor Harada roshi.

But still an amazing Zen roshi!

Thanks for sharing your experiences training under Kapleau roshi. It's interesting to hear from somone who trained with the guy that got me started in zazen - via his book the 3 pillars of zen.
