Yes congratulations and if the new song he represents UK with is as good as this one, then we will surely win........just a pity it can't be this song he sings
Almost 50 years later, Engelbert has been selected to represent the UK in the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest! Congratulations and I hope a new generation rediscovers his music.
I will like to see him remake this song in the recording studio to four or five minutes. This song is too beautiful for only two minutes. I think he still have the voice to rerecord this song to perfection.
@Jillthinkstwice and others - I sent a suggestion some time ago to "60 Minutes" (an American television newsmagazine show) to do a program segment on Engelbert's life, as I think the viewers would find it very interesting. In my suggestion I included links to this video and the Spanish Eyes 1969 video as I like them very much. I hope they do a program segment on him one day.
I've always liked his songs, but I must say I find the location of this video a bit odd. I wouldn't associate an industry terrain with silos and gassy pumps with a love story, unless there is an explanation for it.
@Legionwizard It's the harbour of Seabruges (Zeebrugge) in Belgium, it is near Knokke, where the song contest used to be, which Engelbert won, but I'm sure that they could make prettier images around the area...
how can we help but love this man to pieces? The voice, the looks, the personality, the charm , those eyes and even the eyelashes!!He is like no other man in this world. Loved him then and love him now.
this song came before RELEASE ME , it is funny 40 years have spent and Engelbert keeps
on the road n fortunately for the ones who like real singers m no doubt has /is the unique singing slow songs I follow him since Iwas 12 , mow I am 52.
Isn't it wonderful to be able to see how he looked in the early years? Yes, he has paid his dues, a long struggle to get where he is today, and he deserves every bit of the glory. He just never gave up, and that is what you need to succeed in this world. It must be so unbelievable for Enge and his wife, Patricia, to look at these films from early on, and then all the memories that come rushing back. May God keep you always, safe in the palm of his hands.....
I'm so drawn to this video of our Enge from the moment I first saw it on YT. The fact that here he seemed so new not yet THE engelbert as we know and love until today. His begin is so similar to most of us venturing on a new undertaking. A bit warily at first. The ending unknown. Most likely he himself would tell us (as he sings on that bridge) that he never dreamt that he would be who he is to- day: So famous & so loved by millions. Just goes to show how life can be.
Hello Ikkeyik, I'm just as drawn to this video now as you are, the melody is so classical, it shows Enge sprouting his way to perfect his dream of being the ultimate entertainer, that's blooming for years and years. I think that is why this video can be so cherished and precious!
Hi Grace, When he looks back he must sometimes have a good laugh at his 'boyishness' (and yet so cute). That is so explicit in this song: his 'youngness'.
Yes grarang you're fantastic, thanks! I specially feel drawn and attached to this song and the whole episode sourronding it. Without understanding why. (A funny kind of mysery to me). His powerful & romantic voice, the song, his way of singing, the way he smiled shyly (which never fail to make me laugh - so cute) and also his special looks.
I thought so too that this could have being his first known/unknown song. So he did win the EuroCup! Our EG turning everything he touches to gold.

Ikkeyik, I am reading Enge's autobiography book right now and I just came to the part that says "Dommage" is his first recording with Decca after he won at the song festival, topped the charts in Belgium, so thanks to MrMule it is really great to see this early video of our beloved EH!
I'm now all smiles and happiness My Lovely Engelbert is back again. Welcome back my Lovely with your beautiful voice and your handsomeness. Much thanks MrMule81.

This song is too short. I replay it on and on a day. A beautiful song that's sung beautifully by a great singer .
