  • I remember seeing this carved into a stone in an Edinburgh close (alley).

"There are no stars so lovely as Edinburgh street lamps. Robert Louis Stevenson."

That was a great time in my life. Thanks for bringing back some great memories.

I like your song. I have listened a few times. I can't help but think of the time I spent in Scotland.

    Cheers,

    allen

  • @carvetop01 thankyou Allen for relating that memory:-)..it is the little things that touch us...sparks of humanity, I spose...what I found sad was that RLS died far from the homeland he loved...that he traveld the world as much as he did, amazing..! his health was frail... ..less is more sometimes,.. simple thought says more than deep thought...the steetlamp sentiments, lovely.how many have thought the same, but only he thought to write it out?.Cheers !XOS, Laurie

  • Awesome song, Laurie! I love the mood and smoothness.

  • @Luknopfler83 ..thankyou Lukas!......this was really only meant to be a sample song..sometime first takes, are the ones to run with, even imperfect--for they are..not to be re-captured! LOL.

    cheers! XOs, Laurie

  • Laurie..you are one of the most highly original artistes around, and we're lucky to have you :))

  • @blokebroadcasting Tim, you are a dear heart! thankyou!....say, are we kickin a ball around tomorrow?......or on your shores, is that today? hehehe.......nothing like a month of soccer to take out hearts and minds offa troubles.......XOS, Laurie

  • Great to listen & watch,Laurie. Impossible for me to appreciate all your efforts, here. The 'bits' I could 'dig' were enough, and I liked the baritone Ukulele /vocals. Cheers.

  • @Gregparkerblues thankyou so much Greg...I just say thanks for listeing in , you are faithful:-)....have a super weekend!...I'm so busy, not alot of time for play:-)

    XOs, Laurie

  • I remember, what Bob wanted for his epitaph was:

"Home is the sailor; home from the sea. And the hunter home from the hill."

  • @paulhallart his sentiments, worn on his sleeve (or paper/stone) ....he longed to return to his homeland...the sailor, yes, he could qualify!!!! ............certainly a substantial passenger of the world!

    Cheers!

    XOs, Laurie

  • @cinderellalifestyle we're sailors on the sea of words. with poetry we can stretch past the horizon of understanding. I've used poetry to understand economics a bit more than comprehensible. We shall ply our barque 'yond those waters of Stephenson and London, 'till we return, cargo laden, minds thrilled by those sparks beyond structural restraint of humankind locked in storm-torn ports. Or treasure island plight: where to safe-keep save in it's investment abroad. His sentiment seems altruistic.

  • Great work, Laurie! u'r reachin' out the window really well to gather some special figs. When music crosses our dreams it's literally like walkin' on air.

    -

I lived in Pango Pango, where Stephenson once resided for a while. I almost got a job as an art teacher in the high school, but had to move on, selling my poetry on the streets of Honolulu Hi to get to the Main Land to sell an underground newspaper I wrote on economics (50 thousand miles in one summer) to get back to Paris.

  • @paulhallart LOVE your account,,,,,,,time to write some of it down? ..travelogues/writers "take you there" .......I RODE that immigrant train with Stevenson,.......my mind travels where my life does not allow travel, atall........

    thanks Paul!

    XOs, Laurie

  • @cinderellalifestyle your mind, therefore affords you a transport mechanism far more effective than any terrestrial conveyance. It takes you to your faculties which are vital with productivity.

    -

my reticence at autobiography is epitomized in the awe of the individual's potential, in that my travels also enabled me to see the universe of capability locked up inside each human being. I've conversed with over one million people, finally getting to where I could realize somewhat each's importance

  • Oh Laurie..Sorry to be slow on the up take, only came back from my travels late last night! ..lol :))

what a beautiful song, very ethereal...amazing images...actually that song sent tingles down my spine is was lovely, probably my favourite of yours so far....I'm a total romantic by nature myself+love tales of true love+passion..funny we're supposed to be hard+insular these days...I'm not,,LOL,,I read Robert Louis Stevenson at school many moons ago.may re visit him now..wonderful my dear friend XX

  • @MissPandora1967 thankyou so much;-) I'm all for soft hearts.......the kinsship of the artist, I suppose...the world seen in a romantic way........one of my first loved "love" novels, was Little Women, .......classics often don't have time/age boundaries......neither does love, I spose. these times call for the opposite of hard and insular! much love2u..XOS, Laurie

  • Thats got some great atmosphere. Mighty fine stuff, Laurie!

  • @YoppyKyabetsu thankyou so much Yoppy! really off the cuff....often a surprise gem, the unforced, unplanned.........

    XOs,m laurie

  • Well LaurieLee I guess by now you must know Robert Louis Stevenson must have felt. I can just see those words you wrote coming from his own hand! Thats what real Artist's do...they become one with there subject!! I got a big smile whilst listnin'

along with some chills ! :) ...the good kind ;) !!....till the mountians wash into the sea..

    Larry

    Your fan back East :)

  • @23L OH,...thankyou Larry.....that is QUITE a compliment! ....I always hope for "deeper thinking" songs.....sometimes, the simplest lines say the most you could hope for, don't they?.......love had a pull on the man, to cross an ocean and a continent, ......I think it says alot., just the journey.

XOS, your lil fan out west,,,,,

    LaurieLee

  • Wonderful vocals and I love the sound and mystery of this song! Great songwriting and guitar! ;)

  • @KarenEng it IS a mystery, Karen!.......a lovely story behind the love....there is speculation that Fanny tried to discourage Roberts affection, by a cable she sent him.from the US..no one knows, his response was to take a journey to be where she was.....I liked reading that altho his parents were against his interest in this married, later divorced woman with children......Fanny grew to be a beloved daughter in law...hearts should always be open to change..:-)love to you..

    XOs, Laurie

  • I love your "simple" lyrics. The song, the video, and the presentation here on your page make for a very inviting package! Nicely done LaurieLee! (reminds me of a personal quest to find out more about the artist who did an original illustration I came by years ago - a really great experience - before google - hadda use the library(s)!)

  • @cadwalladee mind of the curious........I was born that way.......cannot be bad, ususally leads to research and better understanding! .I once found a piece of pottery I tracked down the maker.......google made it easy...sometime must hear the story----of your illustrator........"I wonder" is one of the things my family often hears me sya! • Very fine lyrics, Laurie. You got the most out of every word, and you didn't fall down once. RLS was a very interesting man. I've been out to the island of Erraid in Scotland where I guess his family quarried stones for building lighthouses. Very cool place, and it shows up in his novel Kidnapped. Might be time for me to read him again.

  • @DearOldNutjob the website mentioned is really nice, but you have to sit at the puter to read.. ...... a pretty cool occupation!!!, ........rock farming:-), engineering... I like rocks, perhaps ancestral , in my blood...... a great great grandfather immigrating from Germany built a dairy barn for 100 head of dairy cows, outa rock! .......thanks so much for listens!

  • I really like this a lot Laurie,Very moving .

Straight from the heart, longing, sound n' feel.

I've never read his works before but I just read the poem,

"From a Railway Carriage" and he "feels" very familiar to me.

Perhaps because I used to believe I should have been born

in the dawn of the machine age.

Much of my art relates to that era. .....ah, who cares...

My point is, I can relate well to his work and his writing.

Love it ! Thanks for this. -wally :-))

  • @profwaldo I think we'd all like to go back in time........just to see it for ourselves! why the classics are beloved//////they take us there,..in a way....!blessings to you, XOs---Laurie
