In Thailand WILL find people calling Muay Thai, "boxing" as well as in Cambodia the locals calling Pradal Serey, "boxing"

Pradal Serey and Muay Thai you use your hands, legs, knees and elbows. Western boxing is only hands. In my opinion the hand techniques from western boxing are much more effective than Pradal Serey and Muay Thai punches for ring fighting.

@MasterTha You are right that a Western Boxer's punches are more effective, it is because they only train in punching and upper body strenght. In Muay Thai you use your whole body, giving you a couple of extra weapons which results in less training in punching only. But in a ringfight Muay Thai vs Western Boxing, the boxers legs will be destroyed if they allow kicks. When it's just pure boxing, Boxing will prove more efficient indeed. Btw, good comment.

@willieofroanoke - That kid will be fine. Thailand isn't really "3rd world," there's some opportunity there... first of all, he can be an instructor for Muay Thai boxing. Martial Arts tend to give kids a sort of confidence and strength that will help him succeed in the future.... I wouldn't worry so much about him.
