1969 - not 1968. Garfunkel - not Garfunkle. Be that as it may, thank you. This is one of the greatest masterpieces of ALL time, and certainly among S & G's finest. I don't know how many hundreds, prpbably thousands of times I have listened to this gem (thank God for the REPEAT function). Compare today's crap to this Work of Art. Picasso could not have done better, if he wrote songs!
so im thinking of making another video because of how many people postively responded to this one. I was thinking the sound of silence. What do you all think? Let me know
Im just a 14 year old girl, so i dont know much about the world. All i know, is that this song, these men, deserve way more recognition than they get.. My teacher thinks ''its a relief that some kids these days like real music'' see he knows what hes talking about ;) Ive been brought up with songs like this.. True Amazing music, Beautiful lyrics, yet so many people nowadays have NO Clue on the sort of talents that hapend before N-dubz. (Not hating on N-dubz ;P) xx
Thanks for the video. I have it on vinyl and CD but guess what...I had forgotten a few of the words over the years so seeing the lyrics there too was a big plus for me as my hearing has gone a little dull. I am now going to play it on my guitar like I did years back...what will it sound like? rubbish but I love this song. Thanks again!
alright to everyone who commented on this video about me spelling garfunkel wrong or me saying its from the 80's thanks fer ur correction but i was like 10 when i did this so cut me some slack hahaha (i uploaded it a few years after i made it just an fyi)
@coaster184 Coaster, you did a good job. It's neat that you loved one of the first songs from Simon and Garfunkel. They are great songwriters. Paul Simon has told many a tale of family, love, despair and being lost and in love, too. Good job on the download when you were ten. I have no idea how to download. I am 56.
@asfdghist he reversed the placement of the final "e" and "l"
I love this song but I am stuggling to understand what it is talking about. maybe I am just too dumb for this kind of music...
but I still appreciate it because, like all other songs by S&G, it evokes a lot of powerful emotions and is masterfully crafted. I love S&G but unfortunately rarely understand what Paul was talking about lol
@Mattwilco123 You managed to only write crap none cares about on a song that is amazing, which is way worse than writing whore wrong... For crying out loud....
@Peter Tattersall46: LOL! Seriously Peter? If couldn't find depth in the 80's, then you weren't paying attention. With artist like REM, The Police / Sting, Peter Gabriel / Phil Collins / Genesis, Bob Seger, Tears For Fears, Robert Plant, Journey, Alphaville, Chris Isaak, Duran Duran, Nik Kershaw, Howard Jones, etc., etc, etc, ................................................ You would have to be deaf & "dumb" to miss the depth in that decade. =)
Paul Simon wrote this song in1968 and heard on tv in 1968 played live in1969 but for some reason it was finally officially released in 1970. Im just guessing they were still strict on 5min song being released on the radio waves until the Beatles ended that era in1968 with Hey Jude 7:00+ song. After that, the radio stations seamed to eased their grip on the longer songs being that this one is over 5 mins. Its just my guess.
You misspelled disregards. Also, you are a decade off; this record came out in 1970. Frankly, given what was going on musically in 1980, a release like this wouldn't have stood a chance to become the icon album that it is.
80's? LOL! No disrespect here, but try late 60's / Early 70's, if my internal clock is not too far off. =) I'm guessing you are pretty young to make that mistake. But now for the compliment. I have loved this song since I was "just a poor boy" back then. Some songs are like great old friends that blow in & out of your life when they have the chance to. This one is one of those songs for me. "The fighter still remains." Thank you for posting it. =)
@cmoeller3 so what im 15 and love love the beatles and f-ing hate rap so who cares if its b4 your time, love the music you want to listen to, ok, so just injoy it while it last.
@thehollyrocker69 ".. but the fighter still remains". we re not going we're already deep in shits that corporate industry put us into- with help of mass media and PR.. unfortunately modern slavery (economic dependance) is sth we have to deal with so ppl choose to have their minds brainwashed rather than ability of thinking rational..
I really love this song. It a little before my time but has a timeless quality to it. It is amazing that two persons who simply could not get along personally were able to produce such profound creations together...simply amazing.
this and classical gas are two songs that you have to listen to when you just wanna sit down and chill out
