I'm from near Yorkshire and from my experience, people don't actually say 't' for 'the'; they simply miss it out all together. It would be; 'Lion, Witch an' Wardrobe' rather than 't' Lion, t' Witch and t' Wardrobe'. In 'Going down t' shops', the 't' is short for 'to' and the 'the' is again missed out altogether. This clip is still very funny.
@Liam2621 Alot more poverty in the South? That is absolute nonsense. I just don't understand why you would make something like that up? Surrey is the richest county followed by WIltshire. I'm from Manchester and some parts of Cheshire are pretty bad much, worse than some of the worse parts of the South (Where I have also resided)
omg michael mcintyre is hilarious! i love this sketch lol i dont know why the other comedians look so hostile and impatient - look at russel howard at 1:28 hes not even clapping! their all just jealous because michael mcintyre is a legend!
Hes right, i'm from the north and the word 'the' is missing from some things like i say "t'other one" and "t'internet" but i have to say "are you taking t'piss" has never come out of my mouth:L lol hes very funny though:)
I'm from Yorkshire, and I agree with "the" is missing from alot of things. However its more like we'd say "lion, witch n, wardrobe" rather then that weird sound that came from his mouth lol
My other half and in-laws are all from North Yorkshire and none of them, nor their friends, speak like that. In fact, they all pronounce "the" clearer than I do!
it depends where you are in yorkshire tbh. like some areas are much more common like doncaster, like say "i'm just guin t' shop" but i hate it so i don't mind people taking the piss coz i do :L
i've always admired improv comedians because they come up with funny stuff like this off the top of their heads. plus michael mcintyre is just EPIC :L
You actually think anything on Mock The Week comes off the top of their heads? They are given the questions and topics about a day before so they have time to think of "witty" replies.
The problem with this section is that it's a bollocks misconception that southern comics constantly get wrong. The "t" sound is merely implied and the word "the" is missed out. That's why McIntyre is shit, if you're going to have your entire act based on observations at least get your fucking references correct.
@doosher what is your PROBLEM! The things they say are sometimes exaggerated, but that's part of what makes it funny. i've never seen mock the week before, and thought it was based on improv. Excuse me for making an honest mistake, i mean, it's not like your perfect is it?
@doosher woah, peace and love peace and love people. Actually i'm a northerner ish (i come from stoke on trent) and actually i both imply the t sound and actually say the t. (anyone else notice i use actually too much lol)
@Jeiaga Some parts of northern England talk like this, but not all. It's a bit like the stereotype of Canadians saying 'Ay', or those pesky colonials in 'America' saying 'yeeeehaaaa!'.
was is it i'm purchasing here ? t' lion t' witch and t' wardrobe, t' good, t' bad and t'ugly and t' t' :L love Micheal Mcintyre

@Kirkkoman Some parts of surrey are awful, there are more poor areas in london than the whole north west.

@Liam2621 I don't know why you seem to get a kick out of this but statistically this is far from the truth.
