The Joelma fire footage is much more graphic then 9-11 because the cameras were actually close enough to capture the chaos, unlike the 9-11 that was too high to see exactly what was happening inside the bulding.

incrível com permitiam construções nessas condições nessa época: trabalho com obras e hoje é inconcebível um prédio desse porte sem sistema de springlers,portas corta-fogo,escadas de incêndio com isolação e sistema de ar condicionado central... o mais cruel é que os responsáveis escaparam por serem réus primários..Concordo com os comentários abaixo que as vítimas deveriam ser lembradas e homenageadas pelo poder público,assim como os bombeiros e todos os que trabalharam salvando vidas

The both novels The Towering Inferno was based on was written a year before this fire. But these shots of Joelma disaster are really chilly - reminds me of WTC fire. I'm just wondering why did they have to add such a creepy music to this documentary...

Errado! Este vídeo foi feito por uma associação americana de prevenção a incêndios pouco depois do Joelma, ainda no ano de 1974. Nota-se que as imagens na hora do desastre são da Companhia Cinematográfica Souza Lima, do diretor brasileiro Clery Cunha, que em 1980 filmaria "Joelma 23 Andar". Sem "terceiromundismos", por favor.

I was 11 years old when the tragedy occurred. The entire Brazil stopped in horror watching the images live on TV. It was simply horrible to see people jumping from the top after choose between die by the fire or smashed on the street ground. Even today its bring me tears and sadness...

It is,but sadly fires have forced people out of windows before this and since.Hotels,factories and even schools have been sites of horrific fires. 9-11 is the worst building fire case and this was the worst before it.

 This didn't cause 9/11 but it sure brings creepy more up close,stark reminders of it. So sad..R.I.P poor people,.

The most amazing story is that some years before they build Joelma there was a house in the place. The son, a chemistry teacher, killed his mother and his two sisters and threw the bodies in a well he had built. When it was discovered, he commited suicide. The story is true and there is even photos from the house and the guy. Is it just a coincidence?

Can't you see this video is very old, from the time of the tragedy? I'm from São Paulo. The fire started with a short-circuit in an air conditioner. Four years later, it was renovated and they changed its name to Praça da Bandeira (Flag square) Building.
