@reynoldsair Obviously someone who has not followed Gingrich. This man is a conservative, and has always been one. He's not demented like some, but he's a conservative nonetheless. Anyway, to answer your question, it is where it states that the federal government will provide for the common defense. To allow China to gain the advantage in space would be a dereliction of their duty. Obviously ignorant people are giving you thumbs up on your question.

@jbranstetter04 1) So we will borrow from China in order to compete with them? China does not yet even have a blue-water navy, let alone about to conquer space. The best way to beat China is to get America's fiscal house in order. To say that government sponsored colonization of space in 8yrs at a time of fiscal crisis in the US is a 'conservative' position, makes a mockery of the very term. Kinda like saying Newt is for family values.

@B21983 We will not borrow money from China to do it. We will do it with the money taken in from income and capital gains tax. Social Security will be funded by SS tax, and Medicare by Med. tax. All other functions of the government will by funded by the first taxes I mentioned. Any money left over after military spending and the basic functions of the federal government will be spend as congress authorizes. First things come first.

@jbranstetter04 2) Calling moon colonization "common defense" and thus in line with the Constitution is like the liberals saying the interstate commerce and general welfare clauses give Congress the power to regulate basically anything in the economy b/c at some point it will impact or cross over state boundaries and impact our well being. In other words, your argument for Newt's lunar lunacy is more in line with liberal interpretation than with the conservative one.

@B21983 It's all a matter if interpretation. It can be legitimately argued that keeping Amtrak functioning is a matter of national security. The reason being that we need to keep all modes of transportation open to our military in the event that other modes are shutdown in unforeseen ways. Are you saying that us being in space is not important to national security? If so, then you don't know much.

@jbranstetter04 Sure, a lot of things can be argued legitimately -- but don't say thats small-government conservatism. Space, of course, is important to our national security. Lunar colonies at a time of huge deficits and an entitlement crisis are not.

@B21983 I'm not advocating putting resorts on the moon, or even military bases etc. I'm basically just very much against us having a blank spot in space exploration while the Chinese and Russians continue without us. Also, I'm not happy at all depending on the Russians to give us rides into space. I'm telling you that this in not good for our security. This is not 1776; we have a lot more to fear when it come to military technology. We need to stay on top of it.

@B21983 I don't say that's what he said or meant, but I'm inclined to think that he's thinking the same thing. Anyway, for a variety of reasons I don't support Gingrich for the republican nomination. But I am glad that he brings these topics up for discussion....talking never hurt anyone. What I like about Newt the most is that he brings up things that need to be debated, even if all his ideas are not the best.

Honestly I don't think the system can be fixed from within, even if Ron Paul took office he would not have the power alone to fix anything, and if he did they would probably JFK him (JFK passed executive order 11110 that would take power away from the "Federal" Reserve and put the issuing power of the monetary system back in the treasury and this angered the banksters)
