@bruins3331 Boston? No. Franchise means team. It doesn't mean every sport from the city. It's statistically proven that the Red Wings are the best franchise in history, overall, counting both skill on the team and financial/ownership organization.
Much props to Montreal though. Very good team and definitely my second favorite. Lots of cups.
@sammydems No, actually the Montreal Canadiens are the best sports franchise of all time. They have won more Stanley Cups and have had a deeper history than Detroit does. I'm not saying that I hate the Wings or anything; no they are actually my favourite team, and Pavel Datsyuk is my favourite player of all time. You just have to respect Montreal's talent and achievements over the years.
@me6098 I don't disagree that Montreal is a great franchise, but most of their cups came when there were few teams and every great player was Canadian. Detroit is consistently a contender and our players (especially Pavel Datsyuk) are trained to be high caliber. Datsyuk wasn't a first round pick like would be assumed. I think he was a 6th rounder, in fact. No disrespect to the Candiens, though, they're both a couple of teams that no one can really talk bad about.
Okay just to set the record straight here, Mickey says "Fort Street" not "4th Street". Anybody who has been downtown for a game, or any other reason for that matter, knows that Fort Street is right by the Joe.
Some say Mickey said 4th Street because it's a poker metaphor, but what sounds more likely? A Detroit reference, or a poker reference? Since this is concerning a DETROIT Red Wings game, I think it's pretty obvious.
It's amazing how relatively simple the move looks, but how effective and difficult it is. At the NHL level, goalies can't wait for the actual shot, but have to predict it based on the players body positioning. When Datsyuk raises his leg and draws the puck back, he's so convincing he has Vokoun commit entirely and with some unbelievable edge work on one foot, ends up with an empty net.
Datsyuk has done this 3 times in the NHL and once in his old league, its gone in every single time. Wow.
@gmsjr1219 The shootout against the wild, it's in the related videos. That one actually is the most impressive to me, as the goaltender didn't just fall over in the wrong direction, but Datsyuk still beat him. Not as much of a fake shot in that one, more concentration on stickhandling, but the core backhand pull/top shelf finish is there.
Anybody else here just absolutely amazed by the edge-work? I'm not very good so don't hate but I played varsity for my school for 4 years and I can't do that shit goin 75% speed.
@detroitredwings2009 actually that's not true and you'd be going nuts if omark would play in detroit.. omark happens to be one of the most skilled players in the nhl(top15 atleast) but i really did not find the idea of wiidlund to say "omark"? what's the point. both are skilled players but i can't see no omark on this vid.
@stardustie Omark is the greatest shootout specialist in the history of hockey BUT he isn't that great during games. That's exactly why he has been playing in the AHL recently.
@LocoGroove In the history of hockey? What on earth are you talking about? Not only has the shootout been around for a small number of years, there have been many players who deserve to be called shootout specialists much more so than Omark, who has made his name with juts a couple of slick moves so far.
@12OclockLow Okay, you're clearly American/Canadian so you don't know about Omarks years in Sweden. The rumour says that the last time Omark fucked up a shootout was when he was 16...he's so good.
@LocoGroove I'm Russian. Omark has already fucked up the shootout twice in 4 tries since joining the NHL. Not saying he's bad, but that rumour is obviously wrong. And if you want to talk Europe (and seeing as I know a thing or two about hockey in Russia), how about Slava Kozlov, who has been beating goalies in shootouts for years in Russia and the NHL. Notably, he has the best scoring percentage of all players in the NHL, and if we're talking shootout specialists, that's the important stat.
@stardustie i really wouldnt, datsyuk has so much more skill that omark to eb quite honest, datsyuks the most all around player in the NHL. its irritating when people bring up other players that have nothing to do with this video, omark is nothing to datsyuk
The thing is that its not actually pullling off the moves..but its making more, everytime pavel datsyuk dekes its with a new move..hes just soo creative
@James76012 Who gives a fuck? That just goes to show you how great scouts the redwings have ;) They always pick some late round nobodys and those "nobodys" turn out to be awesome players
@LocoGroove AGREED! The Wing's are masters at looking beyond the initial draft and finding the developing talent and talent potential. I always thought this about the wings... true masters from the top to the bottom.
@LocoGroove AGREED! The Wing's are masters at looking beyond the initial draft and finding the developing talent and talent potential. I always thought this about the wings... true masters from the top to the bottom.
@LocoGroove yea they just give 'em much icetime 'n' shifts so they can bring their skill up to the sky and make the crucial things happen in their game. they make the players so good by givin' responsibility. one really good example is filppula from FINLAND! :D
@LocoGroove And that is the only sports team that we michiganders have to look up to. Fuck the lions, the tigers are okay but the red wings, now thats something to be proud of.
this move and datsyuk are both great, however i have seen him do this move a LOT of times and every time people blow their shit like it's the first time it's ever been done. he wasn't the first to do it, and this isn't the first time he himself has done it.
@DeeJaySeeJay its an amazingly difficult move to do, thats why ppl are amazed, its incredibly hard to pull off, and he even does it at game speed vs dallas, dont be jealous, just enjoy it
@idontknowanothername Ahh, I just assumed the Joe was somewhere in downtown Detroit and in most cities around here, the downtown streets are numbered! Thanks for the correction. You learn something new everyday...
@MichaeIJacksonLives Lol, look at the history of the wings draft picks... lidstrom, zetty, franzen, they have all been late rounders ^_^. Why they are one of the best teams in the league, year in year out.
im a wings fan, & i play hockey. you know what makes his signature goal? His left foot, its unnatural for a left handed shot to turn his left foot on the inside, & thats what he does, screws the goalies right up. Gotta love this guy, he might not be the top scorer of the league, but in my opinion, hes the most exciting to watch in the NHL
@erick19682001 exactly! good eyes my friend. everyone thinks its his stick work...which is still impressive. But this is datsyuks signature move because anyone else who tries to attempt this exact move as well as pavel does it will prolly break their ankle or something

The players of the league say its an amazing goal and ill take there word for it. Seeing as they are the best players in the world they probably know more about what makes a goal amazing than the rest of us.
He didn't embarrass him. Datsyuk is one of the best ever in the shootout. One of a kind. Vokoun has nothing to be ashamed of. And this is coming from a preds fan and i'm not ashamed to say datsyuk is a straight up legit beast
@slickrick8981 its too bad, you obviously dont know the rul at all, since its the player who cant move backwards. nice try though, good luck next time you try to troll an amazing goal
@slickrick8981 lol you can do that, your BODY cant move backwards, as to skate back. If you couldn't move the puck back than how would you take a wrist shot?
absolutely ridiculous. the only thing more impressive than this is the fact that he actually did in against dallas during live game action and not in a shootout
the goalies just bite to early for the fake shot but it looks so real its crazy. vokoun was way to deep also look how far he is in the paint by the end of it
why do goalies even bother standing in net when Datsyuk lines up for the shootout. You might as well let him have the empty net and sit on the bench that way it is a little less embarrassing
freakin goose bumps everytime I watch that goal

He didn't embarrass him. Datsyuk is one of the best ever in the shootout. One of a kind. Vokoun has nothing to be ashamed of. And this is coming from a preds fan and i'm not ashamed to say datsyuk is a straight up legit beast

too bad the move is illegal as he clearly moves the puck backwards twice

@slickrick8981 too bad the move is legal as he clearly remains moving forward the whole time.
Rms3434 1 year ago
@slickrick8981 his body keeps moving forward and that is what matters
bpm1313 1 year ago
@slickrick8981 its too bad, you obviously dont know the rul at all, since its the player who cant move backwards. nice try though, good luck next time you try to troll an amazing goal
KINGxxBLUMPKIN 1 year ago
@slickrick8981 lol you can do that, your BODY cant move backwards, as to skate back. If you couldn't move the puck back than how would you take a wrist shot?

absolutely ridiculous. the only thing more impressive than this is the fact that he actually did in against dallas during live game action and not in a shootout

it's crazy how easy Datsyuk makes it look
barbarian92 1 year ago
the goalies just bite to early for the fake shot but it looks so real its crazy. vokoun was way to deep also look how far he is in the paint by the end of it
Infamousfighter16 1 year ago
why do goalies even bother standing in net when Datsyuk lines up for the shootout. You might as well let him have the empty net and sit on the bench that way it is a little less embarrassing

I PULLED THIS OFF 2NITE 1st time trying it... ( didnt do it again.. ) BUT TO SEE THE EMPTY NET JUST STAIRING U IN THE FACE... IS FUCKEN AWESOME!
