I don't think he ever stopped caring about Riku (I haven't finished KH 1 yet so I'm working by what my KH fetish friend has told me about it using great detail) because the only reason he agreed to travel with Donald and Goofy wasbecause they said they'd help him find his friends.

I LOVE Riku! Most people hate him but I'd join darkness to save one of my friends too and I think Sora is kinda selfish in the first game he kinda stops caring about Riku.
