@AryanMithra Sorry you feel that way because it's unnecessary. Babylonians, Sumerians, Akkadians, and Assyrians are all Mesopotamians. Interesting how some wish to always divide ...
@AryanMithra What are you denying here? I dont really understand. Assyrians are related to Babylonians, that is a fact. Babylonians spoke Assyrian. The Sumerians were non-Semitic, that is true and they did influence the later Semites. But fact is that Assyrians improved on the Sumerians and created the first empire in the world. Their civilization has been very influential. For instance, the culture and political framwork of the Persians was a copy of the Assyrians.
So sad to see the ignorance of modern people... Assyrians/Babylonians = Akkadians. Those are the same ethnic people, that split to different titles to occupy larger territory in the Levant. Sumerians are a diff ethnicity, before the time of Assyro/Babylonians. But they are forever one people of today, mixed with same Mesopotamian blood.
If you read the history about King Sargon of Akkad who is before Babylonian, it says that when the queen find the baby in the basket than, she took him and she take care of him and she put his name Sargon, because it was Assyrian name. Please if somebody doesn't know about the History don't take
Wow, you're ridiculously ignorant. With all the time you waste commenting erroneously on youtube, you could've easily googled the ancient history of the Fertile Crescent to reach the conclusion that Assyrians/Babylonians are one people who split from north (Assyria) to south (Babylon) to conquer massive plots of the eastern Mediterranean. Sumerians are their ancestors, and today, their collectively known as Assyrians. I'm sure you didn't know that, either.
@ReneeSonoma you're also pathetic. I'll group you in with the comments I directed at "Manhatten." I'm not Greek. I don't have multiple accounts. You're just a racist who can't come to grips with the fact that not everyone is as ignorant as you are and who is obviously VERY insecure about his own cultural identity. Very, very, very sad... grow up.
Assyrians and Israelites didn't look like Dubai royalties... although they are all Semitic. They have similar characteristics: thick hair, large eyes, but wealth/coloring/geopolitical differences/cultures are evidently different.
Today, Assyrians are still very exotic looking (love Assyrians/Armenians!), and preserve their culture very well.
As a Polish-Irish man, I grew up in a heavily Catholic household. Often read the Bible, and go to Church. I've learned about religion in my Catholic elementary/high school, and have been taught by my pastors, historians, and professors that Assyrians- the Semitic Christians- were the foundation of Christianity, as stated in Bible. Also, it was the Assyrians, not Muslims that desecrated the Jews for their sinful ways, as He had chosen the Assyrians to do so: Christianity Initiation. God Bless!
@myASSYRIANpride I did NOT say anything about anyone spreading the word of God!!!!! To be frank I DO NOT CARE!!!!! I said EMBRACE.....and it is a well known fact that the Armenians were the first to EMBRACE Christianity!!!!!!
Get that pathetic greek loser with multiple accounts out of here! It's just comical when an ignorant greek is spamming 10 peoples comments that disagree with his gay culture, while liking his own comments.
hey I'm perfectly relaxed. My original comments which have been spammed with so many hate votes down that most of them are invisible were extremely reasonable, intelligent, and well-considered. Because of those comments I've been attacked by racist idiots who think I am greek, ignorant fools who think I am uneducated, and other unsavory types. It's quite pathetic and laughable but I certainly didn't start it. I would have been much happier to find civilized discourse.
@Assyrian333 yes, clearly. *Some* people are just extremely insecure. I enjoy intellectual discussion of history, anthropology, etc. My hope was to spark some of that... oh well...
thanks for the thumbs up.
and if these dorks actually read all my comments before they thumbed me down and starting launching spittle everywhere, they would have seen that I clarified that if you include ALL civs of Mesopotamia and the Levant under the tent "Assyrian", then I agree with their inclusion.
Most are upset bc youve used more than one account, claiming not to be greek, making identical comments with similar ugly greek rhetoric. Get over yourself, loser. Clearly, nobody is interested in the greek history of gays, and females looking like men!
@Manhatten312 You're so pathetic. If you people were actually so proud of your history, then you would not be acting this insecure. It's extremely insecure and pathetic (and racist and homophobic) to accuse me of being Greek (I'm not, so what?) or homosexual (I'm not, again, so what?) simply because I question putting the Assyrian Empire on the list of history's greatest. A real man comfortable and secure and confident would say, "oh really? I disagree." NOT "f you! you Greek fag!!!" Pathetic..
You, along with the others your arguing with, need to get a grip! Greeks may have started gays, and Assyrians may be the the cradle of civilization, but this petty bickering is just nonsensical.
Also, a real man doesn't need to define what a "real man" is. A real man knows for himself, and doesn't have to continue the name calling to justify it, as you've displayed. The point made of you being Greek/gay is irrelevant. You are what you are!
@Pazuzu773 It is irrelevant, as I clearly stated. So why did you feel the need to say it a second time? I'm not bickering. I'm not calling names. I'm calling a spade a spade and saying basically the same thing that you just repeated.

God Bless the Assyrians... what a phenomenal empire. The uniqueness of Assyria is it's history is taught in the most prestigious of Universities around the world, in the Bible, the Torah, the Quran, and their inventions are surrounded and used by us everywhere we look.
To Kalb: Assyrians were the most militaristic people in ancient Biblical times, as they conquered the largest span of the Mediterranean/Middle East region. How are you American and not taught this in basic HS education? Shame.
LOL- what an ignorant Greek. We've got a Brazilian, a European, and two Americans trying to teach you such basic History lessons, and yet you still expose your apathetic ignorance. keep your ugly folks in your fiscally-stricken Socialist party cave... ! Greeks/Albanians... less please!

@andonaki2 poverty in America is not having premium cable and having to settle for a used minivan instead of buying a new one. A tiny fraction of Americans are impoverished the way that you see poverty in Africa, India, SE Asia, etc. Americans just whine a lot, and they also are very frank about their own failings and don't try to hide negative statistics. Things may get worse there if greed continues to dominate the political landscape but as of right now they're still damn good, comparatively.
I guess this is the greatest civs in antiquity? China is definitely up there they have stood the test of time like no other. Greece, for their lasting contributions to Western Civilization, also def up there. Rome, for having the single greatest empire in history up through modernity, and also for their lasting contributions. Egypt is more questionable if you are looking at all time, IMO. They had a great run thousands of years ago. But Assyria? I guess the poster is a little biased.. ?
I'd probably delete Egypt and Assyria and put in the UK and the USA for top 5. UK for its total global dominance and gigantic empire during the industrial revolution, and the USA because the US enjoys a cultural, militaristic, and economic GLOBAL hegemony the likes of which no other civilization in history has ever come close. Top 10 I would put back in Egypt, India, France, Japan, and... either Spain, Persia, or the Arab Caliphs. Assyria maybe in the top 20. Depends on how you define Assyrian.
okay I read your description and it's more clear. You are including many different disparate civs under the big tent of "Assyrian".. the Babylonians, Sumerians, and other civs of Mesopotamia, I assume the Phoenicians and other peoples of the Levant as well. and in modernity I guess you are including all those within "greater Syria" as my Syrian friend puts it. Well, under this huge umbrella I guess yes, they deserve top 10 or top 5... but I think most people think of these civs as separate.
Education will only teach what civilizations are pertinent to modern civility. UK? America? Sure, let's add Brazil there too, since we're a third world country without any dependence on foreign aid for inter-diplomatic issues. Perhaps where you live, you were not taught such basic history. Inventions of primitive age (Mesopotamia would be Assyria... since you seem oblivious to it) are inventions we thrive on today. Assyrians were the cradle of civilization, as is universally known.
@Jaco773 yes and don't you think that what is relevant to the modern world- those civilizations that have stood the test of time and made lasting contributions- should count for something? I'm not oblivious to anything, as I already clarified, most intelligent and educated people would think of the Assyrian Empire as separate from Babylon, Sumeria, et cetera. Mesopotamia is commonly called the cradle of civilization, even though civilization arose independently in many other places.
Sumerians, Babylonians, and Assyrians are descendants of one another. Mesopotamia is the Cradle of Civilization, and is universally known bc in NO OTHER place did civ. exist. No other 'civilizations' were trading, building cities (Assur/Nineveh Plains among first city states), writing/multilingual/etc.
In Brazil, our most basic educ. level teaches such history fundamentals. For those that doubt history text books, Bible/Torah/Quran all teach of Assyrians/Egyptians/Israeli's.
@Jaco773 then Brazil has some very strange history books because none of the hundreds of history books I've read ever counted these civilizations as the same. Maybe if I was Syrian, and had a horrible inferiority complex and was very insecure, and needed to believe that my own life had some kind of value based on the achievements of people dead for thousands of years.. then I might also try to merge all these civilizations together to try and make my own people look better by pooling resources.?
You're a typical Greek. As barbaric as they get. I lived in Germany, as I went to school in Dusseldorf. All the prestigious museums throughout Germany, UK, Sweden, and Switzerland heavily focus on ancient Assyrian artifacts and medical/legal/architectural/etc. foundations.
Please refrain from further reassuring us of your limited intelligence. It doesn't reflect well on an already unpleasant Greek. I'm from a third-world country and have more civility than you've demonstrated.

P.S.... all of you Greeks/Assyrians/ anybody else trying to win pissing contests against each other... you're a bunch of babies. Grow up. Jeez. People from this area of the world (Balkans, Anatolia, Levant, Middle East) hold a grudge like no other. It's ridiculous. Who cares who killed who a hundred years ago???
This comment isn't directed just as Jaco... but for some reason I was having trouble leaving a general comment so I had to pick something to reply to.
LOL- that's ignorant biased Lib talk... if it were true, we wouldn't be the richest people, country, and military in the World. Get over yourself Comme!
Wow- another ignorant Greek to come across. Your rhetoric above exemplifies how "civilized" you are. LOL
I'm American, and we certainly don't care for Greeks. You can take your hideous people back. We'll keep the Assyrians and Italians here. Jaco773- I have a Brazilian bud who tells me that Italians and Assyrians (Assyrians from Lebanon) are part of the majority demographic there. Where can I find more info regarding it?
Love to all Assyrians, and Egyptians from America!
Sex isn't an invention, fool! What country are you from that such ignorance exists? How could I be jealous when I am none of the ethnic backgrounds mentioned? I'm ethnically Italian from Brazil, but studied in the States and Germany. Assyriology is taught in Ivy League and World-Class institutions for those who seek worthy education status;
Clearly you're not American, because you seem to be either uneducated or undereducated... so I will end this rant with you.
Greeks weren't long before Jesus; Bible wasn't written in Greece, fool; language of Jesus Christ is Aramaic (Syriac Aramaic spoken by SEMITIC Assyrians); there was no such thing as Greek Orthodox during that time; Orthodoxy-yes, which started in Syriac East... hence most Assyrians are Orthodox, and minority are Catholics.
Greeks aren't Semites, they're not from ancient times as the Assyrians, Egyptians, and Israelites. Greeks contributed to Assyrian foundations (med, law, arch...)
Assyria is long before the rest. It should be Assyria, Egypt, Persia, China... the Assyrians and Egyptians being the most ancient peoples ever recorded. Assyrians were before Jesus Christ, and for they were the foundation of the largest religion today.
What would a dumb Malaka know?! Thank God we have lots of Assyrian beauties here in Brazil!!

you should always consentrate on iraq more than any other land in this world.

No civilization comes close to being as great as the ancient Assyrians... May God Bless You All... For He chose the Assyrians to disperse Christianity.
@Jaco773 And GOD told you this, did HE? Keep thinking this way and your countries will sink into the darkness even further....open your eyes and you might see the light of progress!!!!!!!!
@Jaco773 Go to church and become a hypocrite? NO THANK YOU!!!! I never go to church and i am a better Christian than most and you know why? Because i put my feelings about fellow humans and nature in general into action. That means i DO NOT JUST TALK ABOUT IT!!!!! And it seems that most of the world knows that the Armenians were the first to embrace Christianity except you...YES I KNOW JESUS TOLD YOU!!!!!
@kenyuan1 Assyrian is a very advanced ancient civilization that existed in ancient Mesopotamia (present day Northern Iraq and Southern Turkey). The Empire lasted from 1980 B.C. - 609 B.C. ... It was the most advanced and powerful empire with the most professional army in ancient times until a collaboration between Babylonians, Medians and Elamites sacked the major cities of Assyria thus Awsyria fell.... [Continued]...
@kenyuan1 ...[Continued] ... Although the Assyrian Empire fell more than 2000 years ago, the Assyrian people still exist until our day, they now mainly live in Iraq, Southern Turkey, Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon, and there are many Assyrian communities in the west, especially in Sweden... You probably heard of Ishtar, or Ashur, these are Assyrian deities. You also probably heard of Samiramis, she's an Assyrian queen... Ancient Assyrians created siege weapons along many other things.
@kenyuan1 ...[Continued] ... Assyrians were of course pagan, until in the 3rd century A.D. they adopted Christianity, and they were the first people to adopt Christianity as a nation. Assyrians are still Christian until today and are a non Arab half semetic group of people now living as a minority in their own homeland, which is now "politically" labeled are part of the Arab world. Assyrians speak the Aramaic/Assyrian language.... Hope you found this useful... Cheers!
@OmnipotentUnknown I believe Assyrians are fully Semitic, unless an Assyrian speaks English or other non-Semitic languages as his/her mother-language. Speaking Aramaic, Arabic, Amharic, or Hebrew as a mother-language makes a person a complete Semite!
Being Semitic was never about biology, and so is being an Aryan.
@satoofi93 No, Assyrians are a mix between Sumerians and Semitic immigrants from Yemen. Sumerians were NOT Semitic people, and still they're not sure were they originated from until our day. When the Semites started migrating from Yemen, some reached Mesopotamia and Inter-married with the Sumerians, to for Akkadians (and hence Assyrians, Babylonians and Chaldeans)... Being Semetic is both about biology and language. And oh, Aryans are not Germanic, they're from Iran, Afghanistan, and so... :)
@OmnipotentUnknown ... Spelling correction to make things clear (Letter missing): "... Semites started migrating from Yemen, some reached Mesopotamia and Inter-married with the Sumerians, to FORM Akkadians (and hence Assyrians, Babylonians..." ... Cheers!
That's not true... historically speaking, Assyrians were the first to embrace and disseminate Christianity. It states so in most prestigious historical texts, as well as the bible (I'm guessing you've never read it), that states Jesus saying Assyrians, the people of his hand, will circulate the Christian beliefs.
@Harsh19911 don't equate india and Assyria by putting them in the same sentence. Thank you.
Mesopotamian + Greek civilizations changed the world, their contributions in all fields of technology/sciences, language, art, and architecture were nothing less than amazing.
raflle and satoofi i agree with u both. Arabs made numbers (i think) and Mesopotamia, u said it. Greek is not major but at least it made democracy. Rome is not one of the best because they mostly copied but they did have some contributions. Egypt, they had some too. China just had silk and what not, also getting owned by Genghis Khan with a bunch of cavalry and keshiks. Assyria was military tacticians, but not great. And by the Assyria did not make the gardens, it was Nebuchadnezzar.
Chna weren't the only one's.Mongols also conquered civilizations from east europe, central asia and middleast.Than you have his decendants timurids and mughals who are prouduct of mongoloid/caucasoid people who conquered civilizations of middleast and south asia. Also rome and half of europe were also conquered by cultureless nomadic calvary such as huns, khazars, avars, magyars yet again all were some kind of nomadic hybrid race of mongoloid/caucasoid.
@creamoffish You are a ball of intelligence!!!!!!!!!! BRAVO....you know, opinions are like assholes.....everybody has one.....if you insist that Greece and Egypt were not major civilisations you are a moronic dolt!!!!! Numbers were invented by the Phoenicians who were eradicated by the Arabs and no longer exist as such. Try and find out the meaning of each number ( why the symbol 1 represents a unit) and you might learn something!!!!
According to latest studies the greatest and most advanced civilization is somewhere in south America .... they were more advanced than the Egyptians ...they had even a landing space for ...who knows . . .
I have seen the 2008 Olympic and 2009 Chinese Military parade on Tiananmen Square. I could see the pride of these great ancient civilizations again. Go watch these on youtube and see for yourself.
Hope the turks & japs are trembling now for supporting the breakup of China.
You may be true. THey have recently found ancient civilizations in WEST AFRICA far away from Egypt. Researchers compare these findings, with Mesopotamia. But, you can not say it started in Africa, when you know that Mesopotamia has been civilized possibly as much as 10,000 years now. We can agree that both were civilized way before the Englishmen for instance, who think they civilized the world.
You don't even know anything about Mesopotamia and it's surroundings do you?
Ancient artifacts exactly like those in Egypt have been found there, which predate the EGyptian ones with thousands of years. THis is not a competition, it's the truth. Assyrians have been a nation for ALMOST 7,000 years now, that's even older than the EGyptian existence isn't it? FInd a nation which can even come near 7,000 years. You know too little about Mesopotamia to say it's not the craddle of civilization.
Many people forget, that Greece, Rome and Egypt adopted so much from Assyria/Babylonia (Mesopotamia). Without Mesopotamia, we would probably not witness a civilized Greece, Rome etc.
And the ancient sites in and around Mesopotamia predates Egyptian and other civilizations with thousands of years. The Sphinx for instance have been found in Anatolia, but a version that is thousands of years older than those in Egypt. Mesopotamia = Accepted by historians as craddle of civilization.
Mesopotamia invented writing, imperialism, wheel, plough, law, algebra, architecture (they built ziggurats before Greece ever existed), division of time we use to day, the 7-days week, calendar, and list goes on and on and Mesopotamia still is most contributing ancient civilization.
@satoofi93 Greeks invented the art of cartography which means map chartis The catapult which will eventually become the most lethal weapon for more than a thousand years Geometry from the Greek geo for earth and metria for measure streets crossbow showers astrolabe lighthouse alarm clock cannon chain drive Levers water mill air and water pumps ANALOG COMPUTERS(150BC) vending machine(1c) clock tower automatic doors theater and many mathematic medical inventions there are many great cvlzations..
Ayssyria, Egypt, China, Greece and Italy must form a G5 aka Great 5 Ancient Civilization Alliance. G5 will civilize the "Western" barbarians.

God Bless!

Depends on how you define Assyrian.
kalbahamut 1 year ago 4
okay I read your description and it's more clear. Well, under this huge umbrella I guess yes, they deserve top 10 or top 5... but I think most people think of these civs as separate.
kalbahamut 1 year ago

@kalbahamut
Jaco773 1 year ago
@Jaco773 yes and don't you think that what is relevant to the modern world- those civilizations that have stood the test of time and made lasting contributions- should count for something? I'm not oblivious to anything, as I already clarified, most intelligent and educated people would think of the Assyrian Empire as separate from Babylon, Sumeria, et cetera. Mesopotamia is commonly called the cradle of civilization, even though civilization arose independently in many other places.
kalbahamut 1 year ago

@kalbahamut

@kenyuan1 Assyrian is a very advanced ancient civilization that existed in ancient Mesopotamia (present day Northern Iraq and Southern Turkey). The Empire lasted from 1980 B.C. - 609 B.C. ... It was the most advanced and powerful empire with the most professional army in ancient times until a collaboration between Babylonians, Medians and Elamites sacked the major cities of Assyria thus Awsyria fell.... [Continued]...
OmnipotentUnknown 1 year ago
@kenyuan1 ...[Continued] ... Although the Assyrian Empire fell more than 2000 years ago, the Assyrian people still exist until our day, they now mainly live in Iraq, Southern Turkey, Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon, and there are many Assyrian communities in the west, especially in Sweden... You probably heard of Ishtar, or Ashur, these are Assyrian deities. You also probably heard of Samiramis, she's an Assyrian queen... Ancient Assyrians created siege weapons along many other things.
OmnipotentUnknown 1 year ago
@kenyuan1 ...[Continued] ... Cheers!
OmnipotentUnknown 1 year ago
@OmnipotentUnknown I believe Assyrians are fully Semitic, unless an Assyrian speaks English or other non-Semitic languages as his/her mother-language. Speaking Aramaic, Arabic, Amharic, or Hebrew as a mother-language makes a person a complete Semite!
Being Semitic was never about biology, and so is being an Aryan.
satoofi93 1 year ago
@satoofi93 No, Assyrians are a mix between Sumerians and Semitic immigrants from Yemen. Sumerians were NOT Semitic people, and still they're not sure were they originated from until our day. When the Semites started migrating from Yemen, some reached Mesopotamia and Inter-married with the Sumerians, to for Akkadians (and hence Assyrians, Babylonians and Chaldeans)... Being Semetic is both about biology and language. And oh, Aryans are not Germanic, they're from Iran, Afghanistan, and so... :)

You may be true. THey have recently found ancient civilizations in WEST AFRICA far away from Egypt. Researchers compare these findings, with Mesopotamia. But, you can not say it started in Africa, when you know that Mesopotamia has been civilized possibly as much as 10,000 years now. We can agree that both were civilized way before the Englishmen for instance, who think they civilized the world.
donthakiller 2 years ago
You don't even know anything about Mesopotamia and it's surroundings do you?
Ancient artifacts exactly like those in Egypt have been found there, which predate the EGyptian ones with thousands of years. THis is not a competition, it's the truth. Assyrians have been a nation for ALMOST 7,000 years now, that's even older than the EGyptian existence isn't it? FInd a nation which can even come near 7,000 years. You know too little about Mesopotamia to say it's not the craddle of civilization.
donthakiller 2 years ago 5
Many people forget, that Greece, Rome and Egypt adopted so much from Assyria/Babylonia (Mesopotamia). Without Mesopotamia, we would probably not witness a civilized Greece, Rome etc.
And the ancient sites in and around Mesopotamia predates Egyptian and other civilizations with thousands of years. The Sphinx for instance have been found in Anatolia, but a version that is thousands of years older than those in Egypt. Mesopotamia = Accepted by historians as craddle of civilization.
