  • well we are getting blamed because everyone knew!

  • I'm soooooo distracted by Issac's mysterious square pant buldge. couldn't take my eyes off it.......lol. Whaddaya think it is?

  • @vetdetta pack of cigarettes

  • @alexshort14 ha ha, guess so :D

  • lol he is always haveing trouble with his guitars, i saw them in 07 in sd and he somehow wacked himself in the head with one

  • @gotit099 hah its most likely because he's so violent with them.

  • I'm seeing them soooooooon :D

  • @MrTastytoes me too! tonight!

  • Thank you Dewey! = D

  • happy bday nalleli!!!! you know whats up. these guys are the best!!

  • God how I wish my fav band didn't have such retarded fans

  • in my thoughts best band ever

  • Modest mouse does some of the best live performances around

  • PINGGGGG PONNGGGGG

  • Broke a string, got a new guitar, and plugged back in in less than 20 seconds. Amazing.

To think that up until Good News, I didn't know who the hell these guys were. I'm glad that they bounced back with the new EP, We Were Dead was pretty bad.

  • Dude, I'm not trying to be an asshole, but you know that the EP is actually B-sides from Good News and We Were Dead, right? I mean, even the vinyl edition of Good News has "I've got it all (most)". I think everything Modest Mouse has done is miraculous and beautiful, but y'know, that's just me...

  • @SummerLandMan Yes, I'm quite aware, Actually, I had made this comment after only listening to it for the first time. I had barely skimmed through the song list. Still, I found this to be a lot more enjoyable than We Were Dead. The comment field here is cut in half, so I apologize for any typos.

  • @Somestupidloser, oh I getcha dude. Yeah I didn't catch that at first. But it really is a good EP, and it is fair to say it has it's own texture!

  • god, what i would give to have a crew that is that efficient. wish i had a fuckin crew. hahahaha

  • best live band. my opinion

  • Holy crap :) loved it

  • omg this is one of my favorite songs in the world !

    Great video ;*

  • Thats awesome... he totally did break that shit... Isaac is amazing, got the new guitar in there instantly

  • i like his old custom built guitar better anyways

  • I fucking love you Modest!!! Put on an AMAZING show in chi-town on 8.25... i got a couple vids you should all check from there

  • So I'm guessing Isaac broke a string at 2:32. It's pretty sweet that the crew had a spare guitar all ready to go.

  • this sounds better than anything on "we were dead". maybe i can fall back in love

  • for some reason i really like when he says happy halloween.

but, modest mouse is one of my favorite bands and i love no one's first and you're next.

    bahhhh

    and i love this song.

  • yesssssss

  • Does anybody know the chords for this?

  • im SO sad with myself i didnt know this song when i saw them that night =/

  • How would you know? It's the first performance. No one knew it.

  • im just sayin i wish i wouldve known cuz it makes the performance that much better when u do so u can sing along and shit

  • this is so much better than the studio version

  • i think this is the best song on their new album. one of their best in a while. one of the greatest bands of our generation

  • this is my favorite mouse song of all time and it is a b-side..? im dissapointed in myself

  • man im so excited for their new material

  • Its hilarious that you guys are debating who's a bigger modest mouse fan and who's more intelligent and deserving of being a fan. Youre 12 years old, end of story. In my opinion if you dont love MM youre an idiot, so that makes me a fan.

  • beyond agreed...

  • Personally I think whoever's debating about being a bigger fan is considered a poser. Like seriously, Modest Mouse has been my favorite band since I actually really liked music, but I know for sure there are always going to be bigger and better fans. There's always someone who is more into it than you or me.

  • Such a good description of my own views, as well. I liked Modest Mouse when Good News came out. Figured that I liked them as much as any other band, but I just still like them. For some reason, their music never seems to get old or I never tire of it...either way...MM ftw!

  • MM FTW!!!!!!

  • "I Say So" and "Ugly Casanova" are brilliant tracks. Same with "This Is Real Life" and "Buttons To Push The Buttons." I even think "Leaflets Gabe" has something going for it, but that's just me.

  • haha when i found leaflets gabe i was stoked cuz that was my name

  • What about the Fruit that ate itself? or everywhere and his nasty parlor tricks? and i know Baron is a live album. not a random collection..and i thought that Building Nothing was an album...and a great one at that...and i didnt think that Sad Sappy was random at all...i thought it was all of the songs from the ep blue cadet three do you connect? along with some others to make it their first album...but idk for sure...i was just thinking...and i think they have a few more live albums too...

  • Fruit That Ate Itself and Everywhere And His Nasty Parlor Tricks are EPs. You're right about Baron, Building Nothing, and Sad Sappy Sucker.

They only have 1 live album.

  • nineinchsin stop being an ass ......if the guy knows all there albums then my guess he is a fan (modestmouse1207)

  • well, most can't even get the number of albums right in the first place (5 studio albums), don't know why Sad Sappy Sucker got held back (they abandoned the project b/c they didn't like it), know their first label (Up Records), know when they were formed (1993), name all the EPs (Blue Cadet-3, Do You Connect?, Interstate 8, The Fruit That Ate Itself, Night on the Sun, Everywhere And His Nasty Parlour Tricks, and upcoming No One's First & You're Next). Building Nothing... is a compiltation btw

  • Ah man, i really like this song really really awsome!

  • they can listen if they want but they shouoldn't parade around as fans...just casual listeners

  • none of you are real modest mouse fans...that's kind of funny. sad part is you will never be real modest mouse fans (and the reason is not something obvious btw so don't even try and guess) (with your low IQs it is probably improbable that you would have to hazard a guess that is even close to being close) Your all fleeting specks in the Modest Mouse audience (especially ModestMouse1207and gens420). It just better for you to stop listening to MM and save yourself the trouble of acting foolish.

  • yeah, like people you don't like shouldn't be allowed to listen to the same music you like because you have better reasons for liking them...

  • I'm much more of a fan then you are. I know all of their albums and EP's. And soon enough I'm going to get 2 unreleased tapes Isaac made in his shed before their Sad Sappy Sucker days.

  • does having more stuff make you more of a fan? :\

  • No. But at least I'll get more Modest Mouse music.

  • True. Very True. I am very jealous man. Lucky you!

  • I can give you the website to the forum.

  • What songs are on the tapes?

I'm also quite a fan. I need to buy more of their albums though. . . .

I only have WWD and M & A. Those were the only ones left in the store I went to when I saw them. . . .

'I Say So' and 'Ugly Casanova' are good rare tracks.

  • Really? My music store has all of their albums besides We Were Dead, and a few EP's.

I'll send you a message of the songs since there's not enough space to type them all in.

  • You're lucky in that respect. I desperately want Interstate-8, because it has some great songs on it (including Edit the Sad Parts, my favorite Modest Mouse song)- that and BNOOS would have me mostly content.

  • You could always buy them off of the internet.

  • True . .I probably will - though I may have to resort to eBay D:

Oh well, that's worth it for a Modest Mouse album.

  • Ebay usually has them cheap at least.

  • 'The Lonesome Crowded West' is one of my favorites..very sparse and raw-sounding. Definitely check it out. 'Good News' is definitely more radio-friendly, but has some excellent guitar work, and holds a special spot in my heart, because "Bury Me With It" was the song that first got me hooked on them :)

  • I've listened to every song on LCW.

And every song on Good News.

    And every song on tialdfswntta.

    And every song on M & A.

    And every song on WWD.

And every song they've released from nofayn.

    And all of their EPs.

But I really need to buy some of them. . . .

  • This song is BAD. ASS.

  • Really? Even The Whale Song? Weak.

  • id have to disagree completely

    they are insanely great.

    especially this song

i think your the only one hating on them

    :)

  • love it there comming out with there new cd soon i cant wait

  • AAAHHHH I cant wait til they come out with a new cd

  • I was at this show. It was great.

  • It's great when Isaac's guitar breaks. He just looks at Eric Judy once, like "dude, my guitar fucked up" And Judy's like "oh, solo time" They jelled so perfectly there, not to mention the acoustic to bass switch that was actually planned.

  • How do you know his guitar broke?

  • it obviously had a broken string

  • Great. Brilliant. Really, there is no other way of putting it.

Although, I did notice they left out a part in this life performance.

"We said all along we deserved every bit, but mostly we knew that the surprise would quit

But we got going and going and just away with it

    Til everybody lost their minds

Directly behind me and ahead of the time, but don't you worry it'll fall right in line

Yep, everything's just fine, fine, fine

No one's getting blamed this time" was left out.

  • Soi much better than Satellite Skin

  • They just keep putting out amazing songs...

  • This live version is so much better than the studio version. I don't think that it has the same effect acoustic.

  • this actually sounds like their older stuff! i hope they start to go back to "indie" not mainstream stuff like WWDBTSES

  • Agreed, there was some good stuff on that album but it didn't stand up on further listens. That said, March On was bitching. Good News - was their best album.

  • i love every single song on good news, for people who love bad news, of course. for the most part. i wasnt all that crayz about this devils workday, but other than that i loved it

  • Are you fucking high? Good News was not their best album, not even top 5.

  • It's an opinion you fuck head. So shurrt up.

  • The Moon & Antarctica, This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About, Lonesome Crowded West, Building Nothing Out Of Something, and Sad Sappy Sucker are all better and thats only including albums, not EP's.

Have you ever heard any of them? I'm being serious, not a jackass.

  • are you high, they only have 5 albums, so do some research before you try and act like a guru, i hope a cocker spaniel jizzes in your face to make up for you stupidity

  • Let's see:

This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About, Lonesome Crowded West, Building Nothing Out Of Something, The Moon & Antarctica, Sad Sappy Sucker, Baron Von Bullshit, Good News For People Who Love Bad News, We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank.

    I counted 8 dumb ass.

  • Sad Sappy Suckers, Baron Von Bullshit and Building Nothing are all collections of random songs not albums

  • Are you stupid? Sad Sappy Sucker was suppose to be their debut but got held back for reasons I can't remember. Baron Von Bullshit Rides Again is a live ALBUM. And Building Nothing Out Of Something is a compilation ALBUM.

Fuck you're definitely one of the stupidest Modest Mouse fans I've met.

  • Lol that acronym is ridiculous. WWDBTSES. GNFPWLBN. TIALDFSWNTTA. OK, that one wins.

  • Comment removed

  • Wait, never mind, just got it...This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About

  • i love the names of Modest Mouse's songs!

  • So true. However in my opinion this title is one of the weaker ones. Guilty Cocker Spaniels? That's just plain weird. Just think of titles like Satin in a Coffin or March into the sea. ;)

  • well that's what I would like about their titles, they are weird and creative and sometimes have no relevance to song (as far I might know)....my favorite title would have to be "talking shit about a pretty sunset"!

  • is it just them three....were are the other dudes?

  • This is really fun to play on guitar if any one has the time figure out how to play it by ear or look up the tab you wont regret it.

  • yeah its great the first time i heard it i had to.

  • i saw thatx

    :;;;;]]

    xD

    <3

  • Also notice that Isaac plays his solo while Eric switches his acoustic with his bass. Eric looks at the drummer to tell him that he's ready. This song seems like it's a lot of work to play, it incorporates so many different sounds that they have to switch guitars in the middle of the song.

  • his guitar fucked up. on him. listen to it.

  • Notice right before Isaac switches guitars he looks at Eric Judy. Judy goes on to play his bass solo and keep the melody while Isaac switches guitars. I think he did break a string or something and he had to switch guitars. It takes a lot of talent and teamwork between all band members to pull this of without being detected by the audience.

  • Yeah i was wondering why Isaac switched guitars also. My ears aren't too good at detecting the *fuckedupness* of the sound but i thought he was switching to his banjo or something. Kinda threw me off for a second but i agree that it might have been a popped string.

  • Hmm..... I wonder why Isaac changes guitars in the middle of the song. Anyone know?

  • It starts to sound fucked up right before he switches them. Perhaps he broke a string.

  • its gonna be really damn hard to get the vinyl, >:(

  • I'm waiting for the new Sattelite Skin single to come in the mail but I don't have a turntable. Do you know what the best kind to get for the best price?

  • Is the new EP only out on vinyl?

  • I think it will be on CD as well but I'm not sure. I know the Satellite Skin single will only be vinyl.

  • and mp3

  • oh yeah, that's right, it'll be available on itunes as well. And that comes with Guilty Cocker Spaniels too (so does the vinyl)

  • I didn't realise old Isaacs arms were so suspiciously skinny. amazing though

  • this was a sick concert

  • The studio version is great, but this just rapes. I think all their songs are better live though.

  • Oh shit! Havent seen them have jam like that since lonesome. Great!!

  • i like this new series of songs alot

  • Studio version is on sterogum's website today. It's better than WWD but still not as good as their older stuff =/ I still like it.

  • this version is much better than the studio version unfortunately

  • at first i thought it was some "holla-back girl" parody

  • WOW it gets better with every time I listen to it. Sounds a bit like a song from this is a long drive..

  • i hear that one. at the beginning it's almost like a mix between 'beach side property' and 'space travel is boring' to me. then a rip jam that turns into a sweet fucking arrangement!

  • more like long drive lounge and closing time to me

  • I didn't like Satellite Skin. At All. BUT MY GOSH THIS SOUDS GREAT!!!!! I WANT THE EP NOW <333

  • Oddly enough, I didn't like Satellite Skin live, but the studio version is pretty damn awesome. I was at this show, and this song is great LIVE, but the studio version is a lot more mellow. . .

Both ended up growing on me.

  • what a fucking performance!

  • The new EP is going to be up there with Interstate 8 no doubt. Modest Mouse has not "lost it" or whatever people are saying. They started at their peak and have continued to stay there for 16 years. THEY ARE THE BEST BAND, EVER, OF ALL TIME!!!!

  • thats an interesting opinion

  • why do you say that?

  • NO WAY! Interstate 8 will never be surpassed! If anything it will be better than We Were Dead, but probably not better than Good News. It will be second worse.

  • Notice I didn't say it was going to surpass Interstate 8, merely be up there with it. And have you heard the entire EP yet? If not, please don't pre-judge it.

  • I have heard about half the tracks and the caliber of those tracks have not even been close to the quality of every single song on Interstate 8. I see the EP being in the area with Everywhere as far as EPs go, with all due respect.

  • And you may very well be right. But I think we should give it time to see if maybe at first it seems not so great, but after a year or so of it, it seems amazing. One can dream......one can dream.....

  • Do you know Modest Mouse? They have yet to make a disapointing album (to me)! All it is is the clouding of people's mind when they hear different Modest Mouse music. They don't know how to treat it as any old good music.

  • what do you mean by "Do you know Modest Mouse?" And I completely agree with you, they haven't made a disappointing album. Ever. And the new EP won't be different for it is going to be amazing! :)

  • right on!

  • This is an awesome song.

  • the studio version comes out Monday!!! I think Satellite Skin soudns a little over produced compared to what expected, but it's still great. I am SO excited to see how this one turns out. This song RULES. If they put this much time in a b-sides ep, I can only imagine how logn we are going to wait for a new album. It's well worth the wait though.

  • cant wait to buy this EP been too long

  • sweet baby jesus. thank you so so so much for uploading this. you are a fucking saint

  • Man, the studio version of Satellite Skin was really good...but this, when released, is going to be one of the greatest MM songs to date

  • I said the exact same thing to my friend.

  • This song is dope! Modest Mouse is the best! I can't wait for the EP and I can't wait to hear the studio version of this song.

  • Isaac Brock's a G

  • i was at this show. it was great.

  • Thanks for the good video! I believe that is grandaddy's guitarist rockin out beside isaac, that must've been awesome to see. EP comin out may 26, i'm definitely grabbin that

  • also been listening to modest mouse for years. i like listening to them while driving throw traffic or just driving. it helps

  • been listening to modest mouse for 5 years and some people say they've changed, but this proves them wrong. cannot wait for the ep

  • Well compared to "This is a Long Drive For Someone with Nothing to Think About" they have changed. But i wouldn't say changed, they've evolved and every album they've put out sounds completely different from the prior one. That's why they're one of my favorite bands.

  • I think this song is more like some of their older stuff the way it breaksdown and could be a completely different song... I like that. (every MM song rocks including new stuff screw haters)

  • good tune.

  • they played this at the concert i went to! I had no idea what it was but i loved it! The new EP is going to be sick!!!

  • oh... its the show i couldve gone to =(

    damn

  • ahhhhhh CAN"T WAIT

  • Oooooh, catchy!

  • amazing... Holy fuck this song is amazing. I wish I could hear it more clearly but this is fine for now.

  • YES! *ROCKS OUT* WOOOO Lol

    Love modest mouse..can not wait!

Anyone have info on if the King Rat vid is real or not?

  • Yea i looked it up its real. Awesome!

  • it's really got a "paper thin walls" feeling to it. and touches of a "doin the cockroach" feeling.

    reminiscent to their older stuff.

love it, like all their stuff.

  • I love it. I cant wait for the new EP.

  • Can we find a way to blame our way out?

  • So they have the whale song and now this with the guitar sounding like the animals in the titles. I think I am liking it. Reminds me of mechanical birds.

  • this is really cool, i love the riff. sorta reminds me of holopaw or something.

and i must say, i like it a lot more than satellite skin atm.

  • thats good cuz we need another ugly casanova album

  • This song is fucking amazing!! I can't wait for the EP. It's amazing how many different guitar parts he can write that sound amazing.

  • oh boy!!! new songz!!

  • this is such a cool song! it sounds like the Mouse i love. i cant wait for the EP, August cant come soon enough

  • I know!

  • Man, can't wait for their new album in August.

  • better play this tonight instead of satellite skin... so much better

  • This sounds really good, I can't wait for the EP to come out!

  • fuck yeah. this is my favorite of the new songs

  • In the beginning of this song... does anyone else notice the similarities between the melody in this song and the slower parts of March Into the Sea? They sound almost identical.

Either way. I like this new song.

  • i was thinkin' the same thing :)

  • Yeah, I kind of hear a similarity between guitar in some parts in this and March into the Sea. That's such a great song... Good call!

  • what camera did you use?

  • Awesome, I was right next to you I think. Were you next to that douchebag guy who was standing sideways and kept yelling?

  • Thanks for awesome footage and sound. I want your camera.

  • Sounds awesome, especially the solo.

  • this made my day, all the "new" material such good goddamn music
