Broke a string, got a new guitar, and plugged back in in less than 20 seconds. Amazing.
To think that up until Good News, I didn't know who the hell these guys were. I'm glad that they bounced back with the new EP, We Were Dead was pretty bad.
Dude, I'm not trying to be an asshole, but you know that the EP is actually B-sides from Good News and We Were Dead, right? I mean, even the vinyl edition of Good News has "I've got it all (most)". I think everything Modest Mouse has done is miraculous and beautiful, but y'know, that's just me...
@SummerLandMan Yes, I'm quite aware, Actually, I had made this comment after only listening to it for the first time. I had barely skimmed through the song list. Still, I found this to be a lot more enjoyable than We Were Dead. The comment field here is cut in half, so I apologize for any typos.
Its hilarious that you guys are debating who's a bigger modest mouse fan and who's more intelligent and deserving of being a fan. Youre 12 years old, end of story. In my opinion if you dont love MM youre an idiot, so that makes me a fan.
Personally I think whoever's debating about being a bigger fan is considered a poser. Like seriously, Modest Mouse has been my favorite band since I actually really liked music, but I know for sure there are always going to be bigger and better fans. There's always someone who is more into it than you or me.
Such a good description of my own views, as well. I liked Modest Mouse when Good News came out. Figured that I liked them as much as any other band, but I just still like them. For some reason, their music never seems to get old or I never tire of it...either way...MM ftw!
"I Say So" and "Ugly Casanova" are brilliant tracks. Same with "This Is Real Life" and "Buttons To Push The Buttons." I even think "Leaflets Gabe" has something going for it, but that's just me.
What about the Fruit that ate itself? or everywhere and his nasty parlor tricks? and i know Baron is a live album. not a random collection..and i thought that Building Nothing was an album...and a great one at that...and i didnt think that Sad Sappy was random at all...i thought it was all of the songs from the ep blue cadet three do you connect? along with some others to make it their first album...but idk for sure...i was just thinking...and i think they have a few more live albums too...
well, most can't even get the number of albums right in the first place (5 studio albums), don't know why Sad Sappy Sucker got held back (they abandoned the project b/c they didn't like it), know their first label (Up Records), know when they were formed (1993), name all the EPs (Blue Cadet-3, Do You Connect?, Interstate 8, The Fruit That Ate Itself, Night on the Sun, Everywhere And His Nasty Parlour Tricks, and upcoming No One's First & You're Next). Building Nothing... is a compiltation btw
none of you are real modest mouse fans...that's kind of funny. sad part is you will never be real modest mouse fans (and the reason is not something obvious btw so don't even try and guess) (with your low IQs it is probably improbable that you would have to hazard a guess that is even close to being close) Your all fleeting specks in the Modest Mouse audience (especially ModestMouse1207and gens420). It just better for you to stop listening to MM and save yourself the trouble of acting foolish.
I'm much more of a fan then you are. I know all of their albums and EP's. And soon enough I'm going to get 2 unreleased tapes Isaac made in his shed before their Sad Sappy Sucker days.
You're lucky in that respect. I desperately want Interstate-8, because it has some great songs on it (including Edit the Sad Parts, my favorite Modest Mouse song)- that and BNOOS would have me mostly content.
'The Lonesome Crowded West' is one of my favorites..very sparse and raw-sounding. Definitely check it out. 'Good News' is definitely more radio-friendly, but has some excellent guitar work, and holds a special spot in my heart, because "Bury Me With It" was the song that first got me hooked on them :)
It's great when Isaac's guitar breaks. He just looks at Eric Judy once, like "dude, my guitar fucked up" And Judy's like "oh, solo time" They jelled so perfectly there, not to mention the acoustic to bass switch that was actually planned.
Agreed, there was some good stuff on that album but it didn't stand up on further listens. That said, March On was bitching. Good News - was their best album.
i love every single song on good news, for people who love bad news, of course. for the most part. i wasnt all that crayz about this devils workday, but other than that i loved it
The Moon & Antarctica, This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About, Lonesome Crowded West, Building Nothing Out Of Something, and Sad Sappy Sucker are all better and thats only including albums, not EP's.
Have you ever heard any of them? I'm being serious, not a jackass.
are you high, they only have 5 albums, so do some research before you try and act like a guru, i hope a cocker spaniel jizzes in your face to make up for you stupidity
This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About, Lonesome Crowded West, Building Nothing Out Of Something, The Moon & Antarctica, Sad Sappy Sucker, Baron Von Bullshit, Good News For People Who Love Bad News, We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank.
Are you stupid? Sad Sappy Sucker was suppose to be their debut but got held back for reasons I can't remember. Baron Von Bullshit Rides Again is a live ALBUM. And Building Nothing Out Of Something is a compilation ALBUM.
Fuck you're definitely one of the stupidest Modest Mouse fans I've met.
So true. However in my opinion this title is one of the weaker ones. Guilty Cocker Spaniels? That's just plain weird. Just think of titles like Satin in a Coffin or March into the sea. ;)
well that's what I would like about their titles, they are weird and creative and sometimes have no relevance to song (as far I might know)....my favorite title would have to be "talking shit about a pretty sunset"!
Also notice that Isaac plays his solo while Eric switches his acoustic with his bass. Eric looks at the drummer to tell him that he's ready. This song seems like it's a lot of work to play, it incorporates so many different sounds that they have to switch guitars in the middle of the song.
Notice right before Isaac switches guitars he looks at Eric Judy. Judy goes on to play his bass solo and keep the melody while Isaac switches guitars. I think he did break a string or something and he had to switch guitars. It takes a lot of talent and teamwork between all band members to pull this of without being detected by the audience.
Yeah i was wondering why Isaac switched guitars also. My ears aren't too good at detecting the *fuckedupness* of the sound but i thought he was switching to his banjo or something. Kinda threw me off for a second but i agree that it might have been a popped string.
I'm waiting for the new Sattelite Skin single to come in the mail but I don't have a turntable. Do you know what the best kind to get for the best price?
i hear that one. at the beginning it's almost like a mix between 'beach side property' and 'space travel is boring' to me. then a rip jam that turns into a sweet fucking arrangement!
Oddly enough, I didn't like Satellite Skin live, but the studio version is pretty damn awesome. I was at this show, and this song is great LIVE, but the studio version is a lot more mellow. . .
The new EP is going to be up there with Interstate 8 no doubt. Modest Mouse has not "lost it" or whatever people are saying. They started at their peak and have continued to stay there for 16 years. THEY ARE THE BEST BAND, EVER, OF ALL TIME!!!!
NO WAY! Interstate 8 will never be surpassed! If anything it will be better than We Were Dead, but probably not better than Good News. It will be second worse.
Notice I didn't say it was going to surpass Interstate 8, merely be up there with it. And have you heard the entire EP yet? If not, please don't pre-judge it.
I have heard about half the tracks and the caliber of those tracks have not even been close to the quality of every single song on Interstate 8. I see the EP being in the area with Everywhere as far as EPs go, with all due respect.
And you may very well be right. But I think we should give it time to see if maybe at first it seems not so great, but after a year or so of it, it seems amazing. One can dream......one can dream.....
Do you know Modest Mouse? They have yet to make a disapointing album (to me)! All it is is the clouding of people's mind when they hear different Modest Mouse music. They don't know how to treat it as any old good music.
what do you mean by "Do you know Modest Mouse?" And I completely agree with you, they haven't made a disappointing album. Ever. And the new EP won't be different for it is going to be amazing! :)
the studio version comes out Monday!!! I think Satellite Skin soudns a little over produced compared to what expected, but it's still great. I am SO excited to see how this one turns out. This song RULES. If they put this much time in a b-sides ep, I can only imagine how logn we are going to wait for a new album. It's well worth the wait though.
Thanks for the good video! I believe that is grandaddy's guitarist rockin out beside isaac, that must've been awesome to see. EP comin out may 26, i'm definitely grabbin that
Well compared to "This is a Long Drive For Someone with Nothing to Think About" they have changed. But i wouldn't say changed, they've evolved and every album they've put out sounds completely different from the prior one. That's why they're one of my favorite bands.
I think this song is more like some of their older stuff the way it breaksdown and could be a completely different song... I like that. (every MM song rocks including new stuff screw haters)
So they have the whale song and now this with the guitar sounding like the animals in the titles. I think I am liking it. Reminds me of mechanical birds.
In the beginning of this song... does anyone else notice the similarities between the melody in this song and the slower parts of March Into the Sea? They sound almost identical.
well we are getting blamed because everyone knew!

Do you know Modest Mouse? They have yet to make a disapointing album (to me)! All it is is the clouding of people's mind when they hear different Modest Mouse music. They don't know how to treat it as any old good music.
toughbail456 2 years ago
what do you mean by "Do you know Modest Mouse?" And I completely agree with you, they haven't made a disappointing album.

Man, the studio version of Satellite Skin was really good...but this, when released, is going to be one of the greatest MM songs to date

been listening to modest mouse for 5 years and some people say they've changed, but this proves them wrong. cannot wait for the ep
xjakemarinx 2 years ago
Well compared to "This is a Long Drive For Someone with Nothing to Think About" they have changed. But i wouldn't say changed, they've evolved and every album they've put out sounds completely different from the prior one. That's why they're one of my favorite bands.
BustedStuff87 2 years ago
I think this song is more like some of their older stuff the way it breaksdown and could be a completely different song... I like that. (every MM song rocks including new stuff screw haters)

it's really got a "paper thin walls" feeling to it. and touches of a "doin the cockroach" feeling.
reminiscent to their older stuff.
love it, like all their stuff.

Can we find a way to blame our way out?
mw2828 2 years ago
So they have the whale song and now this with the guitar sounding like the animals in the titles. I think I am liking it. Reminds me of mechanical birds.
nickknoerzer 2 years ago
this is really cool, i love the riff. sorta reminds me of holopaw or something.
and i must say, i like it a lot more than satellite skin atm.

whereiendnyoubgn 2 years ago
In the beginning of this song... does anyone else notice the similarities between the melody in this song and the slower parts of March Into the Sea? They sound almost identical.
Either way. I like this new song.
sirgarycoleman 2 years ago
i was thinkin' the same thing :)
1012delta 2 years ago
Yeah, I kind of hear a similarity between guitar in some parts in this and March into the Sea. That's such a great song... Good call!
