  • Good music. When my son became a bar mitzvah at Congregation Solel, Highland Park, IL, in May of '94 (Shabbat Behalotekha) the Maxwell Street Klezmer band played at the reception afterwards.

  • HOLD YOUR CLARINET, that business about the destruction of Second Temple, and rabbis decreeing music in the synagogue is TOTALLY WRONG. Klezmer music is not liturgical music. And there were no synagogues, rabbis and synagogues is an adaptation after destruction of Temple in 79 C.E. And anyway just the opposite is true. In Orthodox synagogues, still today, no music in the synagogue on account of we are in mourning over destruction of temple.

  • And American music would not be what it is without the contribution of those Jews who arrived during the late 19th century/early 20th century.

  • DL the audio from this vid at speedyconversion doht cohm.

  • SUPER!!! ESPECTACULAR!!!

  • thanx for this clip! I was often looking for sth. to bring the klezmer music nearer to friends / show them what it is. Since this kind of music is so varying, it's hard to show them a 'typical' klezmer piece. But you 1.) gave some very good pieces and 2.) explain simultaneously what Klezmer is!

    Thanks and greets from Berlin!
