I saw that match in Oct. '59 @ Wembley. Clough was right that he was tactically misused by Winterbottom in that match. What a centre-forward he was: he could & wanted to score, he had pace & a terrific shot, & he always seemed to know where the goal was. It's REALLY a shame that the sel. comm. didn't pick him more & his career was cut short by injury. Clough's playing career & scoring stats really seem to get overlooked these days.

But what I neglected to add was that you'd be an expert on Clough's skillset, being a lad from the north east yourself... you probably saw him in many a game. So again, it is sad he didn't get or take a chance to do his thing in division one.
