With power at midpoint, the clamor of all four engines grew.
Ahead of the aircraft, in the snow, they could see a ground crewman with raised, lighted signal wands. Patroni grinned, "If we come out fast, I hope that guy's a good runner."
An-124 RA-82078 has made it a habit to roll through the mud at Gander :) Wonder if the video is from the incident on March 31, 2007 (TSB report A07A0029)
I really wouldn't want to be standing that close to an aircraft that size sliding on soft land. If you look closely you can see a little bit of slip when the plane begins to turn.
Many empty large jet transports have more than enough thrust to blast through that amount of ground muck, but ripping off the landing gear is a risk.
This is the same configuration as on many military transports like the C-130, C-5, C-17, etc. And like many Soviet era aircraft, this design is put into civilian use as well.
It's built to do this, so it's not really "amazing" (tanks drive out of the mud too), but fun to watch.
lol I bet that pilot already new that if he got that plane stuck he was headed to Siberia. So it was coming one way or the other.

Гул двигателей усилился.
Перед самолетом стоял человек, держа высоко над головой светящиеся сигнальные жезлы. Патрони усмехнулся.
— Надеюсь, этот малый хорошо умеет бегать, а то вдруг мы рванём.

This is almost 1,5 times the mass of a B747. Try to even imagine doing something like this with the Jumbo. Incredible.

These machines are designed for this terrain. The runway with concrete is "first class" for An-124.

And that's why planes do not need a 4x4 car engine.

the drivetrain is 4x4 the engine has nothing to do with it

@020808 For what? It's not doing anything dangerous and there is a fair share of 'off road' aircraft in the US.

That's bullshit! It is only slush over pavement...
slip sliding's easy!
Beside he's empty...try that on dry pavement and it will
have the tires ripped off the rims.

It's the landing gear that's allowing this.
