can anybody tell me which engine bolts up to a 58 edsel?i want to put a 300 but might be a bit too long.my engine bay measures 36..if i decide on the 300 i would have to remove the fan and clutch and install and electric fan.
love the motor man. i have a 79 f-150 4x4 with a 300w/ 4spd granny. Swapped it for a 460 w/c-6. worst mistake i ever made thats why i'm doing an unswap.
The intake manifold is only 175 at Summit Racing, a set of Headman longtubes is only 199, a nice cam is under 250, and with those parts alone you can throw 350-400FT LBs down.
The machine work was probably quite expensive, tho, and especially the balancing. Still, no more expensive than building up a 302 to the same degree.
Well if i had money, I'd tell ya what I'd do, I'd go downtown to buy a Mercury or two. Crazy bout a Mercury! Yes I'm crazy bout a Mercury, I'm gonna buy me a Mercury and cruise it up and down the road.
may god bless you eternally for your kindness towards the I6, few of them are given a chance to show their full potential and you have given one that chance!
Didn't state that I "couldn't", I stated I "wouldn't". Big difference. W/o the MSD box the engine wouldn't Start, nor Run as Efficiently as it does w/ it.
Duuudddeee, I painted the engine to be the same as the Originals were from the Factory in 1958. And unless Offenhauser just started making valve covers for the 300 I-6, I've scoured the planet & haven't located one yet, plus it's not listed in the Offenhauser Catalog.
Huh. Must be the older Fords they make 'em for? I've got an Offy cover on the GM six in my Olds. Tried Clifford Performance yet? They have some very nice (although, pricey) look-alikes. Quick peek through Inliner's International link page might be worthwhile, as well.
Still say you ought to polish those valve cover ribs! :p

That thing sounds awesome. Post a video of that thing completely destroying some rubbar, man! I know yours can if mine, which is box stock, 195,000 miles worn out, can.
thats a really clean motor, i have an 94 EFI straight six with an accel ignition, k&n intake, helix throttle spacer and flowmaster 40 series exhaust, those motors are sooo torquey
very nice!!so you eliminated the fan clutch and fan and installed an electric fan?

That's a sweet sounding 300. Very crisp throttle response. Nice!

That's pretty cool. It's nice to see something a little different. I'd like to see what a falcon would do with that engine.

The crank to cam is through gears not a chain .. ONE LESS THING TO GO WRONG LOVE EM .

The builder, JMS racing engines, put it on the Dyno right after they build it.

goddamn that thing is amazing. I'd imagine this thing at the drag strip is a monster. That is if you drag it of course.
Also, how much went into the motor? These old i6's aren't exactly budget builds.
