i installed a Q6600 on my e5290 - great for 20mins then BSOD error code 124- used artic 5 thermal paste. Constant bsod -s i have re-installed win7 and got a bsod just before new descktop appeared i had the latest bios 2.4.0 - tried everythink to fix it but no good - may have to put old pentium 4 back in
I have sucessfully installed Q6700 on my Dell E520 and replaced the Dell stock cooler with a Noctua NH-U9B Original edition cooler by bending the mounting bars with pliers and using mounting parts meant for both LGA775 and AM2 chipsets.
Temperatures are acceptable at an average of 29 degrees celcius for each core.
hi, i bought a q6600 to put in my e520. i installed it and everything went fine. although now i am noticing that windows is only recognizing 2 cores out of 4. the task manager only shows 2 graphs...any ideas/help?
What program did you use to check the temp? I have an e520 and I'm buying a q6600 from my buddy. I just want to be able to make sure the temp is good after I install it.
Hey I need to ask you something, can I use the heatsink and fan that came with my Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 with the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 processor? Or do I need a heatsink and fan that specifically came with the Quad core processor?
You have to stick with the Dell stock heatsink. It's not that bad, really. With Arctic Silver 5, the temps can go as low as 20C to as high as 40C on idle. And it never reaches past 71C.
Please tell me how you got that 8600gt to work on your computer? because i have the same computer but i get a blank screen when i put that card in. P.S. nice video
Both. You disable/uninstall the integrated card via Device Manager, and then uninstall the drivers associated with the card. After that, put your 8600GT in and it should work.
Your 8600GT is dead (I'm assuming the worst). I don't know what else to tell you. Did you plug via DVI or VGA? And is the monitor set in the proper mode?
can i change the heatsink with an stock intel one? i3 530

@hdgaming128 Not officially. The stock Dell heatsink has no fan (this is a separate component).

Naru2005: What heatsink did you use for your q6600? Is it the one that came with the Dell E520?
exozero 2 years ago
Yes, it's the same stock heatsink that came with the Dell E520.
Naru2005 2 years ago
Thanks, I've just purchased a Q6700 off eBay.

Yes, you can. It works. I'm sure they're the same heatsink.

Great! I'm planning to get a Q6700 very soon for my Dell E520!

Good luck!
I think Intel may have already phased out those 65nm Quads by now, so if you find one, get one fast before they run out.

can u use the cooler that comes with the q6700 or do u have to keep the dell stock one..umm...what did u do?

Yea, this case isn't designed for overclocking or overclockers in case that's what you were planning to do.

so would my dell Dimension E250 currently running a E6300 be able to run the Q6600/Q6700?
because if it could that would be sweet! :D
but the graphics card I have running in it is kinda sucky XP Geforce 7300 LE
supershaun91 2 years ago
Yes, of course. Power isn't the issue. Both quad-cores have the same TDP as the Pentium D's (which the E520 officially supports).
Naru2005 2 years ago
sweet! thats good to know :D
I really need to get a graphics card that can be handle on my E520's since its only a 310 watt max

Its plugged via the VGA port and the monitor is set to analog

I just inserted the card, plugged in the cords, and installed the drivers upon bootup. Nothing more than that, really.
Make sure you uninstall the integrated graphic drivers before you install the 8600GT.
Naru2005 3 years ago
I did all that but i still get nothing :?
dbzno1 3 years ago
Wait a minute should i disable or uninstall the integrated card.
dbzno1 3 years ago
Both. You disable/uninstall the integrated card via Device Manager, and then uninstall the drivers associated with the card. After that, put your 8600GT in and it should work.

still no success :(
