  • that kiss looks nasty..

  • of all austen's stories...this one's my favourite :)

  • I am. I am determined. I WILL! *sigh*

  • This ending literally makes my heart melt!

  • HER TEETH VERY YELLOW...SORRY :/

  • from 1:32 im thinking 'God damn it wentworth, bend down and kiss the girl already! it took him a good 30 seconds until they finally locked lips!!

  • damn kiss her all ready!

  • I must admit the kiss seen is way too long and the purests might say this movie isn't as close as other versions but omg having a guy as hot as this one play the lead makes it oh so real for me. Great story with fantastic actors I love this version as apposed to some of the older ones with not as good film technology and sets.

  • I must admit the kiss was he

  • Oh, it seems I've born too late and all perfect gentlemen are gone somewhere with no returning... Stilll, love doesn't change so.. we all can have some hope, can't we? :)

  • Only Jane Austen could make me want to fall in love. Now, I want a Captain Wentworth.

  • she looked like a fish out of water gasping for air when she was going in for that kiss!

  • If you hate this kiss I recommend Northanger Abbey (the latest one) all you frustrations about this one will disappear.

  • I adore this movie! but could you imagine being wentworth and having that girl about to kiss you like that! He is just waiting and she is like drooling and biting the air? haha nice:)

  • Charles is driving me insain hunting this, hunting that. Yes hunting is important but cant he tell the Wentworth is not paying any attention to anything he is saying. he is vocused on Anne!

  • i like this movie and the book but not the ugly person who plays the caracter.

  • gross !!! to kiss a mouth where saliva is coming out from her teeth. euggg

  • 3:18 Captain Wentworth is like what the fuck is wrong with her hair

  • Beautiful movie (-_-)... As usual, Jane Austen never disappoints.

  • The most annoying part of this whole movie was Anne's hairstyle.

  • Yea that kiss did take forever to execute :/

  • That kiss is awful. And I don't think they would have kissed on a public street back then.

  • im sorry but that kiss is very awkward....

  • That was. Adorable

  • I prefer the story of the book....

I liked it better, but well i've read that first so I may be precudiced about it

and that thing with the house never acctually happend in the book and it was totally kitch! but I just cant persuade myself wether I liked or hated the scene the most (my emotional part loves it but my rational hates it...)

but they have chosen the actors well I may say *love CW*

  • Most uncomfortable movie kiss of my life. Hahaha.

  • good film...

but i wish she wouldnt stare into the camera!

  • I love the scene right before this where she runs like crazy with the letter to find him. I'd run like that too. Still dreaming. <3

  • I'm a total sucker for a love story!!! :D Cant wait for my own.....

  • soooooooooo much of a build up and so little of the actual romance!

  • I like the 1995 version much better.

  • @Sapphirekatgirl2 theres another version! wow!

  • ohh i love this kiss ,.

  • I thought the actors were really good, but is it only me who thinks Anne had her mouth open all the time and that it was annoying when she looked right into the camera?

  • I found myself smiling back at Anne :)...what a beautiful story, I can not get enough of it!

  • I was fucking greetin by the end of that, what a beautiful story :')

  • that's often the same actors or actresses in these movies! by the way if you like these stories you have to watch north and south, it's just wonderful!

  • @kissmagik yeah North and south is another one of my favs !

  • Comment removed

  • @kissmagik North and South and Persuasion are both my all time favourite stories!! :)

  • @ILoveMrDarcy2233 EXACTLY!!! none as beautifully executed as them!

  • Most. Awkward. Kiss. Ever.

  • PLEASE join '''period drama/romance movies''' on facebook!!!

  • Not going to lie, found myself tearing up at the end.

  • Oh my gosh! What an amazing movie! I just watched the whole thing through and let me just say, I LOVE IT!!!

  • He's soooooo freaking dreamy!!!!! I'm in LOVE!!!!!!!

  • Longest - kiss - ever

  • GOD, he is so handsome!

  • Omg, that first kiss was agonizing. After eight years, I wouldn't spend one more moment on hesitation. It's about time they ended up together! <3

  • .., When first reading Persuasion, I wasn't a big fan, but having read more of the story, analysing it in class and having seen some of this, I really quite like it now. Heck, I'm a big gush for romance! :) x

  • What GENTELMAN!!!

  • This novel sums up the definition of true love

  • a lovely movie it is indeed she got to have a second chance with her one true love while others do not.... not even a second glance some are not even lucky enough to have a true love

  • By far the sweetest love story ever written. None can compare to the beauty that is Anne and Captain Wentworth love.

  • Ann looks like she is wearing a black cinnamon roll on the back of her head....

  • "...and this is my wedding present to you..." (the cap'n shows her his council flat) "are you quite certain Anne!?.." "yes...yes (oh yes) !! I am determined to live in your council flat Cap'n!..."

  • Beautiful really loved this film <3

  • LOVE when he takes his hat off at 0:49

  • What a brilliant, unique and quite new interpretation of the character of Anne! Quiet, sensitive, nervous, a little shy and rather sweet. I've never seen her played quite like this before, yet it seems rather appropriate and apt. Perhaps that's exactly what Austen had in mind!

Nice to see that the commercial channels can produce quality stuff occasionally, as well as the good old BBC.

  • Crying cause I know there's no one now in days willing enough to write me a damn letter conveying their feelings! T-T Also as gentleman as Captain Wentworth <3

  • oh Jane Austen, write a story for me!

  • The waiting and waiting, then the tension. And it's just a kiss.

    ,but what a Kiss!

  • I love this ending!!! Beautiful! Oh goodness i'm about to cry.

  • AAAAAHHHHH! Hes adorable. I want one!

  • uhh gives me goosebumps!!!

  • The Captain @3:15 has just about the best smile ever. Love, love, love it!

  • I'm not going to cry. I'm not going to cry....

Oh dash it all!! *sobs happily*

  • BBC does such good versions of Austen novels. They are always filmed in beautiful locations with fine costumes and actors are always excellent choices.

  • @Maybeshesbornwithitt they do, but this is an ITV one

  • hows that for a look, eh Wentworth?

  • I just found comments on this movie in a web page, but i did like it!!! The acting was excellent ,i loved the female lead...and the male...OMG!! He conveyed all the emotions...

Oh Mister Darcy, you've got a strong compitor..if it wasn't you Collin Firth, you'd be out. Now it goes like this, perfect guys: Mr Rochester (i love him/Tomothy Dalton too) Mr Darcy (In movies, only Collin) And This Captain...

Love, love love the movie, it should be longer, like a series but well i'll go and get the book

  • @puccapinguina Ya thats my only disappointment is that it is not longer.

  • Was Kellynch the wedding present that Captain Wentworth gave to Anne?

  • why is´n't real life romance like this!?!?!

  • LOVE IT!

  • Where can I see the 1995 version? I understand that that version is more true to the book and would like to compare it to this one.

  • All this Victorian diplomacy really gets under my skin! You have been in love with the man for the past decade woman and vice - versa, JUST COME OUT AND CONFESS IT ALREADY!!! DAMN! It was bloody frustrating watching them underplay their emotions constantly and consistently until the end! Demonstrations of great performances. Loved it!

  • @ashutosh232 Regency diplomacy, not Victorian.

    /history nerd nitpick

  • Her words are well spoken to her future husband.

  • Terrific ending. Wonderful. Marvelous. Fantastic!

  • the slow kiss was his revenge on her for making him wait eight years. this time, he wanted her to reach out for him. you could see his little smirk while she's stretching out her neck

  • i love this but omg slowest kiss EVER haha

  • I could watch the ending a million times!!!

  • I love the books better.

  • There is something about Captain Wentworth that is extremely attractive; even is mannerisms and the way he conceals his true feelings throughout the movie (as well as, of course, the moments when he allows himself to express his feelings in words or looks)...basically everything about him is attractive.

  • fooledbyfraud haha, I was jst thinking about that. But not if he is paid by the hour, I'm sure he's eager to cash in on that timr

  • girlsrock96omg I agree but its nearly impossible to find such male hybrid

  • Exactlyyy!!!!

  • If I were Anne I would so just swoop in for a kiss and not give a damn who was on the street and kiss him for all I am worth! I would too! Oh how I wish I had a Mr. Darcy , Mr. Thornton, or a Captain Wentworth! These men are what men should be! ;)

  • He really didn't need to keep her reaching like that!!! Help the girl out...she'd been waiting for that kiss for 8 years!!!!!!!

  • @Eccentric14 : I think that was his purpose...perhaps, to make sure she is, indeed, determined...and, maybe a wee bit of punishment for what she made him go through lol

  • @Eccentric14 Most, awkward, one-sided kiss EVER.

  • i feel sorry for the coachman towards the end, he has none but horses to share the special moment hahah

  • What at great movie! Loved to watch it :)

  • Every time she accepts his proposal, and they begin to kiss... I bounce in my seat and shout, "Just kiss her already! For pities sake!" *rolls eyes and smacks forehead* Every bloody time... >.< lol

  • Tall Man, please lean down and meet her lips half way

  • this end... i cry.

  • Ergh, her hair.

  • @ALDERMANOFFOUNTALL: Being pro-life is a good thing as all these pessimist philosophers like Socrates and Schopenhauer can be really depressing; and the Normans did very quickly integrate into French society, that is why you can see them fighting the battle of Hastings on horseback, while the Vikings always fought on foot; and their merging with France took some time but by the time of the hundred years war they held fierce loyalty to France against the English invasion.

  • @ALDERMANOFFOUNTALL: And the Normans adopted the provincial Latin which is now known as French, had they uphold their Viking language they would speak like the Danes or Swedes; and since France is not so squeezed as England the various region have a stronger regional self-awareness but the Normans are much more attached to France than the Bretons for example.

  • @ALDERMANOFFOUNTALL: Nope; as Philip II of Macedon did lived 800 years ago before the Anglo-Saxon invasion of the Roman province Britain did lay the foundations to what is called England today; and I mentioned Philip II of Macedon because he had a very famous son called Alexander the Great – the legendary king who conquered the vast Persian Empire and almost India – to indicate that Napoleon could by all probability not expect ro produce such a son.

  • @ALDERMANOFFOUNTALL: But you are aware that Harold Godwinson did beat the Danes ere he lost the Battle of Hastings? And that those folk you refer to as Normans did in fact come from the French duchy of Normandy; which was given to the Normans a hundred years ago and that their Duke Guillaume le Conquérant did levy knights and armed men from all parts of France for his conquest of England; apart from the Normans adopting the traditional French horse back fighting.

  • @ALDERMANOFFOUNTALL: No, Napoleon was what is called a womaniser and he was very popular among the female sex and heavily under the influence of his mother Leticia; while it was Napoleon who did restore Poland (as the duchy of Warsaw), after Prussia, Austria and Russia had divided it, so there was nothing to save; and the only women Napoleon had quarrels with were those who did oppose him in politics like Madame de Staël or the Prussian Queen Louise; so he was not a ruffian.

  • @ALDERMANOFFOUNTALL: One can accuse old Napoleon of many things but not that he had a dislike of women; in fact he has good chances that some day more people will descent from him than from Charlemagne or even Genghis Khan! And Trafalgar was of no importance since Napoleon was defeated at Leipzig, after his blunder in Russia; had he defeated the Russians he would have simply ordered the building of a new fleet and given the English types another battle of Hastings.

  • From time to time I cannot succumb this romantic vice; also I am much amazed that anyone could compose sallow sub-upper class romances at the very same time when Napoleon was struggling for European hegemony and world domination (though the nasty Germans denied it to him, as the English and the Russian wouldn’t have stood a chance alone); normally I prefer tragedies like the Antigone of Sophocles or Macbeth by Shakespeare but sometimes I am too weak to resist.

  • Though Madame Austen usually tells the same story of a clever, not so young shy girl in want of riches being courted by rich men and of course the most likely candidate always proves to be rotten egg due to some vices in his character; and so the unlikely suitor does make the match; this is why I can always tell who is getting who in the end; but it does not matter since Madame Austen did not write her books to be too profound and mind shattering as Siddhartha of Hesse is for example.

  • Their words between them is so romantic, & the blinded surprise so wonderful, what an awesome blessing!!

  • Charles get the hint, go away!

  • Charles, please leave no one is listening lol

  • Persuausion is my favorite austen story, and i know that this version doesn't stay comepletely true to the book, but this is my favorite version because of how they took austens words and adapted them into the movie to be used as her telling the story. I love how this story really shows that love never stops and it gives us all hope that someday we will find someone that is meant for us. And only time will tell when that will be. Jane austen understood so much about love. We have a lot to learn.

  • Become a fan of PERIOD ROMANCE MOVIES on facebook! :)

  • wow... here's proof that I've seen this movie too much, I just realized that the statue behind them at the house is facing the wrong way from the beginning of the movie. Fail movie, fail!!!

  • WHAT IS THIS MUSIC!? ahhhh

  • wonderful movie! :)

  • Wow...everytime I watch a Jane Austen movie...I just can't stop..

    Amazing...

  • it just goes to show you nothing happens before its ordained time.

  • @Vediboi888 true

  • 2:10 - 2:16

when she looked up and smiled, my heart skipped a beat...because in that smile, it said "finally, I am happy". I love Anne, I'm so so happy everything worked out for her.

  • shes like nom nom nom

  • best movie.

  • He makes me think of Calvin and Hobbes and I just love him the more for it lol xD

  • oh how i wish men still dressed like that....

  • @ForeverStargazer Watch Rupert Penry Jones in White Chapel and then make that statement.

  • @ForeverStargazer Me too, God it's so damn sexy. :D

  • @ForeverStargazer Oh, I wish them behaved like that .... :)

  • @ForeverStargazer

Just as I wish that females still wore dresses.

  • Ohhhh.....the tension, the build-up, leading to such a beautiful climax. I love this film! I must go passionately kiss my husband now. Bye!

  • I am at a loss. I really love this version because of the frantic & determined running scene, it really puts Anne in charge & shows her commitment. However it does detract and undermine the intensity of Frederick's letter & that's something that I always enjoyed about the novel. Anyhow I'm glad I can enjoy both. & the hesitation in the kiss was so sweet. It's like before they closed their eyes they couldn't believe it wad happening.

  • ol say whats up with the kiss, what the hec if you've been waiting such a long time to be with someone finally after many years the kiss wouldnt take that long gosh he should be like all over her already lol will thats what i think anyway.

  • goah bout time she said yes far that took ages i thought she would never get around to saying yes or even with him talk about take forever lol

  • Geez that was the longest almost-kiss in the world!

Persuasion is my number one Jane Austen book. I think I get more butterflies from the book than the film, but this adaption of it was really good none the less.

  • The only saving grace in this adaptation is by Rupert Penry-Jones (Wentworth). After watching this one and the 1995 adaptation one after the other, it proves that it is possible to tell a beautiful story while being faithful to Jane Autsten's original intentions, but not by this version. The most poetic and moving speech, given by Anne, that "pierced" FW's soul is butchered in this one. What a shame!

  • this was the BEST/most beautiful film I have ever had the pleasure to watch! Thanks!

  • 1.44 - 2.05 is agonizingly painful but beautifully executed...

  • Ah! what is must be like to be a Jane Austen heroine <3

  • i can't imagine Wentworth is showing much appreciation or attention to what Charles Musgrove is blabbering on about... lol :)

  • IMHO, Sally Hawkins is mis-cast as AE, described by JA as a delicate fine woman although not in her bloom. My 10 yo daughter was spoofed by the fact she is the love interest of FW. For some reasons, the makeup/hair style in period dramas do not complement the facial features of some actresses whereas men are less affected. Look at Keeley Hawes (MacFadyen's real wife) in Wives and Daughters and you'd be wondering... how hideous!

  • lmao!! how they kiss lol but good story love the movie :D

  • i had butterflies from that last kiss. so beautiful~

  • I can barely type. The tears are blurring my vision too much!

  • The music in this scene is BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • I love Jane Austen's novels. The intensity and depth of feeling is quite enjoyable but is true to life if you sit and reflect on the theme. i love to reafd anfd apply her subject in my own life. It seems so real. It did seem as if it took forever for them to get together, the suspense was terrible, just like waiting for them to kiss and finally be together. It reminds me of Hamlett. Helena

  • u can see that he is a GOOD KISSER :) woow! :D i´m getting to like blonde men :D

  • I would give everything to live at victorian time...ofcourse knowing that I would meet my wentworth! :)

  • I love how Charles is talking himself to death and NObody is listening to him.

  • My 4yr old granddaughter has been watching this and listening to the music with me for the last few days....just now when we were watching the ending and the Captain and Anne hug and are finally so happy, she turned to me and gave me a great big hug...I am so pleased she appreciates this type of film and characters...(proud smile)

  • @GrammaBieber My son is the same....he is a romantic little fellow, got it from his daddy :o)

  • @GrammaBieber you mean you've been repeatedly watching it for days wow you must be a real austen fan

  • why they are living in Kellynch Hall; Does it belong to Mr Elliot

  • why they are living in Kellynch Hall; Does it belong to Mr Elliot

  • Just listening to this, without watching, brings such a smile to me...I grin everytime when she giggles in the end, such happiness, such love...Thank you for posting this wonderful piece...

  • Simply Amazing! Beautiful in every way... a Masterpiece from start to finish leaving you brealthless... ♥

  • As for that kiss, there was a point to it. That kiss defined the 8 yrs between them. She pretty much made the move on that kiss while Capt. Federick waited. It was to capture the longing of 8 yrs, to make memory of that one moment when both finally got what they desperately wanted and also his way of making her come to him when it was she who pulled the plug on their relationship yrs ago. I think he needed her to come to him so that he can bridge the gap & be certain that she was certain.

  • I don't believe romance today is as innocent as it was in regency England. I think very few found this kind of romance back then because many marriages were based on duty, rank, wealth & connection. Those who found this kind of romance were truly lucky. The kind of romance JA portrays in her books are those that were in her fantasies, just like the kind of romance we women fantacise abt. I think she gave her characters the kind of love she may not have been fortunate enough to have in real life.

  • even though they try to make Anne look plain in this movie, she still looks effing gorgeous! her skin is just absolutely flawless and it freakin' glows! OMG I AM SO JEALOUS!

  • I LOVE HAPPY ENDINGS! <3

  • I feel bad for Charles talking there while the other two are clearly having a conversation with their eyes. :)

  • What?! The preperation for the kiss took longer than the actual kiss! :/ Oh well(:

  • Persuasion is an enticing and intoxicating movie that had me wanting more from Sally and Rupert. I couldn't take my eyes off this movie from sart to finish because the chemistry between these two actors was beyond magnificent. This movie was excellently written, directed and perform as one of the best romance of our time (Thank You, Ms. Jane Austen).

  • Oh the L.O.V.E...................

  • Love it!

  • Oh my God, Persuasion is definitely my favourite book. And this movie, although it has its differences it was amazing ♥ The first kiss was a little akward but the last one made me feel like there's nothing you can't get if you are a good person, persevere and fight. Thank you for it :D

  • ok that kiss, what are they playing chicken or something?! XDD
