Sayyid Qutb inspired Ayman al-Zawahiri, who was the mentor of Bin Laden, per the BBC video that you recommended. However it was a quite wild stretch for Qutib to think that most of Islam’s problems have been caused by the West.

My impression from the BBC video is that the “selfish liberal individualism,” i.e., defacto atheism is what Qutb didn’t like. In fact, the video says it rather plainly. But atheism is not the basis upon which the U.S. was founded.

Sayyid Qutb inspired Ayman al-Zawahiri, who was the mentor of Bin Laden, per the BBC video that you recommended. I can agree the West has its own cultural problems which it tends to export as it sells its consumer technology around the world that others want to buy. However it was a quite wild stretch for Qutib to think that most of Islam’s problems have been caused by the West.

One thing I've noticed as I've gotten older is how easy it is for one or even just a few people to do a whole lot of evil, but how difficult it is for a whole lot more people to do as much that is commensurately good.

It certainly gives the impression that Qutib was religiously or ‘spiritually’ offended by various aspects of the 1950s U.S. secular popular culture that he saw while in the U.S. If that was not really the case, then I think that the propaganda aspect of the video triumphs over the elements of truth in it. But that is usually the intent with such things.

The greatest sin in traditional religion is the behavior done in the name of God that actually disgraces God and discredits him. Sadly, that kind of behavior coupled with complicity agreement and lack of any significant internal embarrassment is all too abundant in modern Islam. That is why the majority of Islam in Asia, Africa, and Europe, if not around the whole world, needs to undergo Reformation. Islam makes the points of atheism much more difficult to refute.

@wolfmagic72, For me, It’s not that per the U.S. founders, the people of a religion should not hold public Office, only that given the generally widespread low level of human development spiritually, it is better for ‘church and state’ to not be one in the same. Otherwise, if either the church or the state goes astray, there is little or nothing else in society for counterbalance or a corrective. One in the same, is the case however with traditional Islam.

It all comes down to. Religion, in any shape or form, cannot be integrated with modern day society or laws. If you actually look through the Bible, the Tora, the Qur'an - as the woman in this video clearly stated. You'd have to delete incredibly big chunks of texts. In regard to Christianity there are, all the various apocryphal texts and gospels which are available, only they were not included in the Bible for various and many good reasons. Some think things would be better if everyone would live in the childlike eternal now. That was probably somewhere in the garden of An Eden. Better to study the records of history and know something of what it is, than to not know where things that would otherwise seem to appear out of nowhere, came from.

Especially cause takiya is a word only used in Shia islam (12% of all 1 billion plus Muslims). Sunni Muslim scholars reject it, and most Sunni muslims who are not scholars (80%) don't even know what the word is..

Every totalitarian state except Muslim ones (because a religious government is the Muslim ideal) seeks to abolish religion. Stalin, for example, murdered virtually every member of the clergy, and came close to destroying all religion, in the Soviet Union. He understood that a totalitarian state cannot allow a competing allegiance. Similarly, Islam cannot tolerate competing allegiances within Islam. Muslims themselves kill more of their fellow Muslims than anyone, and treat women very badly.
