  • scared the crap outta me.

  • Ah! That gave me a fright! All the jumping out and screaming! Well, I loved the beginning, thanks for showing me your film. I definitely see the Bioshock influences. Good film, my man.

  • James, James, James...as I said in class, this gets my highest rating, MG. Most Groovy. Showed this at the family thanksgiving fiesta. All were impressed. I can't say the same for mother's cooking...Anyway, you have real talent -- and I am going to fraudulently lay claim to it. I see your speech going something like this..."I'd like to thank the Academy and the greatest film professor of all time...." Regards, DOC

  • God, that ending scared the shit out of me.

  • i can't say i exactly understood the picture.

i did like some of the shot composition, especially the close ups, along with the sound.

watch your exposure levels, however. these can usually be adjusted in post (assuming you shot this on video). and also, depth of field was absent. this is the one major thing that can make something look amateur. look into a dof adapter, or, adjust settings in post (with mattes and blur). i can see the audience appeal here. congratulations on the success

  • I can't stress it out enough, you're not supposed to understand it. I wanted to create this vibe of a dream. things dont makes sense. something that you get from Twlight Zone. the inconsistent exposure levels were done on purpose to hide certain things i didnt want seen or to enhance shots that didnt have the right lighting. Ya i hate the fact my camera doesnt have depth of field perception. theres so much more i could have done. but thank you. really appreciate it.

  • yes i did like the fact that it was a dream, making the confusing elements in a way, make sense. this is usually a very cheap way to do things.. "oh - it was all a dream", but it worked for this in a non-cheesy way. the only problem i had with that is the film ran rather long before we find out, so having the audience wonder "what's going on, am i supposed to understand this?" will take away from them enjoying the rest of the film. nevertheless, i think this is the best of your shorts

  • i just wanted to say thanks for your comments/this is a great film. the whole story thing doesn't seem all that relevant anyways, considering the fact that most mainstream horror films would be better off without a story

the editing especially stood out in my mind, considering that editing is so often overlooked and just plain brutal in films of people our age

    keep it up!

  • YES! Thank you so much for putting this up. This is the Documentary and Trailer 2nd place btw. Did you use a reference from Bioshock with the beginning and erie Under the Sea music since Bioshock started like that?

  • sorry didn't see the comment ^^;

I love that game! I'm excited for the second one to come out.

  • I actually thought this one was one of the only only good ones at the FTC media festival thing.

I thought the coolest part was when you showed the paintings getting darker, especially the second one :D

  • congrats

check out our entries on my youtube channel

btw my whole row jumped like 4 times while watching this, it was loud as hell. haha

  • Caught the last 45 seconds of this today at the competition. As soon as I got home I looked this up after much difficulty finding out what it was called. Very well done!

  • thank you. im glad it caught you're attention. did you do any film I might hae seen?

  • I'm a photo kid myself. If you wandered through there and saw a sunset cityscape on a red Longwood board, that was mine.

  • oh and i guess completely copying a videogame horribly earns you the right to take first place. way to go, clap it up

  • wow. you don't sound bitter or jealous at all. Out of all the films shown at the festival i thought Guilty Conscience was the best. I wasn't pretending that my film was anything more than what it really was. I wanted to capture the mood and atmosphere of an already cinematic game. but if you still want to scratch your head about why you didn't win first...it might be b/c the middle of your film dragged on and the ending wasn't clear enough.

  • okay, im the cinematographer and writer of Guilty Conscience and we took second place in the short film category, honestly this is a compilation of cheesy scare tactics with absolutely no storyline continuity. but i guess if you wanna pop things onto the screen and make an amatuer audience jump, you deserve the best film award. i dont even think this should have been an honorable mention.

  • somebody's mad cause they lost a generic film festival that meant nothing, aren't they?

    go cry moar please.

  • Jealousy!

Dude I didn't understand yours to be honest. The purpose of a horror movie is to scare people. I didn't really understand Apparition either but at least it served it's purpose. Dude I was 2nd place for trailer and Documentary and you don't see me bitching. Honestly, be happy for what you get.

  • o wow this movie looks a lot like bioshock

  • Again ur description is a lie

  • fantasic film, very very good

  • Very creepy and abstract, loved every minute of it.
