  • Bobby Darin is one of the all time great performers. He had it all, looks, charm, charisma and pure talent.. Love how he put his heart and soul into this performance of The Curtain Falls. You are truly missed Mr. Darin. Thanks for the music! <3

By the way, the words & music were by Sol Weinstein (1963.)

  • What a performance. What a performer. Never heard this before but it's top of my pops. Sung with BD's characteristic mastery that balances power and control, showmanship and sincerity. One of the great singing entertainers of the 20th century, way too good to be catalogued under pop singer.

  • The one thing that seperated Bobby Darin from Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Junior is that Darin knew he was living on borrowed time. He put all he had into his music and movies; knowing he'd never have a second chance.

  • I'm so Blessed to have lived during this man's lifetime. What a voice--what a talent--what a Heart. Walden Robert Cossato, you were so great, & so missed! Kevin Spacey did a magnificent job with this song--and the film of your life. Wolfsky9,

  • My friend has been gone for about as long as he lived and I still miss him every day.

    Lee Barnett

  • I have been a professional singer for 22 years, classical and musicals. This will be the last song I ever sing on the professional stage...that I've already decided.......probably happen in about 8 years...I think 30 yrs is enough time to be treading the boards...don't want to outstay my welcome! Bravo Bobby...a great song beautifully delivered.

  • bobby darin was not just a great performer but also a sharp cookie who would have been horrified to see the state this country is in. what an obama man he would have been--

  • Bobby Freakin' Darin! Period! Just fantastic!

  • this song is going to be played at my funeral!

  • i've been trying to find the arrangement for this. i would love to be able to use it for auditions. if anyone happens to know where it can be purchased, i would appreciate it so much.

  • @EnjoyTheRideOfLife There is a version of this song on CDG for karaoke singers.

  • Mojo- I wish I would have thought of that at my dad's funeral back in 2004. I can't even read thru these posts without tearing up.

  • @cffulton there is a version of this song on karaoke.

  • What a great talent and a song perfectly suited to his voice... and his life. This is one of the truly classic recordings of all time for me. Thank you.

  • Wonderful tribute to the greatest entertainer ever.

  • I am a professional entertainer, and this song touches my soul. It's how I feel everytime I am in front of a crowd. The words are now my life.

  • simply divine. great quality by the way. thank you a delightful treat.

  • this music is way better than the crap we have now

  • precious video, God bless you always Bobby for all the wonderful music you left us all to enjoy...it doesn't get any better than this...I am going to raise my little grandaughters to appreciate real music like this. RIP, xoxoxoxo Love you.

  • Still wonderful after all the years-and if I was lucky to do it again boy would I still want you to be the best part of it my precious !!!! Thank You God FOR TAMMY TRUE !!!!

  • Bobby Darin and his music has continues to be an influence on me. I fell in love with him when I was a young girl growning up in the 60's, and I still listen to his music. He truly was made for this! There is no one out there who can sing like Bobby could sing! Bobby.... you're legacy and your music will live forever!

  • Im glad Kevin Spacey made the movie Beyond the Sea, because if it weren't for that film I'd probably would've never heard of the amazing Bobby Darin. I also like how this song is about Darin leaving behind his audience.

  • I have a question,Did The Nelson Riddle Orchestra back him up on this? It sounds just like them.

  • @Airsoftcleaner No. Bobby never used Nelson Riddle - had his own talented guys - same era, same type sound, though.

  • I often said that American Idol should end every season with this song because it is so perfect but it will be even more fitting this season with Simon leaving.

  • @Airsoftcleaner i was allowed to sing it as a filler when a play I was in had some tech problems. I play it after every performance on my way home.

  • @EnjoyTheRideOfLife Cool, This song is just the best Good Night close out song ever written

  • Blessings. OMG, what a soul singer...so much emotion..how does a fella sing like this??? Blessings to Bobby D's soul living on forever...and the MUSIC and the legend...all gifts!! Thank you for posting.

  • does anybody know where i could get the sheet music for this song?

  • Dear Barry. Did you ever happen to see a karaoke for this wonderful song? I couldn't so far.

    Cheers, Wolf in Kyoto/Japan (=wolf175 and wolf1750)

  • @wolf1750 I found a version of this as a CDG on karaoke.

  • I still can't get over how great this is! (as i softly sing along)

  • @stomachfluid this is great//i love bobby

  • Bobby Darin will get the GRAMMY LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD ON Jan 30, 2010! Bobby was a true legend.

RIP Bobby : He passed away 36 years ago today December 20, 1973.

  • boby darin is a legend

  • Thanks for the memory...my act as it was back then, Bill Harrah's car collection...our ride in one, on loan from Mr. Harrah...a Rolls, Bobby drove, stopped, looked, I remember his smile...they spelled...Bobby Darrin, the letters, we watched, as they were set into the Marquee...for the opening that night at Harrah's Reno, Nevada.

  • @russocomedy Wait, you were with Bobby Darin? I love what you wrote here! I like how you described his smile at seeing his name on the Marquee. Thats some 'precious' nostalgia of the likes I cant even fathom my friend! What a incrediable honor it is to have spent any amount of time with "Ol' Mackie" himself!! God bless you friend!!

  • Bobby Darin - puts Sinatra and all of them to shame. Nobody put more heart and soul into their performances, ever! I can't get thru this song without tears. If only I could have seen him life, what I would give! God Love you, too Bobby, and so do I.

  • Sinatra is still awesome, but Darin's charm killed every other musician back then.

  • @JoanOfArc14 That's hard to say because Bobby idolized Frank Sinatra

  • @JoanOfArc14 We will never have another true and great artist like Bobby Darin.

  • @JoanOfArc14 I can't get through this song without tears either. He was the BEST!

  • @JoanOfArc14 Oh come on. Darin is a great legend, but Sinatra is a bigger one. You ask many people now days which person they have heard of, Darin or Sinatra? Near about everyone will say Sinatra and knows of his songs cause it plays often on tv. I knew about Sinatra since a little kid when I wasn't even a fan of jazz, and im just discovering Darin now, He's still awesome though.

  • @JoanOfArc14 He could easily have Sinatra just for breakfast....

You re so right JoanOfArc.....so right......

    Bobby Reigns...

  • this scene in beyond the sea, when spacey is singing ...its so sad. if you havent seen the movie, please do.

  • makes me sleepy in a good way like a lullaby

  • Very nice video. Best singer ever!

  • Wow!! what a great talent. Singers many....quality entertainers that take your breath away...only a handful.

Thanks to Kevin Spacey for bringing his music to the younger generations.

  • With American Idol ending this is the perfect song!!!!!!!!!!

  • With American Idol ending next week its time to que it up

  • Beautiful!

    Such a smooth beautiful voice!!

  • Fabulous

  • what an entertainer,,i loved him.,,so

befitting for Danny Gans,,to sing this..

oh my god,,so true how these talented

people die so young.... the best ...

  • Rest in Peace Danny Gans

  • Wow. The greatest.

  • Again I say they should close out every season of American Idol with tis song.

  • Thanks

  • There has been and still are some great entertainers on this Earth, but there has been none better than Bobby. Thanks for doing this one.

  • beautifull!

  • You may not be Spielberg but ya said Bobby Darin pretty damn good.

  • So sad, so sweet, so beautiful. Bobby Forever!

  • this is truly awesome.

  • Thank you so much for this video. I've been a Bobby Darin fan for most of my life. So sad that his life ended so young. He was the consummate entertainer and this generation would do well to see and know that.

  • Great Video! This is one of my favorite Bobby Darin songs. I am an amateur singer who is absolutely hooked on Bobby's music. I hope in the next year to perform a tribute show featuring Bobby's music. The Good Life, A Nightingale Sang In Berkely Square, Moon River, Cry Me A River are all great songs sung by Bobby.

I want to expose this generation to this fantastic man's music. Great singer, performer, song writer and producer. Sinatra was more popular, but Bobby was more talented

  • So True...carry this wonderful music onward!

  • amen!!!

    awesome! thanks.

  • He had so much to cram into his short life and he did it. Great singer, great actor and a great performer.

  • Sad that the good die young, and even sadder that sometimes veryoutstanding talents die way too young. Bobby was one of a kind!

  • Sad that the good die young, and even sadder that sometimes very magnificent talents die way too young!

  • They Should Close out every season of American Idol with this song

  • This is such a beautiful song, and Bobby does such a great job, this song is just proof what a wonderful, clear voice Bobby had such a talent who left us way too early. Thanks for posting I love this song.

  • I re-heard this again and all I can say is

this: Mr. Darin is at his best talking to his public and fans through his music which makes him Super Special to me. He is very sincere and honest, you can hear it in his voice and rendition of this song. God bless

    him.

  • This is so beautiful. If he wrote this he has

all my admiration. It's lovely and beautifully

sung. Thank God, for Mr. Darin. I think

he's great. I can never hear or get enough of him. I could hear this over and over again.

The Band is so good as well. I love the Big

Band sound. How we love and miss you, but we

know you are happy at last. God bless you.

  • Thank you all so very much for all the wonderful comments and support for this tribute video to Bobby.

There's a lot of people I look up to with much respect and admiration, but none as much as Bobby Darin. I want to keep his music and spirit alive.

If Bobby Darin's estate reads this could you please try to contact me. I'd appreciate it very much.

Thanks so much, and God bless.

  • @HermoineCopkov - actually, this song was written by Jack Benny. He used it to close his show for a half season, and then the network told him it was too depressing for a closer of a comedy, however Jack continued to use it to close his stage show for another 7 years. In 1961, Bobby bought the rights to the song from Benny, made a few minor changes to the lyrics , and began ending his stage show with it. I recall hearing it once at the close of Bobby's television show.

  • @HermoineCopkov

words and music by Sol Weinstein!

  • Philforvik, I'm sorry to say you're absolutely wrong. My partner of 20 years, Sol Weinstein, wrote the song for Bobby in 1961, which he used as a closing number for his night club act. When we wrote a Bob Hope TV special in 1978 we used it as a closing for his show. It worked well for Hope, but is will always be Bobby's song.

  • this song is so amazing and bobby is one of the greatest nightclub entertainers ever!!

  • They Should Close Out every Season of American Idol With this song

  • Imnotspielberg, thank you for posting this song, I have one of Bobby's cds with this song and I truly love the song..I have been a big Darin fan most of my life, which trust me is a long time and it is nice to see that after all these years people still love him , and new ones are finding him. great choice of pictures love the video thanks for posting...

  • ImNot,

This video is poignant and beautiful......simply amazing. THANK YOU for this!

I adore BD and wish I had been around to see him perform live. What a man, what a voice, what a talent....a pure class act all the way.

  • No problem Spelberg. I love this song so much. If i could have one song played at my funeral.. this is the one that always comes to mind. Its so amazing.

  • Truly sorry for disabling everthing to all those that love Bobby as much as I do....

Please accept my apologies, I was away from here for a while and just read your comments....People were being pretty nasty and rude...I felt it a dishonour to Mr.Darin who I admire and respect greatly, hopefully these people will cease causing trouble.

    Thank you

  • extremely well put video my friend.

  • I agree, what a great song. And Bobby...what a fantastic guy. Sadly missed. Thanks everyone for the very kind comments.

    barry

  • My writing partner of 18 years, Sol Weinstein wrote this great song for Bobby and no one has ever sung it better.

  • Many thanks to your partner. This was one of Bobby's best songs by far.... and I'm a big fan. It also made a great close to the movie as well.

  • howbern, this song was origanally written for bob hope, the lyrics were changed for bobby,

  • Beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing. I got to see one of his last performances in 1973, before he passed. I'll never forget it. Brilliant entertainer.

  • Simply wonderful....I loved what you put together here in memory of Bobby.

  • Wonderful homage to Bobby, thank you!

  • Beyond The Sea ?

I loved it. I thought Spacey did a remarkable job as actor, producer, director. I think too many people got hung up because of his age...and that's too bad really, because it was a very good film....worthy of an Oscar in my opinion.

    Barry

  • gotta ask, whadya think of the spacey biopic?

  • still and always dreamin on,,,,what a great guy...thanks for this.
