Bobby Darin is one of the all time great performers. He had it all, looks, charm, charisma and pure talent.. Love how he put his heart and soul into this performance of The Curtain Falls. You are truly missed Mr. Darin. Thanks for the music! <3
By the way, the words & music were by Sol Weinstein (1963.)
What a performance. What a performer. Never heard this before but it's top of my pops. Sung with BD's characteristic mastery that balances power and control, showmanship and sincerity. One of the great singing entertainers of the 20th century, way too good to be catalogued under pop singer.
The one thing that seperated Bobby Darin from Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Junior is that Darin knew he was living on borrowed time. He put all he had into his music and movies; knowing he'd never have a second chance.
I'm so Blessed to have lived during this man's lifetime. What a voice--what a talent--what a Heart. Walden Robert Cossato, you were so great, & so missed! Kevin Spacey did a magnificent job with this song--and the film of your life. Wolfsky9,
I have been a professional singer for 22 years, classical and musicals. This will be the last song I ever sing on the professional stage...that I've already decided.......probably happen in about 8 years...I think 30 yrs is enough time to be treading the boards...don't want to outstay my welcome! Bravo Bobby...a great song beautifully delivered.
bobby darin was not just a great performer but also a sharp cookie who would have been horrified to see the state this country is in. what an obama man he would have been--
i've been trying to find the arrangement for this. i would love to be able to use it for auditions. if anyone happens to know where it can be purchased, i would appreciate it so much.
What a great talent and a song perfectly suited to his voice... and his life. This is one of the truly classic recordings of all time for me. Thank you.
precious video, God bless you always Bobby for all the wonderful music you left us all to enjoy...it doesn't get any better than this...I am going to raise my little grandaughters to appreciate real music like this. RIP, xoxoxoxo Love you.
Still wonderful after all the years-and if I was lucky to do it again boy would I still want you to be the best part of it my precious !!!! Thank You God FOR TAMMY TRUE !!!!
Bobby Darin and his music has continues to be an influence on me. I fell in love with him when I was a young girl growning up in the 60's, and I still listen to his music. He truly was made for this! There is no one out there who can sing like Bobby could sing! Bobby.... you're legacy and your music will live forever!
Im glad Kevin Spacey made the movie Beyond the Sea, because if it weren't for that film I'd probably would've never heard of the amazing Bobby Darin. I also like how this song is about Darin leaving behind his audience.
I often said that American Idol should end every season with this song because it is so perfect but it will be even more fitting this season with Simon leaving.
Blessings. OMG, what a soul singer...so much emotion..how does a fella sing like this??? Blessings to Bobby D's soul living on forever...and the MUSIC and the legend...all gifts!! Thank you for posting.
Bobby Darin received the GRAMMY LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD TONIGHT! His son Dodd Darin gave a beautiful speech on his behalf in yesterday's ceremony. It's on You Tube under " Bobby Darin Lifetime Award". Bobby was a versatile, multitalented genius!
Thanks for the memory...my act as it was back then, Bill Harrah's car collection...our ride in one, on loan from Mr. Harrah...a Rolls, Bobby drove, stopped, looked, I remember his smile...they spelled...Bobby Darrin, the letters, we watched, as they were set into the Marquee...for the opening that night at Harrah's Reno, Nevada.
@russocomedy Wait, you were with Bobby Darin? I love what you wrote here! I like how you described his smile at seeing his name on the Marquee. Thats some 'precious' nostalgia of the likes I cant even fathom my friend! What a incrediable honor it is to have spent any amount of time with "Ol' Mackie" himself!! God bless you friend!!
Bobby Darin - puts Sinatra and all of them to shame. Nobody put more heart and soul into their performances, ever! I can't get thru this song without tears. If only I could have seen him life, what I would give! God Love you, too Bobby, and so do I.
@JoanOfArc14 Oh come on. Darin is a great legend, but Sinatra is a bigger one. You ask many people now days which person they have heard of, Darin or Sinatra? Near about everyone will say Sinatra and knows of his songs cause it plays often on tv. I knew about Sinatra since a little kid when I wasn't even a fan of jazz, and im just discovering Darin now, He's still awesome though.
Thank you so much for this video. I've been a Bobby Darin fan for most of my life. So sad that his life ended so young. He was the consummate entertainer and this generation would do well to see and know that.
Great Video! This is one of my favorite Bobby Darin songs. I am an amateur singer who is absolutely hooked on Bobby's music. I hope in the next year to perform a tribute show featuring Bobby's music. The Good Life, A Nightingale Sang In Berkely Square, Moon River, Cry Me A River are all great songs sung by Bobby.
I want to expose this generation to this fantastic man's music. Great singer, performer, song writer and producer. Sinatra was more popular, but Bobby was more talented
This is such a beautiful song, and Bobby does such a great job, this song is just proof what a wonderful, clear voice Bobby had such a talent who left us way too early. Thanks for posting I love this song.
Hello folks, Thank you all so much for all your kind words and thoughts regarding this video, and not only that but helping keeping Bobby's music and spirit alive.
played this at my dad's funeral - the lyrics were so right! dad was a darin fan from 1959 right through to the day he died in 2007 .NOW I'MTHE DARIN FAN!
this: Mr. Darin is at his best talking to his public and fans through his music which makes him Super Special to me. He is very sincere and honest, you can hear it in his voice and rendition of this song. God bless
@HermoineCopkov - actually, this song was written by Jack Benny. He used it to close his show for a half season, and then the network told him it was too depressing for a closer of a comedy, however Jack continued to use it to close his stage show for another 7 years. In 1961, Bobby bought the rights to the song from Benny, made a few minor changes to the lyrics , and began ending his stage show with it. I recall hearing it once at the close of Bobby's television show.
Philforvik, I'm sorry to say you're absolutely wrong. My partner of 20 years, Sol Weinstein, wrote the song for Bobby in 1961, which he used as a closing number for his night club act. When we wrote a Bob Hope TV special in 1978 we used it as a closing for his show. It worked well for Hope, but is will always be Bobby's song.
