It has occurred to me that if the votebot is creating accounts and one-starring videos from each of these accounts using the same machine, then it should be possible for YouTube to see how many times a rating for a specific video is issued from one IP address.

Then it would be easy to identify an IP address issuing a votebot attack, and block that IP address.

Why isn't YouTube doing something like this?

i blame youtube. They should have some system in place to stop people from creating 100 accounts at once, They should make you have to enter your city and zip etc as well as other fail safes. How do I fix this because I just deleted one of my videos and reinstalled it I only have like 6 Subscribers and I see spicks on my graph.

The one I reloaded had 5*s ratings then in one day it went to 1* the only thing I could think of was delete and reload but that Deleted all the nice comments and everything.

Can someone check my stats and tell me if the older ones have been voteboted I see spike but Im not sure if it or not.

Youtube needs to change the rating systems to make it more like Ebay's. There should be a separate rating for picture quality, content and like/dislike. This combined with use of captcha or some other technology will produce much more useful ratings.

Youtube should construct scripts to counter votebotting. Even a simple statistical analysis and Votebot-report mechanism would be great, allowing only plausible statistics to enable the script (such as those in the video; not difficult to program), to disallow abuse of the system, and allow an admin at Youtube to review and issue warnings, then bannings to users who institute this video, channel, & user -harming bullshit.

I have a problem with the theory of votebots. It's possible that some users use them, but you cannot say every spike in 5-star or 1-star ratings comes from them. News aggregation sites will lead to many individual users voting based on the culture of the site.

Yes it's a script that would take a programmer no time at all to write. YT cannot stop the scripts without adding something like a captcha screen to figure out if the star is being clicked by a person or a script. However YT can automatically monitor the logs for suspisious statistics (as shown in the video) and more importantly automatically log the identity of the account(s) that are creating the suspisious statistics - Yes, I am qualified as a computer scientist!

A reasonable idea but what I'm trying to say is that YT could automatically monitor voting, flaging, rating, commenting and use statistical methods such as outlined in the vid to pump out a report on suspicious behaviour. Or simply look at the stats the channel owner reports to them.

The bot account can easily be tracked down by YT and can be deleted as soon as it starts up. My guess is that bot's count as page views that advertisers are unwittingly paying for, so I don't expect things to change
