  • pretty out there words of violence

  • @wellwellwellall life isn't about sunshine and puppies, why would our Lord be, who is the ultimate source of reality and life? i think we gain a better understanding of life itself when we think of God as encompassing ALL "seasons under the sun" as it is said in ecclesiastes...

  • @wellwellwellall if you understood Greek as well, you would know that these are called "Hymns of Ascent" or anavathmi. it typically culminates at the end with the reading of the orthros Gospel, but you might note that the words in the beginning of the hymn are generally "pained" and concern troubling matters, and continues to end on meditations of the mystery of the Godhead. from "mundane" -> "supra-mundane". this is how the psalms themselves are also structured. it's quite beautiful.

  • @wellwellwellall i.e. one might look at these kind of hymns as a spectrum or the evolution of human emotion in its encounter with the Divine.

  • The Lampadarios is excellent as well.

  • Terrific, thank you.

  • This is great! Who is chanting/what Church was this chanted it?

  • @rossboss1 The chanter is Panagiotis Neoxwritis, a very gifted chanter.

  • Thank God for his mercy when we trust in his presence. The Lord bless and keep the Eastern Orthodox church as well as all of Christ's followers.
