Maybe you did not read the English books?? Did you read it in your own language? Because translators have the bad habit of adjusting or even (if possible) translating the names and places to the target language. For example: In Dutch Hermoine is called Hermelein, Snape is called Sneep, Dumbledore is called Perkamentus... (I could go on for a while).
That is one of the reasons why I don't like reading those books in Dutch.
