im with you kinda gangster if you put that shit on my car id come ( if it didnt burn down my shit first) back not just for a refund. know what i mean do it right or dont do it at all. that harbor freight torch lights cigarettes or maybe shrink heatshrink tubing.there great for small tasks $10 solder follows the heat id go with benz-omatic job as said. CLEAN joints PRE TIN all mating surfaces light flux paste too. those terminals have all sorts of oil and dirt and chemical residue you cant see.
That might look good outside but you have zero penetration inside the lug and around conductors because you only heated the upper portion. You need to heat both wire and the terminal, and push to solder into conductors to make a joint.
Otherwise crimping with hydraulic crimp pliers is the best and safest way to terminate those big ass cables. I'm a cheap ass and I just crimp it first with vice then make a solder JOINT.
I tried a Butane torch 200 & it don't get hot enough to heat it from the back. It cost C$35, so i got a Torch with a big tank. don't know if that's hot enough.
That's it? I tried a hammer, But Didn't look good. That Solder looks way better. What's that torch you have there, I need one like that, whats it called?
@zZZzzzSnooze2nd you can get a propane little tank with a regulator for 10 dollars, that gets hot enough to even desoiider terminals, I did about 12 today
I am getting ready to do the Big 3 on my car and was looking on how to crimp 0 gauge but, I think I like this method better. So does the solder actual go down between the strands inside the ring terminal or is it just at the end?
For high strand count wires soldering works better because when you crimp the wires you can break strands and regardless of how good of a job you do crimping it can come loose soldering is a much more permanent bond between the wire and the terminal
actually, when you solder it, it makes a better connection, and essentially bonds the wire to the lug. if it were me, i would crimp it, then solder it.
wow thanks i knew how to do it but i was always burning myself cuz i hold it with my hand and i have to hold it way down the wire thanks for the vise trick im gonna use that instead of my hands next time lol
Hmmm.... I've always used solder joints that aren't open on the top side (facing the terminal end). With those, you pack them in solder, melt it with a torch, and shove the cable in letting it cool in-place. Those connectors are more expensive and harder to attach to circuit breakers, though. You have to grind them down to fit. I'll have to try these next time.
Nice soldering skills! I thought I was the only one. I was thinking you were going to use a lil slodering iron to do it and laugh my ass off but you know what's up! Good man, every quality builder solders thier shit!
That's the solder brudda. Prolly the standard 60/40 lead and tin respectively. There's worse and better solders too. The more tin, the higher the price, but the better the connection and finish and longevity. Any solder will be better than none! hope this helps!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
if you had the proper crimp tool, you wouldnt need to do that bullshit
