The 1980's movies, the best. No fast editing, special effects, wirework, CGI, fast forward and the most biggest crap to make movies with, green screen. Hollywood, we're not watching movies with a smile on are faces anymore.
This is the most realistic and best movie of the series. Rambo should have had job offers , respect and praise. He was a war hero. Instead he was treated l like shit by people that he fought to protect.
Vietnam was an unpopular war. None of the men who served in Vietnam wanted to be there. Men who fought for their country were treated like shit upon their return to america. They were spit upon and called baby killer, harrassed just about everywhere they went. They served their country and did what they were told to do. Many vietnam vets suffered from PTSD. The VA offered shitty care and the US govenrment didnt care about the vets afterwards.
This was released October 22,1982. So basically its 30 years old now. lets all remember and celebrate on that date by watching this!! Firstblood 1982-2012
Along with very minor periodic blemishes on the picture and a little graininess, the most critical part, in my mind, to maintaining the old-school feel to a classic film such as this is the FADED picture. Someone PLEASE tell me that Blu Ray will not correct these "necessary" flaws completely and make this old-school masterpiece look as if it was just filmed last week
one the best films all times… I loves the beginning where it with the woman speaks… it is so honestly and along-feeling… my heart and my soul goes hand in hand….more silvester stallone thanks...ich liebe diesen anfang ....könnte es stundenlang anschauen...peace out
I remember my dad forcing me to watch this, and like i would say "Rambo? That sounds like a stupid movie" after watching 10 minutes of this movie, i was like "Holy fuck, this movie is good"
@XcrazyX10 I miss the 1980's action movies. No all we have is superhero movies. I would rather see Rambo 5 than Batman 3. Or how about new action movies? Something like Rambo?
@XcrazyX10 Stallone at one point said he is considering Rambo 5. If it happens, I really hope he stops it at 5. PArt 4 was REALLY good too and all, but going past is just butchering the series
THE GREATEST ACTION MOVIE OF OUR TIME. Compelling plot and characters, awesome photography and stunt work, no CGI and and an important message that we did not heed. Sly was a ripped Victor Mature and this scene bonds you to his character at the outset. I hope I am wrong but I anticipate history will be no kinder to our present generation of service men and women but whoever will be hard pushed to remake or retell this epic.
there's something about italian-american blood.. al pacino, bon jovi, stallone, everyone came from italian fathers... jeez...it's like it's a perfect genetic match and I just realized it today... lol I might be wrong but I believe there's something between italian-american blood :D
The original and best. Great character acting from Stallone himself. The movie sticks to you because of who he is. This is based on a novel which i need to check out.
Lol you know what's the most worst of all, all those fucking hippies who shouted at the propably traumatized soldiers when they finally came back from vietnam... the british soldiers got the same when returning from afghanistan, but they were w being shouted by some stupid muslims which is totally unacceptable
THis will always be one of my most favorite movies of all time. THis was the best Rambo. and i thougth i was going to dislike the 4th, but i felt there was more of this Rambo in the 4th rambo movie than in 2 and 3. Long live J. Rambo! Even though... read the book.
It's so nice to see so many people giving varying interpretations of this movie. That in itself says just how great this movie is compared to the sequels. There's a real sense of moral ambiguity in this movie where there are no "good guys" or "bad guys".
In my opinion this is better then Rocky. This was the first Sylvester Stallone movie I saw when i was a little kid. I always loved the music and the setting...too bad they had to make him in just some soldier that just kills and kills in the sequals.
I didn't really like the ending though. They could of made a part 2 that is just right after first blood, where Rambo escapes the police station with the help of Richard Crenna. But just a great film, one of my favorites.
Will become a classic in time, fairly true to the book also, i love the bleakness of the mountain scenes it is an uncomfortable environment in as much as civilian life is uncomfortable for Rambo therefore we build empathy for the character. The themes throughout the film reflect Americas attitude towards the soldiers returning from an unsupported war and the publics inabillity to decide how they should react. Rambo is a by product of that decision making process.
True its not mindless violence at all, it reflects the dual nature of the american govt which does not know how to redeem itself to its war heroes. War heroes should be worshipped not harassed , the us govt. tries to cover up its ass by making them the scapegoat. The guy Rambo is searching for named Delmare Berry , died from cancer due to Agent Orange exposure during Vietnam war. Agent orange is a herbicide meant to deprive Vietnam of its forest cover.
@booblover779 I am TOTALLY in agreement with you; I used to love going to the movies on Fri or Sat. nights to see the Action movies w/ Sly and Arnold and all the rest that where in the Expendables. This is one of my all time Favorite action/drama movies along with the First Predator. The movies of today a pure Garbage along with the music of today. This young generation doesn't even know what makes great movies & music. I could watch this First Blood movie and never get tired of watching it.
I really like this fil over all the Rambo movie's because its more then just violence, there is a story and plot and so many other things that make it so great. Just finished reading the book which i thought was amazing as well, First Blood by David Morrel
Sylvester Stallone, gives the public the best of not both worlds, but the best of a 100 worlds (ie, He is compassionate, makes all his movies believable, shows excellent personal character without the mancho arrogance found in other action movies, very smart gentleman, all his movies involve personal risks of his own(eg. in this showing the cliff he is hanging on us real), he tries to give a positive message in current world issues--portraying Vietnam Vets' agony in the war. He is humble.
For those of you unfamiliar with American History, when the woman says "that orange stuff" she is referring to "Agent Orange," a weapon developed by the Americans during the Vietnam War used primarily as a herbicide to kill off vegitation in order to expose Viet Cong hiding places
My thoughts. I always thought it was a better story if you watched First Blood, then read the books instead of the sequel movies, the story fit and flowed better. I actually didn't like the novel First Blood (Rambo dies in the end) but liked the rest of the books in the series.
All the elements bind together to make this a thoroughly powerful Motion picture . One of the finest examples of neo-action thrillers to come out of Hollywood in the 80's . Stallone shines in the role . This opening scene really drives home the horrors of what the Vietnam war did to the soul of America and its people . The soundtrack just adds to the sheer artistry of the whole production .
One thing about this good movie is that it do not have a female cast played along with Rambo . A good movie do not mean you must have a male female main cast .
first blood still the best of all rambo series, I like movie storyline of man against all odds, not some immortal super hero killing everything as easy as breath the air
A word to hollywood writers producers...When you make a movie sucsses is based on 3 important things
1) Make sure the story line is original NOT A HALF ASS REMAKE STOP REMAKING CRAPPY MOVIES
2) Make sure you have a good music score
3) And finaly pick the right actor to go long with the part SLY STALLONE is a master at his craft he should have won an oscar...You can tell his subtelness when talking to delmar's mom and then going to a feirce warrior later on in the movie that is a brilliants
this cop that arrested him was a korean war vet and so was the redneck asshole who sprayed him with the water hose. youd think they would show respect and love to a fellow vet. he was a green beret the toughest most elite special forces unit in the world. rambo was the best. he should have had job offers from every law enforcement agencey in the world. or fedreal fighting unit.
@veeseee128 very true you see that a lot today, elite soldiers finding employment were they can use there skills. I believe that Vietnam was totally different from our Iraq and afganistan involvement. I think that only a few soldiers mad it out of Vietnam stable and the country as a whole is much more supportive of the troops now then at that point.
Rambo should gotten aanother medal and a good job. Vietnam was an unpopular war but i think there were people who did honor the soldiers comming back. I dont understand why he was treated this way. he served his country with pride. the cop should have offered him a meal and said thank you. he was a congressional medal of honor winner.
one of my favorite movies it has very motional scenes and just the right amount of them and enough action. and also feels like a tribute to soldiers who have had a hard time living in normal sosiaty.
@darkmetaly If you are over the age of ten years, you should know your sentence should read: "One of my favorite movies. It has very emotional scenes and just the right amount of them, and enough action. Also, it feels like a tribute to soldiers who have had a hard time living in normal society".......just so you know your grammar, punctuation and spelling define your intelligence in print....something to think about.
@mihailolord Obviously, you are yet another grammar drop-out. You 'sentence' should read as follows: "Stupid American pussies used an agent orange to kill innocent villagers...The God remembers everything."....your grammar, punctuation and spelling define who you are and your intelligence level in print...just so you know.
This scene is genius, it's remarkable how quickly a film can establish the cold reality of a film and the plight of a character in a totally genuine way, and do it on an almost non-existent budget. How much did this scene cost to film, compared to the opening sequences of other movies? I love Rambo's character, he is troubled yes, but we are easily able to sympathize with him right away. This scene also established that he's actually a really nice and respectful guy.
This Movie is what got awareness going for vietnam vets and the bullshit they encounterted when they returned from nam, altough im not a vet the ending is very upsetting to me.Thank you to all veterans and a job well done.
And this song at the beggening is so beautiful....almost makes me cry and in some way tells you that Rambo is going to have a sad ending in this story!
This movie, the story line, the music score, and the acting in this movie is haunting.....I used to get depressed as a child watching this.....as my Dad was in Vietnam. Now I can watch it as a grown man and appreciate the awesome acting and the wonderful music score. Awesome movie!
@beachboy51971 Have to agree with ya on that . I watched this with my Dad when I was 10 years old and thought it was amazing . The action scenes especially , I had never seen anything like it up to then . An extraordinary piece of moviemaking .
man that cop who wouldnt let john rambo to go and get something to eat. what a douche and what a misstake that was LOL the sad part is that there is probably towns in america who acts that way to strangers
sometimes I wish rambo keep walking and never turn back... then when I see cops shitface I wish rambo slice his throat of that pig. That movie became success cause represents the real face of "law"
I've worked in movies since I was 17. I still remember how I looked forward to visits to my cousins house because they had a VCR (we're talking 1983 here) and their Dad loved good movies. Really good movies. So we got to watch movies like this while all my relatives got hammered in the living room. Most of my love of good writing stems for seeing moves like this. Even though I was only ten or eleven, I knew the story was incredible. Feelings, action, heart.
@WillPG1212 im in total agreement i mean sure 2,3 and 4 are fun in all but they dont seem real, or its like you actually know John in this film and feel for him!
My most favourite movie of all time. Great story, great music, great acting, great set location. There is no other movie quite like it.

3) And finaly pick the right actor to go long with the part SLY STALLONE is a master at his craft he should have won an oscar...You can tell his subtelness when talking to delmar's mom and then going to a feirce warrior later on in the movie that is a brilliants

this cop that arrested him was a korean war vet and so was the redneck asshole who sprayed him with the water hose. youd think they would show respect and love to a fellow vet. he was a green beret the toughest most elite special forces unit in the world. rambo was the best. he should have had job offers from every law enforcement agencey in the world. or fedreal fighting unit.
veeseee128 1 year ago
@veeseee128 very true you see that a lot today, elite soldiers finding employment were they can use there skills. I believe that Vietnam was totally different from our Iraq and afganistan involvement. I think that only a few soldiers mad it out of Vietnam stable and the country as a whole is much more supportive of the troops now then at that point.

Rambo should gotten aanother medal and a good job. Vietnam was an unpopular war but i think there were people who did honor the soldiers comming back. I dont understand why he was treated this way. he served his country with pride. the cop should have offered him a meal and said thank you. he was a congressional medal of honor winner.

one of my favorite movies it has very motional scenes and just the right amount of them and enough action. and also feels like a tribute to soldiers who have had a hard time living in normal sosiaty.
darkmetaly 1 year ago
@darkmetaly If you are over the age of ten years, you should know your sentence should read: "One of my favorite movies. It has very emotional scenes and just the right amount of them, and enough action. Also, it feels like a tribute to soldiers who have had a hard time living in normal society".......just so you know your grammar, punctuation and spelling define your intelligence in print....something to think about.

@kayanslo relax english is not my primary language and I know my grammer is bad. Im not perfect no reason to point that out to me.

stupid american pussies used a agent orange to kill inocent villagers.... The God remmebers everything
mihailolord 1 year ago

The musical score by the late Jerry Goldsmith is timeless.

This movie, the story line, the music score, and the acting in this movie is haunting.....I used to get depressed as a child watching this.....as my Dad was in Vietnam. Now I can watch it as a grown man and appreciate the awesome acting and the wonderful music score. Awesome movie!
beachboy51971 1 year ago
@beachboy51971 Have to agree with ya on that . I watched this with my Dad when I was 10 years old and thought it was amazing . The action scenes especially , I had never seen anything like it up to then . An extraordinary piece of moviemaking .
Smudgeroon74 1 year ago
@Smudgeroon74 Yes, for sure.....in my opinion one of the best action/drama movies ever made......Stallone was perfect in this role.

Paralyzer 1 year ago
sometimes I wish rambo keep walking and never turn back... then when I see cops shitface I wish rambo slice his throat of that pig. That movie became success cause represents the real face of "law"

eugene680: Agreed. Filmed in Hope, Canada just across the US border. Much of Washington state looks similar.
And Jerry Goldsmiths score really captureded the spirit of the movie.

People always think of Rambo has a badass-gory-violent-110%action movie...
but this movie was so much more...
the sequels lost alot of what made this one so great (i find), and thats a shame.
