  • I love Don Bluth, He performs more magic in a few frames than Disney or Miyazaki do in a whole movie

  • This should have put E.L.O on to super stardom in the states but instead the film was a complete pile of shite shame .....

  • Oh, Don Bluth. Just gotta reuse your animation in everything you make, don't you?

  • I think it is sad I am single, and watching this video on 02/14/2012... never mind the date, I'm single and I'm watching this video. Breaks my heart to have so much love and nobody to give it to. :/

  • It's because of this song I'm eternally an ELO fan.

  • A BIG LIPPED ALLIGATOR MOMENT!!!!

  • Was 9 years old when this movie came out...... played this song for my wife years later and she loved it... Some things dont change.............

  • My dad introduce me to ELO songs, now, he passed away, but this song reminds me to those beautiful moments we have together...

  • I love this song so much.

  • He should have turned into a Swan.... No one will get that ref.

  • I wish Don Bluth studios had stuck with this style of animation (and Space ace, Dragons Lair, etc) rather than aping Disney for Spielberg.

  • the animation is AMAZING very Disney, LOVE IT! nothing is better than hand drawn animation, this is so much better than that computer animation we have nowadays.! but I don't like the song.

  • @maleficentdiva

The animation was done by Don Bluth productions. This animation being the 1st commissioned piece after leaving Disney.

  • pure art.

  • Don Bluth was here...

  • This was clearly the first draft for Princess Daphne.

  • elo and don bluth's animation most amazing part of this film, made my childhood :)

  • Dazzlingly gorgeous. ELO's music always sounded sparkly to me, so this is fitting. They could've done without the leg warmers on Olivia Newton-Bird, though. It was distracting; they rememinded me of marshmallows on toothpicks.

  • This clip is just oozing with 80s.

  • Strangely enough, Don Bluth's animation was ruling the 80s until Disney got it's second wind with The Little Mermaid. He did the animated sequences in this movie, as well as the video games Space Ace, Dragon's Lair, and the movies Secret of NIMH, An American Tail and Land Before Time. And even though, after The Little Mermaid, Disney overshadowed Bluth, his work into the 90s was also charming. All Dogs Go to Heaven to Titan A.E where all great too.

  • Awesome beautiful song, I miss this movie!

  • my fave cartoon in xanadu!!!! i luv this song!!!! 1979 i was born that era!!!! im lucky...

  • Lembranças ...

  • @silentsquall1987 thankies

  • what movie is this from 'cause i don't know >~<

  • @randomladyisrandom It's from the movie Xanadu :3

  • i love this movie so much and the music. i bought it on itunes (the movie) they just don make them like they use to.

  • You always knew when it was ELO playing on the radio they had a sound like no other band.

  • is the female bird seriously wearing leg warmers?

  • the only good thing in this movie besides the soundtrack and gene kelly.

  • and thus was the only real reason to see Xanadu

  • Parents want the child to suceed as best they can. They are proud.I miss mine too but I try to suceed for them.

  • Nestling of the mood. Excellent.

  • my best mates just left town and this song seems to fit with my blue feelings. Love it

  • this is sooo Don Bluth! Thats why its awesome!!! <3

  • @berrybellcosplay and she looks like Thumbelina in another one of his wonderful animations. That is a compliment ^_^

  • amazing

  • it maybe old but this is true music!

  • I MISS THE 80s SNIF SNIF LOL

  • Top !!!

  • podrá pasar el tiempo, los años....pero la buena música, esa que sale del corazón, nunca morirá....siempre estará ahí para ti.....

  • the perfect love song <3

  • I was able to see Xanadu when it first came out at the drive in theater. Nothing like seeing it on a screen that big!

  • just turned 21 and today is the first time i really listen to this song :P

  • sorry to ask but what is the name of this film?

  • @saracanda Xanadu

  • Directed by the "Land Before Time" (or the "yup, yup, yup!" film) director Don Bluth. Don always had the touch. And Lynne's song, if you listen to the lyrics, is all about not wanting to say goodbye. Maybe some of us have said too many in our life and that's why it feels emotional.

  • It's so cheesy and dreamy but I still like it XD

  • this is the cutest piece of animation ever!

  • Big Lipped Alligator Moment, anyone? ROFL

  • @seanpatrickcain what in the hell are you talking about?

  • some1 dedicated me this video, I LOVE YOU k, I hope u'll read it <3

  • @drequeijo now i did baby, i love you very very much, i want to see you right noww, :*

  • I never cried before listening to this song until I have had my heart broken a few times..I can relate.

  • cracking tune from the eighties

  • So lovely. Make me cry.

  • @nycbunny1 is crying right now

  • Adorable. <3

  • me encaaaanataaaaaaaaaa xis so beautiful

  • Jeff sounds so beautiful!!! *__*

  • Thats me and helen tudor on the cartoon =) ELO is flippin brilliant....I dont understand why they arent famous cuz they are ah fuck it theyre fukin awesome.....GEEZUS this song gives me chills

  • Thank you for sharing is beautiful song i like it.

  • Something tells me Xanadu would probably have been Greatest movie ever made if it was just an animated picture by Don Bluth. Even as a major ELO fan, the movie's only saving grace was the soundtrack and probably this scene.

  • @shogunblade Amen.

  • Meanwhile, Twilight continues to sell millions.

My faith in the species I call my own is dwindling.

  • what is the name of the movie used?

  • @CresentSanctuary This scene is from the movie XANADU. My mom made me watch one day with her while I was ill as a child. And to this day I still love the movie

  • @SAsithlord thank you very much

    :)

  • Jeff Lynne seriously has the best singing voice in pop music EVER.. This song is great to drink and cry oneself to sleep to when one's heart has been broken.

  • @vcat10 I agree. He can sound like the best friend you've ever had or the best **** you've ever had...lol

  • She looks like Tinkerbell

  • ...iillegal !...

...more in the video EXCLUIDODIGITAL !

  • Don Bluth rules and so does this film!

  • Amongst all songs that the Lord God Jeff Lynne wrote / produced, this one is one of his best. Still, there are a lot of other hidden gems on all of ELO's albums. Don't stick to the well-air played ones, go and dig deep in the albums, you won't be disappointed....

  • Reminds me of Dragon Slayer. Love the animation. :)

  • @MasterJediDude - You mean Dragon's Lair, don't you? Don Bluth did the artwork for that, too - as well as Space Ace.

  • ...all you gotta do is stay...so simple, so brilliant

  • The best song from the movie... By Far !!

  • Don Bluth Animation!

  • If this isn't the face of magical brilliance, I don't know what is.

  • Such beautiful animation!!!!

  • For the love of God Hollywood! PLEASE never remake this movie, It will lose all its magic that made it what it was.

With an irreplaceable cast of amazing actors and quit possibly one of the best all around soundtracks of all times.

Leave this gem right were it is untouched!

  • I absolutely love this song and this scene is my favorite in this movie =) it's so adorable

  • uhmm.. is this from the same guy that drew/directer/wtv-the-correct-term-is "Anastasia"?? 'cause the girl looks awfully similar to the main character, Ana/Anastasia..

  • Love the song and animation :D

  • Jeff has redone this song recently. It will be heard very soon.

  • @mattroxx89 What is jeff lynee up to these days ? do you think he will ever tour again on his own or with e.l.o. thanks.

  • @tonymontana1974 new album soon. as for a tour, I'm not sure.

  • a lot of people bag this movie, but it has some of the best songs!

  • best movie ever

  • I had every spoken word and song memorized in this movie. I could let my mind replay it when I got bummed out. Still works to this day. That was 30 years ago.

  • Love this song! It was one of my favorite parts to xanadu! Great movie also

  • @EssiieLynneD < My dad was totally into Olivia Newton John and E.L.O. at the time and he used to listen to the soundtrack on record when the movie just came out! i just totally got into ELO lately because I never heard many of thier songs in the past.. I was missing out!! big time! I never knew how much music ELO had out there..They are still amazing after 40 years!!!

  • @hobbit151 I was about to post a reply to argue that ELO wasn't that old and the I realized: "Damn, that's true. It's been almost 40 years."

So, yeah... Good music is timeless.

  • 0 people missed the like button; they must have good precision.

  • i alwaysed wondered y they changed into animation and i noe the guys an artist but yy

  • Comment removed

  • Great stuff!

  • Mi niña interior felizzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Bea

  • I saw this clip on Cuba, when i was a child.

  • Almost everything in Don Bluth's animation here is lifted almost directly from earlier Disney animation: the humans becoming fish and then sparrows from The Sword in the Stone, the female fish duplicated from the simmering fish in Fantasia, and the girl flying over a river while looking down at her reflection exactly like Wendy in Peter Pan. There's nothing original in this animation at all. Even the humans are rotoscoped (traced from live action).

  • The kind of thing that sets Jeff Lynne apart from other song writers / producers is what he does at 1:20. This type of tempo and key change was...and is...his trademark for making one-of-a-kind classics. And he carries it all the way to the fade!

  • I can definitely see an early model for Thumbelina in the female lead here.

  • *wistful sigh* Ah, Zanado

  • @Chasatani Its spelled Xanadu stupid lul

  • @BlackRosePetals18 lol he is a genius but he's not dead

  • @ekf501 : Yes....he's got at least 20 more years left with us.

  • wow, she has such beautiful movements, Don Bluth always has such a gorgeous style

  • "Are the doing in that flower?" My brother ask my mom.

  • Who are the idiots clamoring for Don to rest in peace? Don't scare me like that, good lord.

  • This reminds me of The Sword In The Stone a lot, which is more reason to love this segment.

  • wonderful...

  • Ah Don Bluth you were a true artist R.I.P

  • @SaraphineDalma Don Bluth is alive and well!

  • I was 10 yrs old when this movie came out; although by today's standards it might be considered 'lame', I loved this movie and especially this part. I was thoroughly thrilled to find it here on youtube, brought back memories! Loved some of the previous comments by the way lol. Greatest part of the movie IMO....

  • too bad the audio is kinda crappy =="

    i LOOOVE this ~!!!!

  • OMG! It's a Don Bluth animation short clip of the movie! Wow! He did this animation short song before he did The Secret of NIMH and other animation films. But now,it turns that Don Bluth goes down his animation in the 90's especially godawful of A Troll in Central Park.

  • Great song and love animation mix nice job.

  • don bluth animates a bird with leg warmers in a music video in the middle of a movie so the tune of "Don't walk away" by the Electric Light Orchestra; I think it's safe to say I'm in the 80s.

  • whats the movie?

  • .......wait a minute. wait just one minute......that fish part....it looks so famliar..........*goes to watch the animated Tom Sawyer from 90s*

  • gotta love all things done bluth animated (mostly)

  • You know what? I love this movie to death (and I'm sixteen, BTW) but HOLY CRAP. The animated fish and bird have more character and emotion than the guy playing Sony! I agree with whoever said they should have just animated the entire thing, guy-who-plays-Sony can't act for crap. And yeah, this and Dancin' are the two best parts of this whole movie.

  • @Anomalypwnsu, I agree.....I just try to look past him and enjoy the rest of the singing and dancing. People should look up Gene Kelly and watch some of his dance scenes from the 40s and 50s. He was an amazing dancer!

  • I was reading reviews of this movie when it was first released and just about every film critic gave it a bad review. One even said this scene was the low point of the movie. Can you believe that?!!!!

  • Totally forgot about this part in the movie until I watched it again. GREAT song.

  • great! i love it! from Spain!

  • if only life was really like this ...if only my life I could find the man of my dreams who could sweep me of my feet instead of wanting to get inside my underwear

  • can someone please upload a better quality version of this scene? the music is way to low, i wanan post if for a friend but i dont want them to have to blast up the speakers :(

  • God this clip I still love it so much

  • sometimes i wondered, "why didn't they just animate Xanadu with Don Bluth as the director?" O well, don't get me wrong, I love this musical and these songs ^^

  • wtf

  • Did Don Bluth animate this animated sequence? If so, I think he might have animated the girl...

    I like this song though...

  • @jbecker8082 well in that case hold your breath a little while longer because dragon's lair: the movie is planned to be released next spring!

  • electric light orchestra and Don Bluth together at last to create the prettiest big lipped alligator moment ever created.

  • Electric Light Orchestra, great memories...

  • It's Princess Daphne!

  • @Guernicaman - The cage is locked, with a key!

Still have my DL laser disc. Ah the memories.

  • ooh que lindo <3 :D

  • DANKESCHÖN !!!!!!!!!

  • i adored this move when i first saw it, and i remember this was always my favorite part. still is, in fact. i believe no one could animate this scene better than don bluth did, he makes more magic in one frame than disney does in a whole movie.

  • Song still gives me goose bumps after all these years.

  • @tumeke543 Bluth actually worked at Disney for a while. His style really shows in those features. He worked on The Rescuers, Robin Hood, Winnie the Pooh, and Pete's Dragon.

  • @tumeke543 Oh. Hell. Yes.

    Don Bluth makes masterpieces.

  • @tumeke543 I don't like the Broadway treatment. It downplays the beautiful music of ELO. The music made the movie.

  • @tumeke543 I agree

  • @tumeke543 i couldnt agree with you more i love this movie i could watch it over and over again and never get tired of it

  • A great band from a great decade

  • @tumeke543 Bluth animated for Disney dude. Sure, he left and did his own thing, but he still contributed to old Disney features.

  • @DyeingPanda that is true, but that's when disney was friggin' awesome. now that pixar's joined in... ehh... it's okay. it's not like it's bad.

  • @DyeingPanda > I knew this was Don Bluth animation,,,what a trip man.!!

  • @tumeke543 You do realize that Bluth used to work for disney right? So if it wasn't for disney I don't know if bluth would have had the drive to make is own studio.

  • esta canción me encanta, a mi me llega al bobo!!!!! lo máximo!!!!!!slds de Lima Perú

  • I still remember falling in love with ELO from the movie Xanadu when it first came out... and now 30+ years later I still love them deeply. Great song, cheesy video concept, but hey, this was pre-MTV and high quality cartoon graphics for the time. Sometimes old school really is best.

  • she is wearing the Nancy Sinatra boots¡¡¡¡

  • this video emanates true sweet goodness and the warm fuzzies...it is my reverie of bittersweet memories...it breaks your heart, huh?

  • yup-right there with ya cheeky gal! :)

get me out of here when katie price left.

  • Don Bluth and ELO are so full of win.

  • i nkow its kinda epic but when im sad i listen to this song. AND DONT BE PUTING COMENTS ABOUT ME!

  • Well, that makes two of us

I was like 7 years old when I saw it, and I felt lonely, I wanted to act as if I have a GF and do the same as they did in this part, to be a fish, a bird, anything to be a lover

  • well, I am a hopeless romantic and I always thought this was a bittersweet cartoon in this movie...I always want a happy ending, too, but life doesn't always give us that...

  • Watch this on shrooms!!

    O_O

  • Best part of this film.

  • THANK YOU!!! I've been looking for this for YEARS! & Just by chance I found it on cable tonight! I always LOVED this segment! Nothing gets me more than animated segment in a live action movie! & The song is beautiful too! I have so MANY fond memories of ELO, mainly involving my big sister driving me around in her 1st car... ah, memories!

  • i love this stuff

  • I love Xanadu!

    Always have and always will!!!!!

  • bloody good song makes me cry
