Helis "throw" air rotating their blades which have variable pitch (tilt). Combining the pitch and the rotational speed of the blades more air is moved by the heli. 3D helis (the ones that perform stunts like these) can change their pitch from positive (throwin air down) to negative, resulting in air being moved up. This is used to keep the helicopter hovering (floating) when it is upside down.

Wow! I'm having trouble believing anyone's reaction time would be fast enough to keep control of the copter, not to mention the copter flying on it's side, where's the lift coming from? How about it being controlled with software and maybe a ground sensor to keep it from any ground contact If it is CGI it's damn good CGI. It would be nice to know.

@donwimer Haha, this is not CGI at all! It's called variable pitch - the helicopter can change the pitch of its blades in mid-flight without having to reversse the direction (basically from / to \). The pilots of these things have flown for many years and are at the top of their class. I do 3D flying (which is this), and let me tell you, it's hard!
