Otis Ray Redding, Jr. in Dawson, GA Sept. 1941 He wrote and recorded "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay", which went on to become a number-one record on both the pop and R&B charts after his death in a plane crash on Dec. 7 1967. I remember that day that I heard about the plane crash. I couldn't believe it. I was in college @ EMU-Ypsilanti, and our whole dorm seemed to be crying. His was a voice to love forever.
