Blondie's "Rapture" was released January 1981 and was the first video exposure for Fab Five Freddy and what was considered the birth of rap around the early 80s in New York City.
This fits my definition of art -- visual, aural art. It is complex yet simple. It makes statements about how we pigeonhole people and races. Then it takes us on a wild ride to Wonderland. It's just plain fun.
Damn...when i was looking for a "Rapture" remix, I didn't expect THIS...The Doors and Blondie...if Jim Morrison had made it a bit longer, his music may have sounded just like this...AMAZING!!!
i think debbie was the first white vocalist to do rap. this was early 80's and no one really had heard this type music. it may indeed be blondie's only rap tune. some say madonna did a little rap but it was much later. if someone knows a white band that did rap this early, let me know.
Actually it began in the early 70's the first group to make it noticed was the Sugar Hill Gang with "Rapper's Delight".But I agree Blondie's Rapture was recognized as one of the first,be it by a black or white group, just not THE first.
I'm not a fan of mash-ups, but this has been so well done. Bravo!
Riders & Rap-ture. Deb Harry's 'Rapture' was my first real experience with a rap theme running through a song. How things have moved along since then!
I do wonder if simply by cueing up at the vocals, simultaneously, if the timing stays together. The chords work well, and the lyrics.
Are they naturally in time? I say just play them both full on, maybe slow or speed one to stay in time...it is not too much to digest musically..a sort of musical 8-ball so to speak....
Even hip-hop, which everyone from Vibe to Time magazine acknowledges as the music of the '90s, has a few blond roots, for while Grandmaster Flash and Kool Herc invented it, Blondie brought it to the masses -- "Rapture" was, after all, the first No. 1 rap song ever.
Dude "Rapture" came out in 1980! There are white people out there who to this day claim the first rap they ever heard was by Debbie Harry. Believe it or not, it's actually considered a pioneering song in the gendre.
I'm sure Rapture was the first rap song many black people heard too! Not all black people were geographically or socially connected to the early rap/hip hop scenes.
Rapture was not the first fucking rap song, you can tell the way it was performed that it was influenced by underground movement that was known as rap, in fact I think the Jackson 5 used a rap line in one of their songs before blondie ever did
Calm down, I didn't say Rapture was the first rap song. I said that it might have been the first one many black people heard like most white america when rapture was released because rap in its infancy in the 70's and early 80's was not access to everyone.

This is an amazing marriage of two incredible songs.
Jim Morrison's part in it is incredibly haunting and beautiful when intertwined with Blondie's piece. I love it!

Fab Five Freddie told me everybody's high
DJ's spinnin' are savin' my mind
Flash is fast, Flash is cool
Francois sez fas, Flashe' no do
And you don't stop, sure shot
Go out to the parking lot
And you get in your car and you drive real far
And you drive all night and then you see a light
And it comes right down and lands on the ground
And out comes a man from Mars

Whoever was the brainchild for the idea of the remixing of these two songs together was a GENIUS in my opinion.
I was nearly hesitant about coming to listen to this when I saw it listed, for fear that it wouldn't sound right.
I'm glad I "did" check it out.

Not bad, but it had no images or video of The Doors or Jim Morrison, when this song is a mix up of the two.
