  • wouldn't take more than a magnet to hold that thing on there so you don't have to push it and hold it all the time... having two hands would probably speed up your operation quite a bit and that wouldn't take away from the easy on, easy off factor

  • @bebuggin69 im not sure if i made a comment about magnets, or not, I use a hard drive magnet which is very powerful, works great and still allow the blade to move if need be, only problem i had was the magnet having magnetic material build on it but you hit the nail on the head, because that is what i ended up using! used a nice strong hard drive magnet and sometimes first few times i had to use screw driver to pry it off, after it got dirty somewhat it was easier, but still holds it :)

  • @bebuggin69 the guy can cut and weld. no need to be all "exotic". cut a hole, insert pin, done.

  • Thanks! If you look Carefully, The Blades on the Side are flat on the backside, and have a Wedge on the front, slight though, doesnt need much, so when i do split, the back doesnt get pinned as much as if one with a wedge on both sides, So far it works good without a prblem, but yeah i understand what you mean, but again the side blades have about a half inch wedge towards the front or opposite side of the beam, to push wood away from it, beam side is perfectly flat so its not pushing

  • I think that maybe the side wings need more "Wedge" to 'em. Like some spreaders welded onto the back. It looks as if you'd have to keep the spreaders on the side that is opposite the beam though -- otherwise your split wood might get pinned against the beam. I have a splitter with a 5" cylinder and it will split just about anything but of course you sacrifice speed with a big cylinder. I need an add-on 4-way wedge myself. Better get on that! Great vid!

  • thanks for the reply up here in Northern NY we had some trees topple from a storm last year and I cut up some stumps and can't afford one of them splitters like you have plus not alot of wood left and I enjoy doing it by hand... couldnt see buying a splitting axe so bought the $9 cone it works fine but I have to split with axe and then put that wedge in and few wacks of the sledge and Bam firewood!

    Thanks though

  • @adkbeau If you have a couple of close friends, maybe you can buy a hydraulic together. Working hard one weekend, you can split enough wood for the year, so "who gets to use it" really shouldn't be an issue (maintenance/fixing broken stuff) needs to be agreed upon. Or get together every couple of weekends and hang out together....makes an excuse to get out.

  • nice but was looking for the video on how to use the #4 cone wedge from lowes thats $9

  • @adkbeau OH hey sorry about that,. id curious about how well those work too, let me know, i always heard they can get stuck in a piece of wood sometimes, but works great on hardwoods, but hear horror stories about those on gum.

  • heh, you need a bungie cord or something to keep your 4-way in place :)

  • @jacktheripped yeah, originally it was supposed to be used with the splitter when its laid down, but like i mentioned before, it was just something made to make things go a little bit faster, not that im a engineer or anything, if anything it would need a spring inside where it slips on pulling it inwards, Thanks for stopping by!

  • Nice. I like it. I made something similar but have not tried it out yet.

  • @JBthebirdhunter as long as you use a good hardened steel that wont bend you should have no problem saved me a lot of time, but we have a wood processor now. Px-2

  • .... very nice.

  • @canoelicker Thanks, I appreciate the comment, !

  • Nice idea, cuts down on your time quite a bit i bet.

  • @mdlrr1 there are some companys that mae them, i wanted to make mine to where i know it would fit my machins, otherwise id have to just stick to the original two way all the time. i want to say it cuts it down by half or so,. takes about 45seconds to split a average log, with just the two way on it, i put the 4 way and that average log is cut in 4 pieces in 15 seconds, the time it takes to make one pass with the ram,

  • Nice design, just needs a pin or? to hold it on. I wish we had an implement scrapyard here. keep tinkering,if nothing else!

  • @acme0007 Hey thanks, Well when i made it, the center plate used to hold it on there kinda tight, in the vid the splitter was not how i l usually have it, it was kinda laid back towards me compared to how i have it normally, i have two flush mount bolts i have not used on it,i need to drill and countersink and tap threads to hold it on, but i never had it fal off when i have it on level ground or in a horizontal position i never needed it pinned , but i do plan on bolting it up very soon.

  • Got some pretty good welds there!

    Nice idea though.

    Looks and works great!

  • @CSAKvids Appreciate the comment, its not the best but it cost me nothing to make, and well the tonnage on the splitter was being wasted with just a single wedge, 4 way cut my time from about 45 seconds to cut up a log into 4 pieces, to 15 seconds, i thinking about tryin to make a 6 way wedge.

  • looking good

  • @500passwords Hey thanks man, im waiting for #20 to come out !
