Thanks for the kind comments. The SD45s have Phoeonix 2k2 sound, as does the Accucraft K-4. The FAs, F3s, and Pacific all have Soundtraxx Sierra boards.
Like your videos. I have new Santa Fe F-1 units and have a New SD-45 in Rio Grande road name. Planning to buy another Rio Grande SD-45 and Snow plow like yours. Your SD-45s look and sound fantastic in your video, is that Phoenix sound ?? .
The blade on the front of the front of the FA is metal. It was made specifically for the Aristo FA. Mine was a gift from an older club member. I have not seen one like it available for sale.
The motors in the loco are up to the job. What you are seeing as week, is slippage due to the wheels on the loco being warm, and the rails being frozen. The warm wheels melt the snow and make ice - therefore slippage. Usually if I am going to plowing, I leave the loco in the unheated shed for hours first. This time I didn't get the chance.
Garden Railroading is a great hobby. You get outside, move around, and get to play with some neat toys. My layout details are a pariody of people, places and events of my extended family and friends.
You have to love traind in snow. We have had so much ice before our snow this year have not been able to run mine. Also the weather turn so cold so fast that I was unable to concrete my canyon walls, now I have mud covering some of the track. Very nice layout.
looks fun - great layout! currently got a HO and O scale in the train room (used to be called the basement, LOL), would a G work with the Norf 'Kota weather?
The Wichita Garden Rail Club will be running trains at the Botanica Luminations beginning the weekend after Thanksgiving and next three weekends. Please stop by and visit with us.
Just wondering.....wouldn't it work better if you used a plow rail car instead of the locomotive? It would seem that you might be able to go further with a vee-plow car in front than just the loco....
That's cool! Don't get me wrong! Pushing snow around with a 'G' locomotive IS impressive....it's the neatest thing I've seen! I just noticed that you had to back it up several times to make some headway.... that's why I asked about the vee-plow....I understand there's even models of rotary plows available too....have you heard anything about that?
Hmm... nice idea but I doubt a snowplough would work on My English OO gauge garden layout. I think the neighbours might have a good old moan if the horn was sounding like that all afternoon too.. still it's better than the sound of a flymo I suppose!!

Those FA/FB units in the video, is that an actual snow plow kit on the lead unit? I've been looking for one for my FA-1 for a couple years now.

Yes, G would work in ND. There are many G layouts in Canada as well.
I have other vids of snowplowing too.

You may find this to be an odd question but do you live in Indiana? From what I've seen of your outdoor track it looks like one I know of in Indiana.

Awesome railroad! How long did it take to put together? (And how did you get the wife to agree?)

The railroad has evolved over 5 years. The wife?... This started life as a project for the grandkids... and has evolved.
