While mildly toxic to humans, DDT is toxic to a wide range of animals. It is linked to cancer and diabetes. And though McElhinney presents herself as "fair and balanced" she fails to mention these facts. Also, DDT's usefulness would have been short lived, as mosquitos quickly developed a resistance to it.

Ann, if you're going to tell the story, at least try to tell the WHOLE story rather than one side. Sure, that's easier said than done, but it makes me wonder who funded her movies.

I was one of those people who grew up learning that DDT was poisonous/dangerous. (I'm 42.) It wasn't until a couple of years ago that I learned this was not so! I don't let myself read too much about it because it makes me *furious*! Why did these people lie all my life? Why would they want to withhold something that could save countless lives? Food prices sky rocketed at least in part because of the bio fuels industry. Look it up for yourself, there are plenty of articles and research on the Net about this. Food prices going up along with the expansion of the bio fuels industry was a logical conclusion before, now with the bio fuels industry growing it is a reality. More crops converted / dedicated to bio fuels = less crops for food and therefore the cost of related food products increases.

Probably not a good idea, but I am still alive more than half a century later, in relatively good health, and no worse the wear for DDT. In fact, better, since I never had to worry about mosquito-borne malaria (believe it or not, prior to WWII, malaria was a real problem in the US.
