  • Thankx for the images of your Ross procedure........ Just had cardiac outpatients and just a moderate stenosis at present...... Would you recommend the Ross as opposed to the other two options????? (as a patient as well as anything else)My son is 16....... Please let me know!

(im confused as the ross will need more surgery doublesided heart problem longterm but a valve replacement apparently lasts longer and then only onesided heart problem......) i dont know...help!!!! Al x

  • @Durrantina Hi. I'm sorry I can't recommend one procedure over the other. That's a decision you have to make in conjunction with your cardiologist and surgeon. I would suggest you join the discussion forums at ValveReplacement(DOT)com. There are lots of people there who have been down the same road you're traveling. They were a great help and an inspiration to me! best -

  • @StretchPhotography how you are getting along afer the ross, my son may have to have one

  • @FP51DPO

The last several years have been great. December 11 will be my 6th year anniversary.

The summer before the surgery I couldn't walk 4 blocks to the coffee shop near our house without stopping to rest. One day shy of four months after the surgery I ran a 10k. But, "Your mileage may vary..." ;)

I definitely would do the RP again, would have Dr. Stelzer do it, and can't think of anything I'd change really. My annual echoes continue to look good.

Email me if you'd like to chat more

  • If you have a mechanical heart valve and the noise keeps you awake at night - but you DON'T want to use drugs or narcotics to sleep - you can purchase a non-addictive inexpensive, psychoacoustic audio recording titled "Heartbeat River" at cdbaby.com

  • Dear Mr. Stretch,

I just watched your video, I too must have an aortic valve replacement and a section of my aorta replaced. I am suspected to have marfan syndrome which would have caused my heart problems and was wondering about your experiances. I'm terrified and wondered if you could possibly email me. You look to be tall and thin and was wondering if you too might also have marfan or some other connective tissue disorder which has caused your heart problems.

  • i am interested to your story. i wanna be a cardiologist. so your bicuspid valve just suddenly malfunctioned?

  • @TheCowboyGarage In his photo-diary of the event (available on his website), his pediatrician detected a hear murmur when he was 5 months old. His parents then took him to Duke Medical Center, where doctors diagnosed him with a a biscuspid aortic valve. The aortic valve should normally have three leaves. Just put "bicuspid aortic valve" into Google.

  • hello thanks for posting this video . i have just learned that i am going to have to get a mechanical heat valve put in my aotra and this kinda gives me an idea of what i'm going to have to deal with i couldnt tell exactly what they did to yours in the video. but the reason i'm haveing mine is 2 of the leaflets in my valve are fused together. if you have any info id would really like to have it and to know how things are going for you. thanks and good luck
