@littlescratchykitty I think it's just a piece of incidental music; it doesn't have a title and is not a part of the soundtrack album or any other release by Badalamenti. This music always made me wanna take a stroll down a deserted street while being followed by unsavoury looking types ;)

It's not by Angelo Badalamenti. It's borrowed from Richard Strauss. It's the introduction to one of his 'Four Last Songs', which is, as stated correctly above, 'Im Abendrot'.

I saw this one when it first came out. I was totally crazy about David Lynch. He was offered Return of the Jedi. Could you image what that would have been like had he accepted?

Well, look at Dune. He was a director-for-hire on that one and unlike The Elephant Man he didn't have final cut, which made him miserable. Had he been allowed to do whatever he wanted on Return of the Jedi, it would've been amazing, but I doubt that would've happened.
