Its a load of bullshit junk science that doomsdayers have been using as of late to fit in to their 'end of the world in 2012 scenerio'. According to actual scientists, a magnetic shift is possible (and seems to be in the beginning stages at the moment). It would NOT completely remove the magnetic field, that is doomsday bullshit. It would also takes THOUSANDS of years to complete, meaning it would be a very slow process. You will be fine.

The movie 2012, and 2012 doomsdayers have misrepresented the facts as follows - they make it seem as though a magnetic field shift happens in a day, and completely removes the magnetic field. You are quite correct. The current decay of the strength in the poles seems to suggest the very slow beginning of possible movement. Yet that might not be the case at all. Even if decrease continued at the same rate as it has been, it would take 1000-2000 years for it to be gone completely.

'There was a big shift about 800 million years ago, when the poles moved about 0.27 m (11 inches) per year, more or less in a straight line for 20 million years.' That is just to show how long it takes for the poles to move. Sorry for all the replies, hopefully I helped some people who are afraid though.

First off, the Mayan Calender does not predict something happening on December 21st, 2012, that is just the date that the Mayan Calender stops, doesn't mean anything, but I've seen very knowledgeable proof on the History Channel, so I believe it will end. If the world doesn't end though, well...it will be a good year :P

well, First lol, there is no such thing as planet x which is spopsed to collide with earth in december the 21st 2012 , because even if it did exist it would be clear to the naked eye from earth, but no, there is no chance that if it did exist it would make it 1000 light years in 2 years to earth. and mayhens didnt have great tecnology like telescopes so they cannot predict from further space, but there are other warnings which HAVE TO HAPPEN in surtant periods , dont worry , no sighs so far

At midnight a section of the world will instantly end and instantly be reborn and everything and everybody (with the exact same memories, etc) will be replaced with exact replicas, that's how the world's going to end. This theory is BULLSHIT! Granted Yellowstone is overdue, but then again it could erupt any second, literally. And the polar shifts, again there is no real evidence to say it will happen on that day in particular. And even if it does, then it may not cause us all to burn to a crisp. No one actually knows the effects of the pole shift.
