anyone who appreciates nirvana or the life and talent of kurt cobain should def watch About a son. im not a huge nirvana fan but the way the documentary is shot with mostly still images of the places that kurt mentions during the interview, makes for a unique and haunting experience. the soundtrack is pretty much all the music that he says inspired him. its a great biopic.

I remember I got into Nirvana when I was 7 (when Kurt died). I have been a huge fan ever since. There is no question that Nirvana is a major influence on my musical style.
I may be a depressed mess, but listening to Nirvana Albums brighten my day up even if they remind me of the reason I am depressed.
@RadioFriendlyNoise DUD I heard him in 1994 Come as you are on the radio I was 7 years old too man....... From now on I'd remember the sound for the rest of my life but didn'd knew the name of the song till 2006 and didn't knew Nirvana till 2002 when my cousins talk about it and the suicide when I was in vacations.
@RadioFriendlyNoise "Nirvana" that name sounds like something epic........then years later I understand it was an spiritual state and also in 1994 knew that DOOM 2 has the nirvana map so it was weird!!!!!!
I'm guessing you born in 87 and now you are 22 years old like me!!!!
I was born in 94, didn get to experience anything, music these days suck ass, my favourite band is the rolling stones and musically I couldn't have chosen a worse decade to get born in.. GOD!! I mean.. cmon!
@arrelite well if you say the 90's (with Smashing Pumpkins Garbage Soundgarden Radiohead K's Choice Alice in Chains and all the others) was shit you missed out a lot man.Only after 2000 rock music got really fucked in the ass
The internet wasn't really common-place till '94. So as a fan of nirvana starting in '91... info about them was pretty hard to come by. MTV or an article here and there in some teen or music magazine was about as good as it got. Sometimes the pictures and linear notes inside sleeve of a CD was our only "connection" to a band. The way they used blurred images only amped up the curiosity. Don't think I knew what kurt's face looked like till '93.
Well, I was a teenage back then and I knew what he looked like right off because there were pictures of him in every magazine when Nirvana and "grunge" broke.
There has been some rewriting of history over the last 15 years. For example, Dave has gained a lot of attention due to his successful career with Foo Fighters. And even though he did contribute with his backup vocals and great drumming, Krist and Kurt were really the flag-ships of the band back then. I'd compare them to like Axl and Slash... that level of dual presence for the band. Dave was largely the silent member at that time.
I've had an itch to tell current generations what it was like back then as it was happening. For example, there were still plenty of remnants from the 80s still around till '93 or even '95. Plenty of 80s styled clothing. It wasn't like in '91 everything changed over night. There was still plenty of 80s macho attitudes left over. The seniors bred on 80s didn't quite "get us". They thought we were wimps.
I love what producer said at the end. I was 14 when nevermind came out and we all fell in love with Nevermind for it's energy, mystery, "water vibe", humor... all positive and dreamy stuff... not drug addition, suicide, or depression.
ABOUT A SON was based on the same interviews that Michael Azzerad conducted with Kurt for COME AS YOU ARE. It's almost like hearing the book verbally to watch that film.
God, this man was amazing. He still holds a powerful influence over the music industry and the people of today fifteen years after his death. You can't find many people who can do that nowadays. Kurt Cobain was a rare and amazing person and the world misses him greatly. I need to buy this movie, I want to understand him more. R.I.P. Kurt.
I suggest watching the documentary titled kurt and courtney.I just finished watching it and I am still trying to figure out what it was. Don't watch it if you are not a big fan because you will probably find it boring. It has interviews with the nanny, and courtney's dad, etc. Just Watch it and form your opinion. Don't expect alot of Kurt footage, but watch it anyway.
Id prefered to have used kurts film fottage instead of all that they used, but anyway, this audio is great SOurce and i want those ful 24 hours, anyone has it ?
BUT even if it was comfirmed as a sucide here are the facts 1 he was on three doses of heroine that is phisicly to much fot you oto be able to pick up a gun 2 he could nopt have shot himself with his feet because he was wearing shoes 3courtney love tried to pay someone to kill kurt but he didnt and admitted courtneys bribe to the press 4 there were no fingerprints on the gun so from him pulling the triger it would have caused him to grip the gun tighter or let it go
First off, he had the gun in the hand of the arm he shot heroin into, I know because I have about 4 Cobain biographies and they all say the same. He reached down with his thumb, so the shoe thing means nothing. I would LOVE to see where you got the "facts" of the Courtney-murder conspiracy junk theory (which there are too many to count by the way). The eye-witness report (on Court-TV) found finger-prints matching his DNA. He killed himself, it'll be a lot easier on you when you accept it.
i met kurt new york in 93, saw them at roseland, and they were awesome. he was really nice and i got a pic and an autograph. never forget that. best band ever
Its good to remember him in the way that he was funny, creative and happy.Like the times they went on tour, getting pissed, goofing around and having a laugh. He had a good sense of humour but i dont like the way the media has portrayed him as this deppressed junkie etc,its bullshit! And there is still good music out there...Kings of Leon to name one, fucking normal hillbilly guys on guitar playing kick ass songs....
the clip they show at school the boy who is supposely him i guess? doesnt seem like what id imagine kurt to look like during his high school years...i havent seen this movie yet, but it looks good but ive heard good and bad reviews
It ISN'T BULLSHIT! Jesus Christ, just because a good musician dies doesn't mean the shows over! There have been tons of talented artists since then. You guys would love to be Jethro Tull fans cause you all seem to love to "live in the past". Get a grip. Its your opinion but still, people like you need to grow a pair and find some newr music you like. Honor what Nirvana was , don't shun it.
music now sucks its just printed out of a computer before it used to be like a poetry and it shouldnt be about liking wats in style just doin ur own thing
Do you even know what you are talking about? My point was simply that there are good bands around still and there are some good new ones. I know that years down the road I don't want to look back at this era of my life and say that I didn't have any music from my generation that I liked. It would be embarrassing at that. Do what you want but all I am saying is that living too much in the past to me makes me feel dead inside. I have found new artist and new-ish artists that I like.
actually that's only mainstream "HEY PUT ME ON A MAGAZINE" music. Bossk, jesu, sunn0))), mastodon, boris and others are the best bands around these days (apart from the older ones)
Yeah what I want is real music television back. Its liek peopel have stopped diggin really getting into music. Its too much superficial shit now bling bling and sweet 16 f*ckin crazy man
Every time I turn on MTV U (The only REAL MTV left)I see a majority of artists that I don't recognize along side some really good ones ie: Murs, Jane's Addiction. Otherwise they all sound like the same band singing about nothing. It just seems to me that the bands that MTV endorses anymore are using music as a fashion statement and nothing more to set the "hip" vibe. But "integrity" and cool of the rock star image was never returned to it's former glory.
@erdeti ummmmmmmmm it's called alt rock and indie music. When Kurt had started up glam metal, had taken over the pop charts, and that was considered shit, by some, and still is, however there are people who still listen to it.
I got this dvd a couple of days ago and I think its awesome.I was mesmerised the whole way through, you really feel like your watching this through Kurt's eyes.Kurt comes across so well and I SO see life through Kurt's prospective, feel forever sad he is gone but his music and spirit will forever live on.
RIP Kurt and may love and peace always be with you!
its true.. there is so many people walking nd talking. speculation is coming from our expierences not his, theres no such person as him anymore.. except people who are alive today who want to relate. it looks good
