The catastrophe has been going on for awhile. The United States has had over a century of military expansion. Now America has hundreds of bases and hundreds of thousands of troops spread all over the globe. The cost of maintaining this kind of system is a tremendous drain. Great empires have been built but the cost of maintaining them always prove to be their undoing.
