  • Wonderfully shot. Whoever the director of this video was, knew how to make a commercial look awesome.

  • The beginning reminds me just a bit of:

"Close your eyes and I'll kiss you, Tomorrow I'll miss you...."

( All my loving", Beatles, 1963)

  • this music and that voice could make hemorrhoid commercial look appealing.

  • Thumbs up if you went here because of the music.

  • Vangelis also composed the "Chariots of Fire" theme.

Was the narrator of the ad Dick Tufeld, who voiced the robot in "Lost in Space"?

  • @decline2state No, I think it was Hal Riney with his GREAT voice which, together with the LOVELY music and stunning footage, made this commercial the BEST wine commercial ever made!!!!! Hal is featured on YouTube and there are two other 1986 Gallo wine commercials with this sweet music. One is an award-winner with a wedding theme and the other is a shorter one with a Christmas theme. Both can be seen on YouTube. Just click on them in the right-hand column on the same page as this ad. Cheers!

  • This commerical is the reason why I love wine today... and also why I miss the 80's so much...

  • The song used in this sounds to me to be a cross between "Canon in D" and "Silent Night."

  • Gorgeous!

  • I remember getting this cassette tape of Vangelis because of this commercial back in like 1987 in Rhode Island. Still have the tape too.

  • i was just listening to a random mix of music & hymn played (the dry synthesized version) & it made me remember this much more moving & romantic arrangement. i knew i'd find it on youtube. many thanks for uploading!

  • @WikeddTung

This particular version is also performed on synthesizers. Vangelis re-did it specifically for this commercial. Never released on CD or record though, sadly...

  • Thanks for posting this. In the past, I contacted Ernest and Julio Gallo marketing department trying to get copies of these commercials, but I wasn't successful. You don't happen to have the wedding one do you? Bt the way, the marketing department told me that Vangelis made a special arrangement of Hymne just for these commercials. Thanks again!!!

  • One of my favorite commercials of all time! Love the Vangelis. Kudo's to those that picked up on the arrangement and speed being different :)

  • This has to be one of the very BEST wine commercials ever made!!!! I used to love watching it when it was on tv. Vangelis did record a version of this song but it is so different in sound and slower, too, and a BIG disappointment compared to whoever recorded this version on this commercial. I think there were one or two other Gallo commercials with this song but I cannot remember for sure. Thanks so much for the posting and the memories!!!

  • @unclebone100 I sooo agree. The commercial version of this song is magnificent.

  • The song being played is "Hymne" by Vangelis... BUT it's NOT Vangelis's arrangement. Vangelis's is MUCH slower and is heavy on the synthesizers. Still a beautiful song, but I wish I could find the actual arrangement/version of the song used in these commercials!!!

  • Dave here. Hannah, I found these ads quite touching. Actually, I only remember seeing one. It featured a newlywed couple running down the church steps, followed by a sun-drenched, outdoor reception meal at a long table. The combination of Mr. Hal Riney's voiceover and Vangelis' "Hymne," have a very heart-warming effect. Mr. Riney owned the ad agency that produced these and many other, award-winning commercials. (PBS - "Independent Lens.")

  • Love it. I have been looking for this for a very long time. I know there is a Christmas version, and I recall at least one other version as well.
