  • Love those Nesmith-penned Monkees songs. Thanks for posting!

  • This was the first Monkees episode I ever saw! Back in "87 To this day I'm totally a Neznut!!! and Monkeenut, love it!

  • Davy has a huge mouth....lol

  • dude!!! why the hell would you be looking?? that's just perverted.

  • The Monkees will live FOREVER!!!

  • at least the boy bands back then had some musical knowledge and talent...for a long time now they just lip sync songs

  • Jeezy creezy, this brings me back to my freshman year of college...my first roommate was obsessed with the Monkees and played them constantly - usually when I was trying to study. (And this was in 1997, not 1967!)

  • everyone knows mike and peter were the main musicians in the group..sad they could not play what they wanted and when they wanted,,brings back good memories tho',,

  • I bought a CD awhile back with about 30 songs on it by the Monkees. I don't remember this song when I was young but I just love it now. I was always crazy about Davey and Peter but now I think that Mike was very good looking and a very good singer.

  • My sister loves Mike Nesmith... I'm telling Peter Noone... She's a two timer....

  • davy at the begining is like " whoa tamborine then maraca..ithink " lol

  • Back in those days (aprrox. 1966/1967) it was very common to see bands using electric 12-string guitars. It started in '64with the Beatles and their early Ric 360-12 and in '65 with the Byrds (Jim, later Roger, McGuinn) and the Ric 360-12 (w/ the modified body shape) and 370-12. After this many rock groups (or pop groups as they were known in those days) had to have a 12 string electric to be really hip, especially if they were a folk-rock band. Many other companies began to make electric 12s

  • has anyone noticed that te guy n teleft is playing a 12 string guitar? thats hella badass

  • That 12 string Gretsch was custom built for Mike. Gretsch was a sponsor of the Monkees. They made a signature six string that's worth a small fortune these days (didn't move worth beans in the sixties). Unfortunately, you're not hearing Mike playing it in this video. At that point in the Monkees history, they weren't allowed to play their own instruments for the show.

  • I wonder how that Gretsch 12 string sounded. Lots of interesting stuff on youtube for those of us in the dark about what happened post 60s to many of the big bands. Really interesting sound McGuinn gets on his 12 string on a 9/23/70 Fillmore performance of "Jesus Is Just Alright" check this one out on youtube too!

  • they were pretty badass.. loved these guys

  • Do any of you Hardcore Monkees fans know why there wasnt a single released off of the Headquarters LP? Thanks.. Phil

  • to Hope2009pc yes there was a single released from Headquarters, it was Alternate Title(Randy Scouse Git) got to no.2 I think in uk.

  • Singles are all controlled by record company execs.. no doubt an interesting story behind it. There are some outstanding Monkees sites that will go into deep detail.. just look for anything with Monkees Inglot as a search term that'll take you to the fanatic sites!

  • Thanks...

  • beautiful song, the lyrics are just wonderful, they light me up a little

not even to mention how adorable mike looks here, sigh

and davy and peter totally freak ou on their instruments, don't they? lol

  • Loved it, of course!!!!!

  • Hey thanks for posting this, one of my favorite Monkees cuts.

  • I remember watching them as a child and loving their show

  • I love them... And this is one of my favorite songs (though Headquarters version is better... obviously... they played their own instruments to! lol)

Though currently I'm a Micky Fan... Mike is SOOO close he hardly counts as second... more like... first and a half or something lol.

But then again at least have my monkee fan yeats (which was all my life) I was a Nez head.. he's so AMAZING And the hair and accent and musicion and song writing and lol

  • mike looks hot... indeed.

  • Say what you want The Monkees cranked out some great Pop tunes. Love em!

  • Nice one - written by Mike. They had a variety of top songwriters - interesting to see Mike write something as good as some of the other writers.

  • 'All men must have someone, Have someone, Who would never take advantage of a love bright as the sun, Someone to understand them and you just may be the one, All men must have someone, Have someone, Who would never take for granted all the pleasures and the fun, Someone to stand beside them and you just may be the one, I saw when you walked by the love right in your eyes I knew I must try to win you....

  • So THAT'S what he's saying!

It's been a running joke with my brother and I for over 40 years that neither of us knew the first line to this song. Wait'll I tell him! (or will I?)

    Thank you!

  • I thought it said something like 'Help Someone' at first.

  • more than ever then I started in the end and here I go again,

All men must have someone, have someone, who would never take advantage of a love bright as the sun,

Someone to understand them and you just may be the one, someone to stand beside them and you just may be the one....

  • greatest band ever!! and im a RAP fan

  • I love Davy Jones

  • I think Mike looks hot.

  • I completely agree! He's my favourite Monkee ^_^

  • It was great being a child and growing up in the '60s. I still have my Monkees albums and I listen to them every now and then.

  • I Never really liked Mike that much, but after hearing this one, I love his voice! and he looks really cute in this, especially at 1:40 !!

  • fuck off idiot!!

  • i became a monkees fan in 1986 when i was 9 years old as a kid watching the old episodes. this was one of my favorite monkees songs. Mike deserved to sing more. dude had a great voice. sweet young thing is my favorite monkee song of his.

  • i agree. alot of my favorite monkees tunes are sung by mike

  • how funny, I too was 9 years old in '86 and watched every episode over and over. I loved the monkees. Wish they still played the shows.

  • Hey, I'm glad to know I'm not the only Sweet Young Thing fan!

  • Rhona. Listen to the words - perfect. EXCEPT - you are most cerainly the one! I love you Rhona - Paul xrxp

  • I saw Micky Dolenz and Davy Jones live in

concert back in 2002. Barry Williams (Greg Brady) opened up for them.

  • young fans here! tiff was just a babe singing in a pagaent in west palm florida late 90s early 2000 when these guys did a comeback tour but without mike!

Weve all been a fan from seeing all those old nick at nite or tvland and nickelodeon Reruns!! thank god for reruns or youd miss the awesome monkee-ness!

they already have 3rd and 4th genreation fans!!IN this generation!Monkees forever!

  • Peter is SO over-acty here! Give him a glass of wine or something

  • Hate to break it to you guys but the song they have on Headquaters is not the reworked song you thinkk it is. They (the record label) had Mikes tonsils removed cause they believed his voice was nasaly. It happed right after Aquariuse Piecies Capacorn and Jones album.

  • OMG really!

I thought his voice was amazing anyway

  • mmm I love Peter's dancing ;) <#

  • Mike was the coolest Monkee

  • Nooo Peter.

  • Mike rocks. Peter needs to give Davey some space. Mickey looks unhappy. I wonder how many times Davey accidentally smacked his balls with his tambourine.

  • YES HE IS!!!

  • Mike has such a beautiful voice :) I love his songs!

  • Thanks for posting. This original version of this song is much better than the re-worked version they put out on "Headquarters".

  • This is good but I prefer the reworked version. The boys don't even play on this version. On the LP it's just the four of them including Peter on Bass for just about the only time on the album ... and it sounds great.

Double tracked bass, very full sounding production and better background vocals.

Like I said, this is ok but the definitive version is on Headquarters.

  • THIS IS MY ALL TIME FAVORTIE MUSIC VIDEO...MIKE NESMITH..MMM..im only 19 and i absolutly love them i wish i was alive when they were hott!!!! =D xo LOVE YOU MONKEES!!!

  • not this one but some others i hadn't heard in 40 years thanks for youtube

  • The Charles Manson audition is a rumor that was proven false. Check it out. It was on the history channel.

  • OMG mike is so hawt!

  • Michael and Peter went into the Monkees

    having been musicians beforehand...Davy

was a jockey and Mickey and actor....but

we all most had Charles Manson in the band....thankfully the producers got the right four men to play the Monkees...great song, G-8 video....

  • Charles Manson was in jail. He didn't get out until after the first episode premiered.

  • I watched a Monkees documentory and that's where I got the info....I had never heard that before until I watched this special...they also said that Crosby from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young also tried out for it....Manson was in and out of prison multiple times...so I don't know, I just remember the Monkees special and some producer said it...

  • no, no, it was Steven Stills from Crosby, Stills and Nash who auditioned. He and Peter Tork were room mates at the time, and Steven suggested that Peter should try it. The weird thing is that Steven Stills and Peter Tork bore an uncanny resemblance to each other. Try to find pics of them when they were both young; it's really cool.

  • oops! my bad...I knew it was one of them, and I do like them....I just couldn't remember which CSN & Y member tried out for the Monkees....well pretty sure it wasn't Young...same bio-doc I saw years ago.

  • Oh Davy! my sister and I were huge monkee fans in the late 80's I of course still am. I remember my dad saying " that davy guy has no talent and the only one with the real talet was Mike"

  • Thanks for posting! Love this! Why are all the Monkees videos disappearing? Big meanies taking them off and ruining are fun!

  • Peter was just diagnosed with a rare form of head and neck cancer.. his doctors told him it is treatable and he should be ok..

  • I thought it was tongue cancer and that he is fine.

  • You are right, it is tongue cancer

  • It is tongue cancer

  • I stand corrected.. the guy on late night radio had it wrong. Sorry!!!

  • sounds different than the lp version.

  • I've got the hots for Mike 40 years too late.

  • I sent off to their fan club asking where I could get a double breasted Monkee shirt. No reply, WAH!

  • this is really just an awsome song , mikes eyes are so deep , davys are completely amazing

  • Pete is so adorable in this :D

  • "And you just may be the one"

  • Look at the face that Davy is making at Mike at the very end starting at 1 min 38 seconds!!!

He through off Mike, look at Mike's face!!!

    Priceless!!!

  • I only noticed that about the 3rd time I saw this episode and almost spat out my food! Too funny.

  • Great observation! I wonder how many more of these kind of subtle Monkee moments are out there.

  • and i love petes little shake

  • MIKE!!! my baby! my darling! my angel-love! eeeeee!!! *swoon* ...*melt into puddle on floor*

  • ok is the song called you may just be the one or you just may be the one?

  • Mike was just as googd(if not better) a writer than any of the "professionals" who supplied songs for the group. This song is a classic.

  • Fab song and clip

  • Knuckle head !!!

  • I love how Peter is trying to make Davy uncomfortable.

  • This is a great song! Mike wrote some of the best monkees songs. This version is on the monkees missing links vol 2 album.

  • Love the bass line in this song. Great pop music here.

  • Nothing makes me happier than seeing Peter gettin' down!!

  • Love the way Peter moves! He's still got it too! And he still wears his belt buckle like that..got to love him! I love Mike's voice too..

  • Yes. This is a bit different from the album version.

  • lol, I love how Peter is so into it!

  • this song is the best!

  • I love Davy @ 1:41, then Mike does a double take! HAHAHA!!! =P

  • exactly that's what I said!!! soooo funny!!!

  • One of the many Mike Nesmith compositons that Don Kirshner was reluctant to let the Monkees do.

  • one of my fave monkees songs!!! and mike is singing *swoons*

  • My favourite monkee's song, good quality video, thanks for posting

  • Mickey Dolenz did a great top vocal on this too.

  • i love this song

  • One of their best songs, I think. -^.^- It's so gorgeous and unique...

  • David and Peter sure are having a good time on this take. On the show you can usually tell when Jones is laughing for real by his red face.

  • You can see there is a genuine good time here. Davie and Peter really look like they were having a ton of fun here.

  • At the end you can see Davy look over at Mike and make faces, trying to make Mike crack up - pretty funny!

  • I love love love when Pete is move

  • My best friends favorite song! I like this one a lil better than the one on Headquarters. All due respect to the Monkees [since they played on that version].

  • Ive said it before, these guys really look like they enjoyed this particular take. The smiles look so genuine on Davy andf Peter. And a great tune. Time to listen to Papa Gene blues.

  • i agree it looks like Davy can't stop himself from laughing....even looks over at Mickey at one point...but you can tell he is still laughing....

  • Does anyone notice that Peter is cracking Davy up to no end with his goosenecking throughout the song.

Davy even has to turn around (:34-:37)

  • Peter's not "goosenecking". He has to share the mike with Davy. It looks to me Davy's getting annoyed about it.

  • I love this song! It's one of my favorite Mike Nesmith's songs. He's actually my favorite one in the group. . .

  • Oh Nimbus!

  • I thought he was saying nimbus too, until my daughter said it was all men must. Makes better sence.

  • Yes, but I love how it sounds like "Oh, Nimbus"

  • For a long time, I thought Nesmith was writing about a talk with some mythical/philisophical figure about love.

  • Tork Tork Tork Tork Tork!!!!

  • Why are Mike's songs alway so short?

  • One of the reasons why Mike's songs and all the others were kinda short was so they could fit 2, possibly 3 songs into a 30 minute show.

  • Hmm that is probably true.

  • Hey, that's more Mike to love, right? : D

  • Hey true! Never thought of it like that before. Is Mike your favorite Monkee?

  • I really truly do love them all with all my heart; but given the fact that I have my own wool hat, I think that says something. : P

  • Really?! Does it look like Mike's?

  • Yes it does!! : D The green's kinda dark, but who's keeping track, right? My friends mom knits and I wrote her the sappiest little note to make me one...and she did. So I'd say knitting is the way to go for a Nesmith hat. : D

  • ha ha because remember, "it's not needed, it's knitted!" *laughs*

That is so cool. Does it even have the little buttons on it?

  • No, it's just the plain green one. But I told her if she ever is left with absolutely nothing to knit, she could make the one with the buttons and the blue one. Cause having your own entire wool hat collection is just TOO COOL. : D

  • Dude. You would be the envy of all the monkee fans!

I need to find someone to knit me a wool hat now...your friend ought to go in buisness, selling mike hats for monkee fans!

  • Actually I think her mom is knitting scarves for the high school. : P I'll let her know she could start her own business...that would be SO cool. Plus she doesn't want any money from me, so I get all the free "prototype" hats. So I'm all for that idea. : D

  • Dude you would definitely benefit from this idea! And WE would all benefit because we'd have kicky little Mike hats to wear!

  • Key: Lucky! I was thinking of crocheting Woolhats for me and my friend Rebecca, who I always call Mike, because I can't come close to knitting. But none the less, I envy you!

  • I love the look in Mike's eyes when he's singing...so intense and sexy

  • He has such pretty eyes, but needed to smile more. He was always so serious looking

  • You are right! He had a beautiful smile too

  • Great song, my favourite by the Monkees.

  • I LOVE this! Brings back sooo many memories. I totally loved Mike then. Please don't delete. Thanks.

  • One of my favorite Nez songs and this is an awesome performance of it!

  • They yreally look like they were having fun even though they were lip syncing. One of my favorites.

  • Just Beautiful! I hope this dosent get deleted in sept as I would be crushed!

  • Just a great song. Thanks!

  • Thanks for posting! This song is one of my favs and has been ever since I saw this episode!

  • This song rocks and i think micheal nesmith song very good like micky dolenz peter tork and davy jones

  • This might be my life's theme song.

  • I love this song!!!

  • YES! This was my first favorite Monkee song! *sigh* Mike's voice...<3!!

  • Hey check out my video its called you just may be the one tribute
